  1. Which city appeals most to your interests? Since you've been to Rome and Athens you're aware of the distance to their cruiseports. The issue with Venice is that only small ships are allowed, so you would probably depart from Trieste or Ravenna which are 2 - 21/2 hrs away.
  2. OP clarified that he's looking for a transfer between Venice and Trieste.
  3. I took the train to Trieste then used Flixbus back to Venice Airport. Each took a bit over 2 hrs and cost 15-20E, Many people use the cruiseline's transfer for 65E. The only private transfer I've seen on this forum is VQTravels, 440 E to Venice from Ravenna. They do Trieste as well.
  4. Since you don't specify I assume you're talking about a transfer between Venice airport and Venice cruiseport. This is only a 20 minute drive. A cab will cost 35-40E
  5. Yikes is right ! Here's the schedule from the cable car web site. Cable Car Timetable (scc.gr) For the month of Dec it runs 7:30am - 9am, then 3p - 4pm, BUT, it will run 9am - 3pm if maintenance progress allows. So, there's hope! Good luck !
  6. This is the thread I was thinking about. Go Genova was recommended. They have scheduled tours so might be willing to work with you as a private tour. Shore Excursions Genoa Italy - Italy Ports - Cruise Critic Community
  7. a similar question was asked/answered earlier this summer. DIY and excursion info was provided. You'll find the thread if you do a search on the word GENOA . Limit your search to this forum.
  8. The Tuscany Bus trip will only give you 4-5 hrs in Florence, but keep in mind that the historical area of Florence is pretty small. ie it's only a 15 minute walk from the Duomo to the Ponte Vecchio and 20 minutes up the hill to Piazza Michaelangelo from Ponte Vecchio. Another thought ... try the ItalyTourShare web site. With this company you indicate which date your ship is in port, pick a tour, and then others can sign up. Saves you the hassle of trying to find other people from your rollcall. But if ItalyTours cancelled for lack of participation, it doesn't bode well for ItalyTourShare either,
  9. I think cruisemom is referring to TuscanyBus. Tuscany Bus - Low cost buses from the cruise terminal of Livorno to Pisa, Florence, Lucca and Livorno
  10. The company name and web site are on the previous page. The company appears to be a middleman selling tours (similar to Viator ) so it's doubtful that they are located in Santorini.
  11. The shuttle from the ship to train station was new this year so that is causing some confusion. Since you're already making this trip to BOARD the ship, the return trip will be more apparent. And keep in mind that Civi station isn't huge. Scope it out when you arrive so that you're more comfortable with the layout for the next trip. Maybe ask the ticket counter person what platform is typically used for the 9:16 train to Termini. Trenitalia is assuming you want the 8:50 shuttle to catch the 9:16 train to Termini; which only leaves you 11 minutes to find and get to the platform. If that makes you nervous catch the 8:20 shuttle instead. The driver just wants to see that you've paid for the shuttle; they don't care about the time. There is only one line for the shuttle.
  12. Which Rome station are you going to? Yes, there is a shuttle that goes directly from your ship to the Civi Station. This shuttle costs 6E and can be purchased online with the train ticket or you can pay the shuttle driver in cash. Otherwise you can take the free Port Shuttle to the port entrance then catch the city bus to Civi Station. OR, take the free Port Shuttle to th port entrance then walk to Civi Station; it's only 1 mile so 15-20 minutes.
  13. For a seamless transfer from the ship to train station, book your ticket from Civitavecchia Porto to whichever station in Rome. Doing so, your ticket will INCLUDE the shuttle bus from the pier directly to the station. A Frecci train is definitely the way to go.
  14. There's also the X80 bus that runs from the port to Acropolis, May - Oct, I looked at it last yr when I considered a cruise that stopped in Athens, but I took a different cruise. But it was only 4E for the day pass and IIRC it was 20-30 minute ride. X80 Piraeus – Acropolis – Syntagma Express Bus Line – OASA
  15. Info from the Piraeus Port. Piraeus Taxi | Online Booking I don't know if it's current/acurate but it gives you a ballpark to work with.
  16. It's a pretty loose little business. They have a c few large signs to advertise their business and they have a couple of guys handing out fliers along the cable car line, but nothing provides a phone number or business name. So it's hard to know if they'll be operational on your port day, and no way to find out. If there are several ships in port that day, you have a better chance than if your ship is the one and only. OTOH, if your ship is the one and only, the cable car won't be a bottleneck. Good luck !
