And, the ship transfer is per person, so US$29 ($58/couple) compared to C$38 for the entire cab; usually up to four people.

Transfer reservation from HAL to TA
Alberta Quilter replied to northernphoenix's topic in Holland America Line
I had the same issue. If I was not financially responsible for the entire cost, my sister also had to fill out the same transfer form, which is what she did. I cannot confirm the onboard account part yet because we haven’t sailed yet, but I would make the same assumption. -
I don't think you would go wrong with any of them. One thing to note is the Koningsdam has more dining venues. My personal favourites are the Grand Dutch Cafe and Tamarind. The other two ships don't have either. But Bruce raises a good point about weekday departures... Look at the arrival/departure times for each proposed itinerary, too. And if you have tentative dates, check how many ships are in port at each of the ports.

I had a similar situation to EchoIsland. My appointment with a Service Canada office in the suburbs was on Apr 4th. Attempted delivery of the new passport was exactly two weeks later on the 18th. There was a mixup and it was taken to the wrong post office so three days later when I went to pick it up, it wasn't there. It arrived about half an hour later from the incorrect post office to the correct one. I was sure it was the old passport which I had requested back but it was the new one! I still would like the old one back, as a souvenir more than anything, but I can wait for that. Does anyone recall if it comes by snail mail (since it's deactivated) or does it come by registered mail?

Transfer reservation from HAL to TA
Alberta Quilter replied to northernphoenix's topic in Holland America Line
It shouldn't affect the reservation at all. I just did it. You do have to transfer within 60 days of booking. The fare cannot be paid in full at time of transfer. You'll need info from the TA and you'll have to fill out a form to send to HAL. If you booked with a PCC, there may be some urge to convince you to stay with the PCC. In the past, they have offered to match the TA perks with OBC. Not sure if they do that now. -
Leaving in 2 weeks. I have pneumonia.
Alberta Quilter replied to spleenstomper's topic in Holland America Line
I've been following this thread and am so sorry you are ill. However, I think your idea of renting a beach house somewhere is a good one. Keeps you isolated from others and still gives your husband the break he needs. I hope you recover quickly. -
I had a similar experience to oaktreerb. I was ill during the night and reported in the morning. A nurse came to the room to take my temperature and leave a packet of forms for me to fill out (what I ate, where I was, that type of info). I was isolated until 24 hours past my last symptom. There were no charges from medical for the same reasons that oaktreerb mentioned. I did receive an FCC for the one or two days I was isolated that could be used on my next cruise. It was the per diem rate of the fare I paid. This was back in 2015.

I may be biased but I think it would be a shame to miss the Yukon! I thoroughly enjoyed Dawson City in particular. Do you think you’ll only go to Alaska once? If so definitely include the Yukon. It not, you can include it next time. But will you want to do two land tours? They can be exhausting.

Excursion credits for Nov 2024 and Apr 2025 cruises
Alberta Quilter replied to Cruise Suzy's topic in Holland America Line
I had the same issue with a 2024 booking until recently. It now shows as having the shorex credits available. We booked in February and I noticed the shorex credits were available about a week or two ago. As you said, the dining credits were always available. Don't worry about it, just give it a bit of time. -
Help - Grandfather died on HAL 2023 WC
Alberta Quilter replied to rsbrocco's topic in Holland America Line
My condolences for your loss. My suggestion is to see if your grandfather already made funeral arrangements. I have made mine and I noted at the time that it included repatriation. I'm not sure if that is because I also prepaid my funeral costs. Of course, things could be different depending on where your grandfather made his arrangements (if he made them). -
Bed configuration request and method for extra tips
Alberta Quilter replied to Hllb's topic in Holland America Line
In my experience, the bed configuration question comes at the time of booking the cruise. It should show on your booking confirmation, in the Cruise Details section on the first page of the confirmation. As for extra tips, I usually find the crew member and hand the cash directly to them. Then I know that the person I wanted to get the tip actually gets it. What they do with it after that, is up to them. -
It’s a physical card. Works like a gift card with each purchase being deducted from the balance until it’s depleted. Not sure if it’s reloadable, though. And I thought I had read that HAL no longer sells them onboard. I’m sure someone will come along and address those two things.

Purchase Club Orange only with Final Payment?
Alberta Quilter replied to mjmagee's topic in Holland America Line
Wow. My sister booked us while onboard about a month ago. She requested Club Orange but still the booking was still a guarantee. I guess, in our case, the exchange rate made it challenging to get a cabin assignment and pay for CO while onboard. When she got home, she contacted the PCC assigned to her and secured our cabin (and paid for the CO then). So, if the policy has changed, it's quite recent, like in the last two/three weeks. -
HUGE Price Increase on Premium Internet Plan
Alberta Quilter replied to Roz's topic in Holland America Line
In 2017 or 2018, I experienced a price increase for shorex so this isn't something new. They need to increase the pricing, of amenities, at some point. Could they put out a notice saying effective March 1st all shorex increase by $XXX? Sure they could but why would they? If they did give some notice, people would hustle and buy their amenities before the increase which would defeat the purpose. If they spring it on people, then the early birds paid the lower pricing and the later people pay more for the same amenity. That's just the way the cookie crumbles. I get it, it sucks when one is on the paying more side... Sometimes, I've won, sometimes I've lost. -

12 days on Rotterdam vs 21 days on Zaandam
Alberta Quilter replied to MUD's topic in Holland America Line
OMG, take the Zaandam cruise! 21 days hitting all different ports, not a B2B! And some more unusual ports. While the Rotterdam is newer, and has more amenities, it's the itinerary that does it for me. I've always wanted to go to Grenada! And 21 days for the same price as 12? That's an easy choice for me. But I understand that there would be less to do on the Zaandam. And I would surely miss the Grand Dutch Cafe. Hope others can help you more than I did. I'm looking at the cost and the itinerary only. Ship doesn't really matter as much to me. It's a way to get me to where I need/want to go.- 35 replies

I've just been looking at YVR hotels for early June and am shocked at the pricing. Then I looked at Banff for a couple of days later (we're going on the Rocky Mountaineer) and the prices are even higher in Banff! I have tentatively booked the Blue Horizon (based on recommendations here) which came in at $359 for the cheapest room for three people. Not sure if that falls within your budget. But as Heidi13 suggested, the YMCA is also mentioned many times here on CC.

What about a hot water bottle? Order hot water through room service (or try to fill it yourself in the Lido but there is the issue of using glasses to do so), or try it just with hot tap water. I took a ice bag on one cruise for my back pain. It worked very well but it's easier with ice/cold water.

How to view statement once returned from trip?
Alberta Quilter replied to glorialagos's topic in Holland America Line
I think you might be looking in the wrong area of the app. It's not under Bookings, it's under Statement. -
How to view statement once returned from trip?
Alberta Quilter replied to glorialagos's topic in Holland America Line
I'm not sure how to help you with that, other than to say try closing the app. Maybe it still thinks you're onboard? If you close and reopen it, maybe it will reset. I was able to see my past statements this morning but the most recent one is three years old now! -

Alberta Quilter replied to glorialagos's topic in Holland America Line
Try looking on the Navigator app. Under Account you should be able to see past statements. Hopefully your recent statement is posted there. -
Yes, you do, for spa, drink cards/packages and shorex, but the credits will only appear after completion of the cruise. So if you're trying to buy stuff now in hopes of achieving the next level before your cruise, it won't happen until after the cruise.
