I remember the days when over 125 people would form a circle around 4 people participating in the "bean bag challenge". I even commented on how the people were almost desperate for onboard entertainment. At least now the passengers have ratcheted up the entertainment quality with rubber duck hunts.
I've sailed Oasis out of Cape Liberty 5 times over the past 3 Septembers and Octobers, and if there were 7 or 8 1:00 games, they had 6 on at Playmakers, and would show ALL late Sunday afternoon games each sailing. If you want to watch the most NFL/College football while sailing, sail on n RCI ship with a Playmakers onboard.
Anthem only has the beer bar in the esplanade with 2 TVs. If you're on an RCL ship with a Playmakers included, you'll get to see pretty much all NFL games/
NCL has been sailing year-round out of NYC for years......often times with 2 different ships and doing well. And RCL sails out of Bayonne year-round also. Doesn't appear those home ports are seasonal for them.
Speaking of which....John Heald just posted of Carnival's dedication to showing both NFL and college football (all ESPN games and Sunday ticket). This week is the opening week in NCAAF. Can you post if they're showing them on your sailing? I'm on Pride in Sept and would like to belly up for some foots. TIA
Then add in their Diamond-plus 5/day valued at $70/day. They'd have to swig down $171/day EACH just to break even. Good luck with that. (Not to mention the complimentary casino drinks they'd get)
I would say that, at over $1,200 p/p for an interior for a 3-night sailing, the booze cruisers would rather opt for cheaper ships. Since a large number of gamblers received comped/cheaper rates for Utopia in particular, the casinos will be mobbed.
As Carnival is basically handing out free cruises to bribe anyone who ventures into the casino. You're the one here who posts the most lamentations about the casino offers. Eats into your investments.
You'll be the only ship in port, but the parking lot will be full. You'll have to wait in idle after entering until the disembarking passengers from the previous sailing drive off.
They honored it in Playmakers on Oasis in Oct 2022 (came out to $5/pitcher). I was on the Oasis again, in Oct 2023, and they WOULDN'T allow it. Different bar manager I guess.
I'm looking at the Odyssey in December. Would one of the 2-top tables along the windows facing the main bar be the best spot for watching ALL the games? And, are the bathrooms as far from Playmakers as the deck plans indicate?
