HOLLAND AMERICA followed closely by ROYAL CARIBBEAN
  1. I have been of 4 longer cruises where I was at the same dining room server's station. That is until he was promoted to the Pinnacle Dining Room. He has done an outstanding service and was well appreciated by the cruisers whom he served so well. It now appears that he is being terminated for smoking in the cabin though he assures me that he avoided smoking in the cabin though his cabin mate did. I did encourage him often to give up smoking and I know that he was making efforts to stop smoking. My question is, I would like to aid him in his effort to keep his employment because he is so great at his work. I do understand and greatly approve of the no smoking policies of HOLLAND AMERICA but I am hoping that they might perhaps put him on probation and allow him to prove again his loyalty to HAL. Does anyone have an idea to whom I should address a recommendation?
  2. As a 4 star Mariner, I Say, Book HAL again and again. If you don't like a certain ship, book one that you do like.
  3. I so wanted to do this cruise especially since I have a dear friend and fellow cruiser who is on for the entire voyage 3 Jan- 6 May. But my cruises have already put me in debt and the Prinsendam is way to expensive.
  4. I'm sorry Lew, I didn't mean to "yell". I just hit the caps lock without meaning to. Generally when I do that I rewrite whatever it is. This time I guess I was too lazy.

  6. AMERICAN AIRLINES KEEPS A RECORD OF MY PASSPORT. I HAVE RARELY, IF EVER, HAD TO resubmit the information.
  7. This is what I found on searching the terms: On Request - The itinerary has been purchased but involves segments operated by airline and is awaiting confirmation from that airline, which may require hours or even days. The Print button will print the Reservation Details webpage. Ticket Pending (previously Purchased) - The itinerary has been purchased and is awaiting ticketing, which usually requires no more than 1-2 hours. The Print button will print the Reservation Details webpage. (Prior to 2012, the Print button opened a popup window with a formatted summary of reservation details.) I would appreciate any remarks about this as I have both of them on my AA information in regard to my tickets. I do have a record locator . My arrangements were made by Holland America.
  8. Does anyone have experience of the SI cabins on the Brilliance
  9. I have been able to book stateroom 4583 on Royal Caribbean, but the next day there were no more staterooms available in that category.:p

  11. Has anyone heard of persons that have recently visited Tenerife and have come down with the Norwalk virus. I was recently on the Voyager of the Seas that was detoured to Tenerife. I did hear two persons on the ship discussing the fact that they thought they had the disease.
  12. :DThe cost ($2450) of the Mumbai one day excursion to Agra can be explained. I found the exact description of the excursion on an "Abercrombie and Kent" site and realized that Holland America was working with them for this excursion. If you know anything about this company you know that they are the top of the line and their trips are always exhorbitantly priced. Holland America knows that they can sell out this excursion because there are sufficient passengers on the world cruise that are able and willing to pay that price.
  13. :DI am with you %100. I always choose Holland America. However, being a retired High School teacher and a single cruiser, money is of prime importance. I did book a cruise on the Amsterdam 2010 Cape Town to Singapore segment. I already this year took the Rotterdam segment from Dubai to Cape Town so I booked this cruise soley because I wanted to visit Agra and the Taj Mahal. However, to my dismay, the ships excursion from Mumbai costs $2450 for 15 hours, a days excursion. Having all but depleted my bank account to pay for this cruise, there was no way I could afford the excursion for which I had booked this cruise. I therefore, substituted a Panama Canal cruise and I will take an escorted land tour of the Golden Triangle in 2011. That is, if I am still around because I will then be 85 years of age. Yes, I am one of Holland America's senior citizens!:p
  14. I have been very surprised to find that Holland America has been completely ignored here. I have cruised on Royal Caribbean and Princess and found them quite wonderful. However, I will be enjoying my 13th cruise with Holland America on the Cape Town-Singapore segment of the 2010 world cruise. I did buy a "fancy" cocktail dress for an Egyptian cruise which I kept for formal nights on all subsequent cruises. The last few years I no longer pack that cocktail dress as I no longer go to the dining room on formal nights. Holland America now has open seating in the lower section of the dining room. So you do have other choices than the Lido or cabin dining. I have never felt that I was looked down upon because I went about on my way about the ship in less formal attire on formal nights. I believe that Holland America has just the right balance so that almost anyone can enjoy themselves without feeling uncomfortable. By the way, I am a great fan of the Lido especially for dinner as it is more formal than breakfast or lunch but still a more casual formality. I also get to know the servers and enjoy my conversations with them. Perhaps some of you will consider giving Holland America a try. The young lady who likes formal nights and seeing her husband in a Tux would have the best of all worlds on HAL because her husband could be as informal as he wants and she could also enjoy many enjoyable formal moments.
