  1. I had the same issue on my June cruise on the Dawn. No, you won't be charged for an excursion that was included when you selected it. However, if they make some changes to the excursion (in my case the Naeroyfjord cruise was changed to a zero-emission ship) then you are likely to be charged. I also had an excursion that was changed from included to select, the unit cost still showed a $0 unit cost on mySilversea although it showed a total charge of $159. That was corrected on board, and I wasn't charged for it. Just as an aside, the charge for the Flåm railway excursion was US$109. I had booked it on my own for less than CAD$95. I actually had 2 reservations which was helpful when the time of the Naeroyfjord cruise was changed. The one I cancelled had originally cost me CAD$92 and I was refunded CAD$95.
  2. Note that almost all of the lines have a smaller number of passengers on board than Viking. Avalon, is definitely not the only one.
  3. I put my responses within the quoted section above.
  4. I have found in the past that notification settings sometimes seem to change without you doing anything. I wonder what CC is playing with in the settings. See my comment above. I have turned off all my notifications, so I didn't see anything. And agree with those that say to turn off email notifications entirely; they just clog up your mailbox. But to each their own.
  5. I spent 2 1/2 weeks in Norway (4 days on my own before a Norwegian cruise). I never got any local currency, and I didn't miss it. I then spent 4 days in Copenhagen on my own; again never used or missed local currency.
  6. Is there a difference between a reaction (like, haha, thank you) and a comment? Maybe a reaction says someone, and a comment tells you the user name.
  7. I don't know about the height of your Tauck ship, but the issue is low bridges, not specifically high water, on the Main (I think it is). If your ship has 3 passenger decks, then it is quite likely that the sun deck will be unavailable for a while.
  8. The only thing to note is that if the 13:30 is full, you will need to wait for a later bus with space.
  9. On the other hand, if you aren't going to be up at midnight anyway (and I admit that I have a lovely picture of the midnight sun taken at exactly midnight on my recent cruise) the second option includes all 3 of the best fjords.
  10. Except this complaint was about people taking passport pictures not being aware of the rules for the photos.
  11. I thought that was called a turn-around port. (But certainly that is what the article seemed to be saying.)
  12. I remember reading something. The UK used to do this (and maybe still do); they would add the extra time to the new passport. Then, post Brexit, Schengen was giving them issues about passports with greater than 10 year validity, and people were being denied entry.
  13. If you look at a map of the trip and see little black lines coming off the river, that indicates that there is probably a bus involved. The current problem is due to the proliferation of river boats, even if there is docking in the centre of town you might be relegated to a more distant dock. This can also happen in high or low water situations.
  14. Booking the train for this year on Norway's Best began in mid-December of 2023. The timetable for 2025 should be available here some time in December (look for R45 in red near the bottom of the list of trains) https://www.vy.no/en/traffic-and-routes/times?item=2893#item-96c83897df82 Trains were available on Norway's Best a few days after the schedule was posted. Don't worry if you get a message that all trains are booked and to choose another date. Just keep checking daily and they will appear. Book fast. However, some train times will show as sold out. They may be not have any allocations from vy.no because they have been allocated to the cruise companies.
  15. Are you sure that the flight is operated by Westjet? Perhaps it is a code share flight.
  16. Just book any excursions right away. Then, if they change from included to select you will be grandfathered in (unless there is a major change to the itinerary - at SS's discretion of course). You can always adjust them later. You don't pay for any extra cost excursions until just before the excursion departs.
  17. The times will change closer to the departure date. For popular tours there will be a number of different departure times. However, for my cruise I don't think there were really any new excursions added later, just more departures of the same excursions. The only exception was, of course, where they changed the port.
  18. I only found the information once we boarded. I don't know if there is any other way.
  19. Personally, I would much rather get a regular cabin with no or small single supplement than a single cabin which, from what I have seen (mostly on ocean cruises) are very small. Most river cruise cabins are already fairly small.
  20. For me, the highlights to see in Kirkwall (or rather outside of it) are Skara Brae and Maeshowe. You would need either a ship sponsored or locally provided excursion to get to them.
  21. I think the “otherwise” meant not returning through Dublin.
  22. Me too. However if at a table for 6 I prefer it to be a round table rather than rectangular; to me it works better for conversation.
  23. The days are fairly short. Days can be cold and rainy or nice. You would need to be prepared for anything. In most places I think you would be too early for Christmas markets.
