Cool Cruiser

Cool Cruiser (2/15)

  1. We were on the constellation in June/July for my 50th birthday cruise in the Retreat. Won't do that again. The ship needs some TLC, I like sitting on the balcony with my feet on the railing and my shoes would end up covered in rust. The bathroom was terrible. If the toilet seat wasn't closed a certain way it would make a horrible noise, toiletries weren't very well stocked. We need hypoallergenic bedding and had to fight to get something more than just a sheet. We bit have a big future cruise credit because it was just a terrible experience all around. We have cruises celebrity several times this was by far the worst experience.
  2. In Toronto there was a machine to check but wasn't printing out it's report. It didn't like one of our bags but no one checked as we boarded so we were ok People are taking smaller carry ons I noticed and there was lots of room in the overhead bins
  3. We learned from our other experience that the luggage is scanned several times, my brother in law is a pilot with our airline of choice so he was able to check. So the cabin steward just called whomever it is who keeps this information and knew the exact time that our bags made it onto the flight. We had been in business class but it never hurts to ask. My husband always asks. Probably comes from growing up the son of a pilot and the twin brother of one. Also our weeks' worth of clothing was in a maximum carryon roller bag and another. We're 3 travellers so one carry on was just clothing for my son and husband. I used the bundle method someone posted a video of here and it was great!
  4. Success! Just flew into Venice yesterday with two checked bags and both arrived! I had packed in carry on enough clothes for a week so clearly if you want your luggage to arrive just pack a lot into carry on then Murphy's law will take over! This all being said we had an extremely tight connection in Montreal on our way from Toronto, we had the cabin steward check if our luggage made it and he said it had. Our one bag was the 3rd last to come down the carousel. So the checked bag experience wasn't all sunshine and rainbows but they arrived!
  5. We did a cruise years ago, before all the luggage issues on planes, and our luggage was left behind in Toronto enroute to Rome. We had a pilot friend search the orphan luggage room, look into where the heck in it was. Our hotelier was dealing with phone calls for us since we don't speak Italian. Our luggage arrived just as the car arrived to take us to the ship. As I was pulling out clothes for our next Italian cruise I found some of the clothes we bought frantically in Rome. Fun times
  6. I'm not 100% sure because your travel agent booked it but I want to say $90 ish Canadian
  7. We have a transfer booked through Celebrity to get to the ship so yes they do
  8. I'm booked for a Sky Suite for a cruise June 22 and I believe we got an email well over a month ago. I selected wine for the room and had a spot to mention it's to celebrate my birthday and what day we'd like to celebrate. I do remember when my parents had a Royal Suite in 2016 being in touch with the ship people to choose booze for the liquor set up and I was asking if it's ok for me to bring my figure skates onboard since I'd have them with me. (Odd request but I wanted them for NYC beforehand)
  9. We've done a couple of Carnival cruises, because of the cheap fares and itineraries. We've also done a few Celebrity. Last Carnival the last evening there was a fight in the main dining room that was exciting. The crowd on Carnival we kinda feel is more prone to screaming matches. The crew has always felt more professional on Celebrity. We enjoyed the food in the MDR on Carnival, speciality restaurants we didn't find worth it at all but Guys burgers made up for it. Overall I'd say Carnival is fine. It's like going to a chain restaurant, it'll be fine but nothing spectacular but if you like the itinerary why not go for it
  10. Hey I'll be in the same cruise!!! See you by the pool bar!! 😂
  11. How amazing to hear. Good karma is coming your way. 😊 We were on a cruise of the Med and they called for someone with I believe O blood. My husband is a regular donor so my son and I hustled back to our cabin to wake him from a nap. He called the medical centre and they had found many volunteers already. It's great to know that so many will answer the call and the medical team can do these things.
  12. Sailing June 22 and my bids on a Celebrity Suite and Royal Suite are still pending. So tempted to bid on the penthouse suite but it seems a little too extravagant and really what are the odds of getting one of those! 😂🤣😂
  13. I'm Canadian and I travelled a few times with my son and not husband because we were travelling to meet him. We always took a letter just in case. I've known people to frantically need to get a letter done (my husband is a lawyer and he has had these frantic calls from friends and family to get them a letter). So I'd take one just in case. Usually no one looks at it but you don't want to get stuck because you get that one person who wants to see it
  14. We have done Pompeii from Naples and it's amazing. We're going again in June but this time will do Herculaneum. Our June cruise will be stopping in Dubrovnik, I booked the little train to the coast and into the town and for Livorno we booked to go to Florence for the 3 hours of free time. We booked tickets for the Academia to see David. I've seen him before but I want to introduce him to my husband and some because he is amazing When you're in Rome make sure to get to see the Vatican, La Pieta by Michelangelo is incredible, I'm not one to be moved by art but this made me feel feelings.
  15. I received this offer too for the June 22 sailing on the Constellation. We are in a Sky suite so I placed bids on the Celebrity and Royal Suites...the Penthouse just sees a bit over the top for my family of 3. 🤣 I placed fairly low bids because we're happy with what we booked and if we get lucky it's just gravy. Good luck bidding everyone