  17. When the Venice Cruise Terminal was handling all the cruiseships, taxis were there in abundance. Not sure if that's the case anymore. But if you need to call a cab here's the info:. Taxi Venice and Mestre: Cooperativa Radiotaxi in Venice, the main authorized taxis (radiotaxivenezia.com) It's a 20 minute ride to the airport, fixed fare of 45E You should be at the airport 3 hrs prior to departure. If your flight is a nonstop to the US, watch for those overhead signs.
  18. We were on the EPIC in Sept 2019. Our itinerary didn't include Greek Isles but it was a great itinerary and great cruise. I talked my brother and SIL into joining us; their first cruise. We all had a great time, LOVED the Epic and everything about it ; great food, entertainment, ports. We even liked the bathroom set up. It made getting ready in the mornings so much easier and we needed every minute given the busy itinerary. The 4 of us had zero complaints. There's a place near the top of this page where you can pull up past threads on a specific ship. It says, " SEE POSTS ABOUT ". Select Epic. There's a LIVE report from the Epic going on right now, but it's not very informative. Just a lot of fan-girl comments. Maybe the next sailing will have a LIVE report and will provide helpful information. The 'different' bathroom set up seems to bother a lot of people. As I said, we liked the setup. If I was sharing the cabin with someone I didn't know well, I'd feel differently but I was with my cousin who I travel with frequently. Good luck with your research ! p.s. as you look at other ships and other itineraries, be very mindful of port times. Look for long port times so you have time to see and do everything you have planned.
  19. I believe if you make your destination CIVITAVECCHIA PORTO, your ticket will also a include the bus from the Civi Train Station to the pier. It might be an extra $5 or so. When we met our ship in Trieste we took the FrecciaRossa train and booked Business Class. We then chose seats that were near the luggage storage area which was next to the door. There may have been 6 people in our carriage so no worries there.
  20. There is a similar question and response about 10 threads down on this page. Actually you'll find that this question is asked and answered on just about every page 😄, so you won;t have to do much research to find several options; private transfer and shared rides..
  21. You might want to spend some time on the Alaska Ports of Call forum. Look at past and current trip reports to get a feel for the various itineraries and options. Alaska Cruises Q&A: Find Tips & Recommendations - Cruise Critic Message Board Forums An 11 day trip is only 3 days on land so easy enough to plan your own, via rental car, train or bus. Alaska is very easy to get around DIY ... there are few hwys and they're only 2 lanes. I've gone several times by rental car and motorhome. Even as a female senior with zero sense of direction, I survived all my 2 week adventures! The company that runs the major busline in Alaska also organizes land packages using the bus, or train or a combination. They might offer more flexibility than the cruiseline. 22. Cruiseline excursions seem very expensive when you compare the same itinerary done as a DIY. In Livorno the cruiseline offered 'Florence on your own" which was essentially a bus ride to Florence and it was $100 compared to our 10E train ticket. Granted we had to get ourselves to and from the train stations at each end, but easily done. Many people don't want to be bothered with researching the town, sights to see, transportation options, admission tickets, etc. And they're willing to pay for that convenience. I prefer DIY.... I go where I want to go, see what I want to see, and move at my own pace. Plus its cheaper. And I really enjoy the research. The only place I've used a tour and it was private tour, was for the Amalfi Coast from Naples. I knew a car would be a better option for negotiating the coastal roads, plus I had a very specific itinerary to follow for the day. We could have found people from our Roll Call to share the cost, but it was nice just being the 4 of us. There are circumstances where a ships tour is the best option. ie Santorini is a cluster, so a ships excursion is a way to avoid the 2-3 wait for a cable car up the cliff. Or sometimes a ships excursion will give you priority entrance to a particular sight.
  23. There are several companies listed in this thread. 300-400Euros. Use the SEARCH feature above to find similar threads. Search on 'trieste' and limit the search to 'this forum'. Disembarkation in Trieste - transportation to Venice hotel - Italy Ports - Cruise Critic Community am
  24. Are you doing NCL excursions at each port? and NCL shuttles to get from the port to town?
  25. If you want feedback on these excursions you should include a link to the description of each tour. And if it's a cruiseline excursion, cross post to your cruiseline's forum to increase the number of responses.
