  1. Hi,

This is our first time to Bermuda and we will only be there for the one day on a Sunday in August unfortunately. We are thinking of getting off the ship asap and taking a taxi to the Crystal Caves and then taking a taxi from there or the Swizzle Inn to either Horseshoe or one of the other beaches for a few hours. Does this sound like a doable plan for 4?

    Thanks,

    Lenore

  2. Upon entering St Marks from a side labyrinth our senses were reawakened. An orchestra played Vivaldi in the distance and street artists entertained the now much smaller crowds. Although the air still hung muggy around us the temperature was much more pleasant at this hour and the glistening glowing lights of the square is an image of Venice I will always hold dear.

My pictures of the square are far from perfect but as words can really not describe the beauty of that night I hope they will give you some small idea of how wonderful it was.

As we knew the vaporetto service was reduced at this time of night we begrudgingly made our way to the closest boat stop. We did have approximately a 20 minute wait but as it was close to midnight this was expected. Again we sat outside in the stern, completely alone this time for most of the journey. Lanterns glistening against the water as we glided along under the stars and moon light, who needs a gondola ride, with my loves shoulder to rest upon this was as romantic as it could get for me.

Disembarking the vaporetto in Piazzale Roma we crossed the square and had an experience similar to that of Cool Mom and Crazy Girl in Rome – the entrance to the people mover had disappeared! We searched high and low, around corners and under bridges but nope it was nowhere to be found. Luckily I had guzzled a large amount of alcohol or I may have been worried. We could see the tracks of the people mover high above us but couldn’t figure out how to get at it. Clearly our ridiculous carry on did not go unnoticed. A gentleman asked us if we were looking for the people mover – well yes actually we are where have they moved it to in the last few hours I enquired. It seems that the people mover closes around 11 p.m and we didn’t recognise the station entrance with the shutters down. Oh how stupid some tourists are! So we had no option but to set off walking using the tracks above us as a guide back to the port. This area of town is very different than the tourist hot spots and although I’m sure it’s perfectly safe looking back now I think that if it wasn’t for the previously mentioned beverages I may have been panicking a little right about now. With the help of a security guard at a car park we found our way back and think we encountered just one other couple. We composed ourselves for the passport check and were glad to get back to the air conditioned interior of the ship. Pretty exhausted we fell straight into bed looking forward to another day in Venice tomorrow.

OMG Irish Kath, I could have written this post exactly just changing the time looking for the entrance to the People Mover to 10:45 last week. We could not figure it out to save our lives since we thought it would still be running but no luck. The gates were closed and we could not figure out why we could not find the entrance. It was like it disappeared - no signs no nothing! We too wandered over to the car park and asked the security guard how to get back and encountered another couple that we helped figure it out. That was some hot, long walk back to the ship as our ship was parked in the farthest slip.

  3. Don't panic. The strike could be settled by then, especially since the air traffic controllers are also striking on Sept 6. Check your landing time. If it is outside the strike time, you will probably be OK.

Keep checking the website and look at my first post on this thread on how to read the website. Hopefully, you will see a red or yellow sign meaning that the strike will not take place on that date.

    Good luck!

Thanks Marazul! Luckily we land before the strike time but I will be checking the website anyway. Thanks so much for posting this.

  4. Just wanted to say I have been following along and love, love your review. We are going on the Serenade at the end of September for our 25th Anniiversary and my whole trip was inspired by the writings of the Middle Aged Drama Queen, Windjamming and Kreuzfahrtneuling. They have been my go to sources for what to do (and not do to LOL - well we arent going to the Accademia in Florence so I think we are good) on our trip. I need to go find Ayesha's review too now as I think I may have missed that one. Thanks for all the advice Melissa and I can't wait to read more.
