  1. Many thanks Dai, have a great time.  If you hear, on the ship grapevine, that all the rubbish I have been given is "being considered" in view of "no more gratuities" that comes in in May,   perhaps you would be kind enough to advise, as we dont go till July. Bon Voyage! Fastnloose xx

Then something has changed in the last 2 months since we ordered room service and MDR food to have in our suite via the butler on most days in January and no charges were made and our butler was very clear that this was the way to do it.

We booked this cruise on Saturday after reading all the bumph in the brochure and FAQs.

It was only when I asked the booking agent after we had booked if room service was still available complimentary (it was last year)together with another couple of questions that  she said she would check with P & O on Monday. After reading Docco's reply, and having waited hours for a response from the agent, I called P & O myself.  They confirmed that room service is chargeable regardless of cabin grade, and also added that they no longer service the rooms twice daily.  If we need extra towels for the evening we must request them from the morning steward!!  I do feel shafted by P & O, but perhaps someone on board at the moment might be able to clarify things..?  Many thanks for all who took the time to reply, and I will post the current situation when we are onboard in July

Thanks. We're usually on Ventura or Azura - never bothered too much with the room service because we're well satisfied with the MDR and Epicurean, but is the entire room service menu available free of charge if you fancy a snack instead of lunch?

I have just spoken to P and O who advise me that regardless of whether you are in a suite, ROOM SERVICE is chargeable, even if you order through your butler. Main lunch and dinner can be taken in the suite.  Also, rooms will only be serviced once daily so no bathroom cleaning or fresh towels in the evening. More cost cutting by P & O.

Does anyone know if you can pay for the train with a card? Or will we need NOK.

A review wouldo be good if anyone has been on it.

I cannot be 100% certain, but think we paid by card.  Most things like hoho bus, etc take cards.  I seem to remember we went with cash, but as others paid by card we also did that.  As for a review, I would say its an excellent little trip.  It stops at least once by a fast-running water-over-rocks (sorry cant think of another description) and also stops back in Olden if you wish to get off there, and perhaps walk back to the stave church.  We will do it again in July as we enjoyed it. We do, by tthe way, take a small amount of NOKs.  Enjoy!

  5. Hi,  Can anyone give me the current breakdown on daily auto-gratuities, and can you increase the amounts for individuals in auto-grats, rather than just  adding extra to be divided up? I have been told that extra tips paid in cash to individual members of staff have to be handed in to a central "pool"

I suspect he just does not know anything about it. You do not pay anything for room service in a suite. Anyway your Butler can provide far more than what is on the room service menu. Ie anything from the MDR lunch or dinner menu.

Many thanks daiB. It never ceases to amaze me how misinformed some cruise agents can be.  I   expect if I asked another agent I would get a different response. Might try that ................

Yes if you get room service. No if you get it through your Butler. On Oceana where there is only one Butler and you ask when he is on a break it is in some way removed.

Thank you daiB.  So am I getting this right.  I need to order room service via butler?  This was the case last year, but when talking to P & O today  the cruise agent said  all items were chargeable, and I dont know if this is something new or if he was just  misinformed.

  8. Hi all, we are booked on a week cruise and are thinking of doing the previous week also.  This would mean moving from one suite to the next door suite. Would the butler assist? Do we have to repack and unpack everything?  Can anyone tell me how this happens and do we have to disembark and embark second time.  We are starting and stopping at Southampton. Many thanks for your help,

Sailing on Equinox later this year, we have opted not to prepay gratuities. Can we go to customer services and ask them not to add the $15 per day/per person at the start of the cruise? We prefer to tip as we go for good service.

    Yes you can

Once we made a huge error.... we put out folder from the check-in, in my pocket. (see how I share the blame!) and upon embarking the ship we were totally ignored. Still, we took ourselves to Michael's Club and we were soon in Heaven!

So, show the crew your colour-coded wallet with your documentation!

    Enjoy!

Where do I get the colour-coded wallet from? Is it sent before embarkation or given upon embarkation?

    Just an and finally...

Make sure you let your butler know if you want any snacks delivering to your room, daily. He will arrange cheese plates, fruit plates, shrimp platter etc..Also remember you can request a range of pillow types etc.

Early in your cruise let the concierge know if you would like a bridge tour or a galley tour.

Thanks Chemmo, I will do that. x

Yes I remember ....I seem to recall your T shirt proclaiming you suffer from Obsessive Cruising Disorder....🤣

You will enjoy the Sweet suite life.

I think we are on the cruise before you in Iceland so I'll Keep Michael's warm for you....

Yes that was  me! Hello again!  We are on 1st Sept, so I think it must be a couple of weeks before then that you are onboard. If you have any other "Suite" tips.please let me know.

We usually cruise in a CS or above and whilst we have always had an escort it has only once been a Michael's Club Concierge. That has in no way detracted from the experience and we have usually been taken by a different entrance to the ship and the escorts seem to have a magic elevator key that gives them priority.

We have always liked this little touch and it gets the cruise of to the right start😎

Hello goryjm,we met last September in connections meeting on fjords cruise, when you suggested we next took a suite, we have taken your advice,do you remember?

Don't think the butler serves drinks. We've asked them to swap out the complimentary bottle of sparkling wine for a red or white, but not for drink service. Besides, Michael's Club is a very relaxing place for drinks and I've never been stopped from leaving MC with drinks to take back to the suite, to the show or to dinner.

O.K. XtaSea, thanks for the info. xx

In a CS or higher you'll get a call from Shoreside Concierge prior to your cruise asking about any needs you may have. We always ask, among other things, that the fridge/cooler be emptied so we'll have a place for water, soft drinks, etc. We've had butlers who have taken it on themselves to put water in the fridge for us. Of course, you can ask for the same thing when you embark. We've never had one balk at the request.

Thanks,  what timescale before my cruise might I expect a call? I ask as we usually leave a couple of days prior to the cruise to visit family who live close to the port
