Price drop before final payment with Club Orange Paid
*Miss G* replied to Suncitycruiser1925's topic in Holland America Line
It will take me a bit of research to find that but I am pretty sure the booking number remained the same. I will get back. One thing she did say was that POLAR retains the original category information and that they calculate from that. -

I am not so sure of that^^. On one cruise, I had booked a veranda. A few weeks later, we changed our minds and asked our PCC to book us into a Vista instead. When I took a look at the Mariner credits, following the cruise, I noticed that we didn’t get the double credits for booking a suite. It was a bit of a fight with the Mariner Society to have them applied. She said that our original booking showed us in a Verandah so we weren’t eligible because we’d gone for an upgrade. We had not. We had paid the advertised rate to change our room long before we had received an upgrade offer or reached final payment. -
I should have waited longer to answer but I was just so excited! I changed my clue because I thought I’d given it away! I should have left it there so you knew which part of the world you should be looking in.

Oh right! I totally forgot about those!

I didn’t even know OV’s had an obstructed view! I learn something new everyday.

Choosing a later embarkation due to no mariner’s lunch?

Close, but no cigar!

Whether policy, or not, if a passenger has no sense of / refuses to have a sense of decorum, they are not going to be able to teach it to them in two minutes at a podium with multitudes of passengers within proximity. There is nothing to be gained by giving rise to a scene. I would ask them to step aside while I located an “appropriate” table.

Note that I did say “added” security feature. -

I wonder if Boston just maintains a heightened alert for their ports? Logan Airport has had DHS/airport police openly carrying long guns since 9/11. (Two of the four terrorist planes originated from Boston.) I am thinking that the emptying of water may just be an added security procedure for that port. HAL’s plastic water bottle policy is just a bonus. -
If it helps at all, that is a fog bank in the background. Here we are, just two minutes later, heading straight into it. I would hate to be those fishermen!

We sat in that bay for about 4 hours, one day, as the marine conditions weren’t conducive to entering the outer harbour. The Captain did make a couple of valiant attempts to get through the mouth but had to abandon them. I was disappointed because I love Victoria but I love not crashing into sea walls more. lol

Welcome to Cruise Critic! I would put it back on HAL to absorb the cost since they are the ones who took responsibility for packing your belongings.

We did a day car rental and there was lots of parking at Peggy’s Cove. When we got there, all the tour busses were just leaving so there was hardly anyone there. It was nice not to have crowds but it was certainly worth going even if going by bus. So scenic and beautiful. Have fun! -
Just a point of clarification… there is a bottle of sparkling wine (it’s horrible) in your room on embarkation day. (And water.) You can trade the wine in at the Concierge Lounge if you’d prefer something else. There will be an invitation to the Neptune Lounge champagne get-together on embarkation day. It’s much more drinkable than the one in your room. We loved having the separate water closet in our SA!

Another shout-out for James Hook & Co! It is a very popular place and has delicious lobster rolls! @Homala, if your trip includes a visit to Peggy’s Cove, this food truck has the best lobster rolls I have had in my life! And the young couple who run the lobster truck are the sweetest people ever! They recommended the best place for fries and they were right! We saw they made funnel cakes so had to give that a try too. Luckily we shared everything because that was a lot of food!! (Sorry if I have turned this into a lobster roll/food thread. 🫢) -

It all depends on the ship. If pinnacle-class, there are many options, including the Grand Dutch Cafe. The MDR is an option, if they are open, but I don’t really focus on getting onboard just for that. I have a leisurely breakfast at the hotel and leave for the port after checkout. For our Boston departure we left the hotel at noon and breezed through check-in and straight onto the ship. I think everyone else was onboard because the terminal was empty. Have a lovely time! -
Just a note, so others don’t think it’s a given that HAL is generous with their rounding up. I have never received generous mariner credits on any of my sailings. I’ve even had to fight for some which weren’t given. I used to be jealous when people stated they’d received all these extra credits. Now I’m just derisive. 😜

I can’t ever remember feeling “crowded” on a Holland America ship, including the Nieuw Statendam. (On the Sky Princess… YES. Big time.) I guess if you visit the Lido Market during rush hour, that might feel crowded. I like to avoid rush hour, so that might be why I don’t notice the crowds.

Holy smokes! I can’t believe how fast they’re processing! Congrats!
