  1. I would love to tell you to go for the surprise but, knowing how difficult it will be, imagine how much fun you would have looking forward to your wonderful upgrade together. If the tables were turned, would you rather know about the upgrade or have it be a surprise? I happen to think that the anticipation of a trip lasts far longer than the trip itself so I guess I'd rather know now. Good luck and let us know what you decide.

  2. I agree with the other comments. We thought we would enjoy having the bed by the balcony but actually appreciated having the sitting area closest to the balcony, especially when coming and going from the balcony. It also gave us two separate open areas when trying to get ready so my husband and I could each have some space.

By the way, your cabin is right around the corner from ours on the same deck. We are in 6252. We have been on deck 6 for every Allure/Oasis cruise and love being so close to everything.

  3. Thanks to everyone for your well wishes!!! I am talking about the Royal Suite 1640. The Royal Family Suite sound awesome!!

    I can't wait for those limes!!! ;)

Last night I booked my first (and probably last according to my husband) GS on Oasis so I totally get your excitement. I've got a bit of that going on myself. Looking at tons of pictures, videos and giggling a lot over the "suite perks."

Have a wonderful cruise and enjoy your "suite life"!

  4. Thank you all. I appreciate your help.

I came here for help, because I don't know what to expect.

I booked this particular room because I hear its AWESOME. great views and quiet. Everything we all wanted. Just really wanted that room.

First, sorry this has happened to you while planning your first cruise! I would be disappointed too. Most of us have several cruises under our belt and would probably be better prepared to deal with this situation.

But I really have to give you credit for going into your first cruise knowing exactly what cabin you wanted and having so much already planned. Good for you! It sounds like, once you find out what RCCL is willing to do for you, you can take that information and use it to plan another cruise.

Good luck and have a wonderful first cruise! May it be the first of many, like the rest of us.

  5. We were on the 12-8 sailing of the Allure and was told in the WJ that lox would not be served there but could be found either in the main dining room or at Park Cafe. My husband would swing by the Park Cafe to pick up his lox and fixings and then meet up with me in the WJ. Was told later in the week that it would be back in the WJ on Thursday and it was. We heard many complaints about this during the week.

  6. I use a site that emails me when the price drops, seems to update multiple times a day. Only problem is that it checks double rates only and sometimes triples and quads don't get quite the same deal (or the 3/4 price is abnormally high).

For $1 or less for cruise (I pay) it automates the process which I prefer. I've already saved about $1200US on 2 cruises on deals that lasted less than 48 hours. Plus once final payment is done prices frequently change and it can help you find potential upgrades.

I use a site like this as well and since it bookmarks the last cruise you looked up, its quite easy to check every day. I really only do a mock booking now if I'm looking at cabin availability.

  7. To us it was "more" than just somewhere to get something to eat.

I agree with you. We would always travel with my husband's parents who enjoyed the earliest dining available. Since we dined so early, we could always take in a show or two in the evening or spend some time in the Schooner bar and would always have enough room by midnight to take advantage of the buffet. I remember always going in thinking I would just take a peak to see what was on the buffet but always came away with more than my share. We all enjoyed those buffets and the extra time we got out of our evenings. I miss them.

  8. We have eating dinners in the Windjammer on several ships including Oasis. We don't like the noise and commotion of the MDR. In the Windjammer dinner takes as long or shot a time as we want it to. Even though the Oasis class ship Windjammers are my least favorite as far as setup goes, we enjoyed our dinners there on Oasis. And, unlike you, I don't like being waited on. I much prefer getting up, walking around, and getting my own food and drinks.

I totally agree with the above. Dinners in the Windjammer are quiet, the lights are dimmed, and you can almost have an entire section to yourself if you prefer to be alone. We have always been "a little bit of this, a little bit of that" kind of people and have little interest in being served so the Windjammer is a wonderful place for either a quick or slow paced dinner.

  9. Gambee -

I've been on the Allure twice with my third cruise coming in December, just found your review and couldn't quit reading it! Your pictures are the best I've ever seen in a trip review. I loved every picture, every word and your easy going attitude while on vacation. Your relationship with your mother is priceless and I loved how you let your bf enjoy his cruise how he saw fit without letting if affect your experience. Your English as a second language is better that some having English as their first language. Another thing I loved about your review was the fact that you were constantly on the go, making for a most exciting piece to read. You would be a blast to cruise with!

Thank you for your time and effort and the most enjoyable review I've ever read! Coming to the end gave me the same feeling as finishing a great book....loved the experience but hated for it to end.

I think we should all pitch in and send you on these cruises so we can make sure we'll have good reading material for years to come...LOL!

Thanks again and I'm really looking forward to your next review and every review after it!

  10. We have dined with the captain twice and I believe both times were on formal nights. The first time was on our first cruise many years ago on the Monarch of the Seas and then again on our second cruise on a NCL ship. I thought maybe our travel agent might have had something to do with it but I don't know how she could. Both dinners were certainly memorable but the RCI dinner was far more enjoyable. I believe we still have a nicely printed copy of the menu as well as a picture of the entire table from the Monarch.
