  1. We sailed on the Discovery last week with 2 teens and an 8 year old.   In the cabin there was a schedule for each child, with their names on,  for the appropriate Club listing activities.  They all thoroughly enjoyed the activities scheduled, coming and going as they pleased.

We are onboard the Majestic now…this is also our experience as Elites…no personal size bathroom amenities nor sewing kit etc except the refillable bottles (eww -gross) that I assume everyone gets.  Glad I brought a few travel sizes with me.  I will purchase some more in port.

Guest Services has the sewing kits.  Just ask.

Hi, we are first time cruisers and recently booked an Alaska cruise for September.  We started looking through the excursions and noticed some like the Skagway White Pass Rail excursion is sold out.  I did a quick search and found I can book the train directly on their website online.  I was wondering if I should just book online or if sold out excursions ever get get additional groups and can become available again.  The same applioes for other excursion too.  I notice others are sold out or in low spaces but I can usually find similar tours online.

Book and early train independently.  We were in Skagway this week and was unable to book independently.  The non-ship train leaves from the center of Skagway, about 1/2 mile walk.

  4. Currently on the Discovery, went to dinner in the Skagway dining room tonight after canceling 2 days.   Walked straight to our regular table.   I sooner had we sat down than the Maitre’d stopped by, welcomed us back, thanked us for canceling the nights we missed and went on to indicate which items on tonight’s menu were safe for DS to consume.

Wine situation was another story.   After requesting 3 possible wines of the menu in order of preference, zero luck.   Requested another 2 possible, no luck again.   Went on the app and selected one from the daily menu with success.   Hard copy and app selections do not match.  Another ongoing issue with wine supply on Princess.   We do not have a package.

Dinner was excellent.  Rack of Lamb, Goat cheese soufflé and Beef Wellington.

  5. We received a card in our cabin with the contact name of an individual to connect with regarding dietary issues.   We are currently on the Discovery and have not eaten in the dining room every night, although we do have a standing reservation for the same table nightly.   I always cancel that nights dining if we decide to  eat elsewhere.   When we return to the dining room after not reviewing the nights menu in advance, staff stops by with appropriate recommendations.   So far they have been spot on, no issues.

  6. On the Medallion app there is a section where you can enter info on dietary concerns.  DS is allergic to all seafood.  Maitre’d visits nightly with menus for following day.   Also in the buffet, a chef is available to point out food items to avoid.   I have noticed items labeled gluten free on the buffet line and in the Pastry area.   You will be taken care of.

It's much easier to get a TSA-Precheck only appointment than a Global Entry appointment.

Unfortunately I am not eligible for Global Entry.

  8. Completed  online application for TSA precheck  on Saturday evening and secured an appt for documentation check, fingerprints, etc for Monday morning.   Fortunately San Diego has a processing site at the local Staples.  Received confirmation and KTN number Tuesday afternoon.
Amazed at the speed of approval.

I believe these used to be used to turn off the in cabin announcements, if you didn’t want to hear them. Except, emergency announcements are still going to come through.

PCL doesn’t make these in room non-emergency announcements anymore.  But, other cruise lines do, and that would come in handy.

You should only see these on the older ships.   Anyway, that’s what I’ve been told.  😳

Sorry to say you are wrong,  it is emergency lighting should the stateroom lose power.  Leave it on.

Elites can no longer join the tender boarding line at will for tendering from the ship to the shore.  Elites must now wait in a ship waiting room until called.  This policy change was confirmed in writing from three Emerald Princess admin. sources and by personal observation.  Maybe this is old news to some but for us it was a brand new Elite befit reduction.

Has been this way for years.

I do not understand why so many people use cruise line airplane flights.  I may sometimes but not always pay a little more to book directly with the airline but when the inevitable problems or issues occur I can talk directly to the company that is actually providing the service.  Makes life easier.

    DON

We use EZAir for international travel.  Our flights for August are Business Class on British  Air at $3325 pp,   Booking direct with BA is $10Kpp.  Our recent South America BC on AA was $1800pp versus $9.5Kpp.

This is the first time in 10 years of flying internationally with EZAir we have had any issues.

  12. Have had a similar situation.  Our flight, direct flight from LHR to SAN,  departure time was changed by 7 minutes.  New flight time did not meet Princess requirements.  We were subsequently rebooked on a connecting flight thru Philadelphia.   Flight was cancelled.  Rebooked on a connection with Dallas, happy with the connection, subsequently cancelled.   Rebooked on a connection thru Phoenix, again cancelled.   Now routed through Seattle.   Not the best but so far so good.   We were supposedly ticketed (Travel Summary) on all the changes even before final payment.
We are still 70+ days out.   Just going with the flow.   No price increase just schedule changes.  We were notified by EZAir of all the changes.  Definitely all changes caused by BA schedule.

Any first hand experience with Princess Transfer from Montreal to Quebec?

Staying in Old Montreal.  Is Gare the closest Via Rail Station?

Did not use the Princess transfer.   Flying from San Diego to Montreal have us more options than flying into Quebec, plus the price was considerably less.   We flew 1st class booked thru EZAir.  Stayed at Hotel Le Dauphin.  The hotel was extremely clean, adults only, breakfast included, restaurants nearby and walkable to Gare.  We chose to take a cab as it was uphill, uneven pavements, construction and a wheeled bag with issues.   $10 for cab.  Would definitely do the train again.   We travelled Business Class which included lounge access, priority boarding and meal onboard the train.   Would not hesitate to do it again.   We travelled October 2022.

Many thanks to all that replied.

I am looking at every conceivable option.  Going to create a spread sheet with every possible way of getting to Quebec with costs.

Unfortunately, it is not only me.  I have to take into account my travel mate who has some restrictions.

I would love to take the train.  No baggage service and they have "assured" me that there would be someone to help me lift my 50 pound luggage into the main compartment.  Not convinced.

I travel a lot domestically and internationally. I have flown west to east...never had this much trouble getting into one city in a timely manner.

If I were traveling alone, I would take a red eye and arrive in the morning.  Not an option.

Others I have spoken to are also having trouble since there is NO direct flight into Quebec.

I will get there one way or another.  Was hoping would hear of a magical solution.

There are definitely people to assist with luggage in Montreal Via Rail.   I asked a porter for assistance and he happily took our bags to the train and stowed them in our carriage.   Arrival in Quebec a staff member offloaded our  bags and we rolled them to our hotel across the street.
