These always trigger a certain subset of people. If you want a real head scratcher I did recently see that Discovery Princess named four God Parents. Randy Fenoli, Chef Alex Guarnaschelli, Adam Savage and Page Turner Christen. I think they sent out a mass email to talent agencies and took anyone that would agree to being named.

Celebrity Reflection has four godmothers, all employees with a connection to Breast Cancer.

Not a frequent cruiser.  I expect they've done this for a long time?  Just first time I'm reading about it.

Every Celebrity ship has a godmother, usually a press release when they announce and then more publicity at Christening.

Perhaps the most famous godmother of a Celebrity Ship is Moustafa Youseff, Nobel Peace prize winner.

  3. Just received Email from Royal that Simone Biles has been named godmother of Celebrity Beyound.  Just the first paragraph of the email.

MIAMI, May 10, 2022 /PRNewswire/ -- Celebrity Cruises announced today that Simone Biles, 19-time World Champion and seven-time Olympic Medalist, will add another very special title to her decorated career – godmother for Celebrity BeyondSM, the industry's most highly anticipated ship of the year that recently debuted in Europe.

  4. Blu is your assigned restaurant and tips are included. The tips that would have gone to servers in the MDR go to the Blu services. This has been policy since Blu was begun. There is no need to tip additional unless you wish to since you have already tipped them.

    Avoid JfK, la Guardia..

Too far away from the port,   few transp options or very costly, if you find one, ..awful traffic!

Maybe fly ino Newark  a day ahead and book a motel close to port with a shuttle service,.

I grew up and was LEO in that area, not many hotels near the port so getting one near the airport is wise. Most of the big chains are there, do not dismiss something because it has an Elizabeth address, city lines run through the area.

On the East coast departures board there is a thread called Port Liberty 911. Good info.

We were on this cruise August of 2016 and did see a smartly dressed gentlemen in full Bermudian attire, but that was during the day.  I assumed he was a local that was on board as an "ambassador" to represent his country.  (It was a port day that he was on board)

As for the MDR, let me ask, would a Scotsman be turned away if he showed in full kilt attire?  Of course not, so why should or would someone with the full Bermudian attire?

Kilts have always been accepted, seen many on cruise especially years ago when things were more formal.

I reserved two specialty restaurants for my Beyond cruise in February 2023 just now, and noticed that Celebrity added gratuity on top of the dining charges. This is different than when we sailed on Apex this past February. Does anyone know when this change was made? I am happy to pay gratuities for the awesome service they provide, I just was used to the gratuities being included in the restaurant charges.

    That’s new and different

Have you ever seen anyone with the classic Bermuda shorts, long socks and a blazer turned away? It is not just long socks with the shorts, the dress is business attire and is worn with a jacket. Been to Bermuda many times and have seen that attire worn in Hamilton by some Bermuda business men. I never saw anyone on over 15 cruises to Bermuda in the MDR with that attire but perhaps no one had the nerve. A Bermudian on a cruise might.

Cant say I have seen anybody dressed as classic Bermudian denied entry but also don’t remember don’t remember seeing any on ship.

  10. Smithsonian Channel on 4/23 is running a series of their Might Cruise Ships shows. They are showing the Solstice episode at 6:00P.M. Est.  I have Direct TV, it is channel 570. This is a 2014 show and depicts Solstice’s first ever sailing in Australia.  We were on the Solstice shortly before in Alaska.  Good Show, by the way, look out for Tom Brady

Could you please post a list of allowed topics?

    I’ll be waiting.  🙂

I have one from years ago that will still drive people crazy, used to be very popular but still relevant. You new guys have probably never heard this one.

I looked at it in another way altogether. Usually they wouldn't open the casino and shops until after 9pm. By that time everything is closed on land. There is no land side entertainment to speak of.  So, I thought it likely that the shops did not want the ship siphoning off their revenue during the day, but the ships wanted to given passengers something to do while in port overnight.

Always thought that also but found out the real reason the casinos were closed all those years was for religious reasons. Bermuda is a very religious country but going back a few years they were finally able to pass legislation allowing it. The time they open is probably for your concerns. I would be surprised they would be open 24/7 since most of the stores on the island are duplicated at Kings wharf.
