  1. I have run into the same crew members across different ships. They did remember me. If you are kind to people and tip generously they do remember you.Of course I tend to sail the same ships over and over so that helps too.
  2. I had a similar type of experience on a RCCL cruise. I was in an owner's suite similar to the Haven suites. Overflowing toilet, no cold water, disappearing item in the mini bar, rude staff. I am not saying don't do anything about it I am just saying I did nothing. Probably should have. To answer your question...if you go to the meet and greet they give you a card with all the officer's phone numbers. If you had that card you could have called the head of housekeeping.
  3. There was a time in the late 50's early 60's that it was very common to go to the store and use $2 bills. I remember my father keeping a few in his wallet. However now not so common.
  4. I for one feel it is a disjointed experience sitting in a room of people not dressed similarly. Sequined gowns sitting next to someone in gym shorts. But that's what I signed up for so I am OK with it.
  5. The last time I cruised was in Dec. of 2019 right before the shutdown.NCL really didn't have much of a dress code. When we cruise I just adjust where I am sitting if within my eyesight there is something really un appetizing to look at. LOL Like someone using a steak knife as a toothpick or really hideous looking feet that the person decides to take their sandals off and cross their legs so they are more or less at table top level.
  6. Not strict. Parents are left to decide. But...I certainly wouldn't have taken my pre-teens to see Rock of Ages or a very adult themed comedy show on one of my last cruises. Just my choice.
  7. 1500 kids....so about half the ship. We have 5 adults and 2 children sailing.
  8. Has anyone taken a cruise out of NY during President's week? What is the demographic? I am assuming mostly families. That's OK with me since we will be a multi generational family group.
  9. Update:The single person who is going with us opted for a studio cabin.
  10. We are going on a cruise and one of our family members is single. We thought it would be nice if they were in the Haven with us but our cabin is full. They are looking at getting a Haven penthouse suite on deck 14 of the Getawayfor one so we can all eat together etc. Has anyone done this and is it worth the single supplement?
  11. I would never ask a friend to do this for me as it would put them in the position of basically stealing something for me.
  12. We had to cancel one onboard on one of our cruises (within the cancellation window). They then offered it to whoever wanted it. It was at the excursion desk and people just had to come up and ask. So if you are still wanting one check onboard during the cruise there might be one available.
  13. All I know is that I am traveling in a group and it is messing with our restaurant reservations due to port changes. No big deal we'll survive.
  14. We had a choice of flights leaving MIA after getting off the Enclore of 11:30a.m. or 1 p.m. We chose 1 p.m. We got to the airport by 9:30 a.m. !! However we were in the Haven and took our bags with us and got a taxi. I think 11:30 am is a popular choice but then again nothing is guaranteed. Out of all the ships we have been on we are almost always at the port of Miami by 6 a.m. with announcements to disembark 1-2 hours later (the earliest being 7:15 a.m.)
  15. I don't really know but one thing for sure is make sure you logout after every session. We made that mistake and poof our minutes were gone they next time we went to use them. They did restore some of them but was told it was a one time courtesy.
  16. We took a tour in Cartegena that involved riding in a bus to certain sites. There was a lavatory on board but it was locked and a sign on the door saying it couldn't be used(not out of order just that don't use it) That said the tour guide did find a bathroom for me and walked me there and back so I wouldn't have a problem.
  17. We have been to Harvest Caye twice and had food at our cabana delivered from the Landshark. For one diet coke two cocktails and two hamburgers with fries (plus tip) it came out to about $75. This was before the pandemic so it might have gone up.
  18. Read a cabin review for the cabin you are picking. Ours shook so badly we had trouble sleeping. And it wasn't because of ocean conditions.
  19. For us LGA especially since the renovations are basically done is the easiest and fastest airport for cruising out of Manhattan. I do however recommend flying into EWR if sailing from Bayonne. That was also a super easy trip.
  20. The buffet has little peanut butter packets at breakfast and they have saltine packets at lunch near the soup. The first couple of days I bring some of these back to my cabin to have a light breakfast each morning to try not overdoing the food. One time I ran out so I went to the Horizon lounge in the morning and found almond pastries. Took four of them. Probably a total of 1,000 calories and it was only 8 a.m. Never doing that again!! Going to make sure I don't run out of peanut butter and saltines.
  21. Arrange with any travel companions what section to meet after getting food. I have spent 20 minutes looking for people....now we pick a section to meet at. As for food the carving station is always a good choice. If you are lucky enough to see their almond danish grab one (or two).
  22. Let's just say that most people act like everyone in the elevator, on shared excursions, sitting next to you in the theatre, in the pool or hot tub, etc. act like they are your long lost relative. Be prepared for this. Twice I came across people who did not want this type of interaction and they literally got a deer in the headlights look as if they didn't realize cruises on NCL were social. I try to be sensitive to people who just want to be alone but not everyone is tuned in to that especially after a few drinks at the bar. You will have no trouble making friends. Edited to add that I have met more than one person who is taking a cruise after the passing of a loved one to try to recover from the grief. One man slept every day on one of the loungers on the pool deck while his wife swam. I talked at length with her. He was not interested in being social.
  23. Since I used to live in NY and have seen all the "sights" we just stay at the LGA Marriott then take a cab to the cruise terminal in the morning. It is easy to get the shuttle from the terminal building to the hotel and it is free. Then we just have one cab ride to pay for the next morning.
  24. My husband and I like the Jewell class ships and have a favorite cabin. If we know we are going to want to cruise a certain ship and itinerary as soon as it posts we book it. There have been times that we had to cancel for unexpected things that have come up but most of the time we are happy we booked way ahead. That said we only have two or three booked ahead at a time due to finances.
  25. Before covid it was easy to go on two cruises a year and also fund the grandchildren's college fund. Now we do one cruise a year and still fund their college fund. It's all about choices. Inflation.
