Cool Cruiser

Cool Cruiser (2/15)

  1. Wow, I’m so sorry to hear this. Sounds like Murphy’s Law has struck all around. Another nurse here, wish I could be there to help you get home. It sounds like you are doing everything you can and standing up for yourself as needed. Stay strong for a little while longer. I hope that obstacles will fall out of the way and that you will be on your way home soon to be with your loved ones and to get the care you need.
  2. Hope you are resting comfortably. Even though you may feel alone, you have your cruise critic community behind you and hoping for the best.
  3. Sounds like treatment is needed as soon as possible, something sooner than 2 days. In addition to an infection, it’s possible that the tooth has fractured requiring an emergency extraction (happened to me, fracture was not visible on x~ray only upon extraction and relief was nearly immediate). I’m also very sorry that you are dealing with this. Please keep us posted.
  4. I should add to my previous post that the remainder of our cruising around the Caribbean on WindSurf (several times for 2 week itineraries) was relatively calm. All of our sailings were in January.
  5. We have done Jewels of the Caribbean twice on WindStar and there was quite a bit of movement both times when departing Barbados for our first stop and around also Bequia. I am very prone to seasickness but managed pretty well with Dramamine and the wrist bands for seasickness and even better with the scopalamine patches. We enjoyed this itinerary so much the first time, we repeated it, lol. We have also been on big ships and experienced similar motion for what it’s worth.
  6. We’ve used tripinsurancestore.com and have had a couple of claims paid out. We live in New York and apparently CAFR policies are not allowed here so I’d make sure they are allowed in your home state. I also think some CFAR policies only pay out a portion of the total, like maybe 75%. We did get one once when we lived in Virginia. Fortunately we didn’t have to use it but I’m pretty sure it would have only refunded a portion of the total. Recommend to read any potential policies carefully.
  7. In case anyone has some concerns about the apparently steep path down to the Baths, there is a less strenuous spot to visit with similar boulders and pools. It is called Spring Bay and when we were on Virgin Gorda (pre Covid) we asked a cab driver to take us to the Baths. He noticed that my husband was blind and suggested Spring Bay instead which was very close to The Baths. It was great! Uncrowded, calm waters and you could walk among gigantic boulders. We arranged at drop off for the cab to pick us up after about 2 hours. There were NO facilities there but there was a picnic table, lol. There may have been a port a potty but I can’t remember for sure, I wouldn’t count on it. It was one of my favorite cruise spots. You still have to walk down a path but is is wide and not treacherous. I don’t believe it was paved. You can google it and see lots of pictures.
  8. You should check out WindStar cruises. The service is truly top notch. The staff are so kind and want to ensure that you have a great time. Nothing can beat gazing at the stars at night on deck or visiting the bridge for an explanation of the current navigation. We have done Celebrity, RC, Princess, Carnival and Azamara. We only book WindStar and Azamara now.
  9. I’m so sorry to hear about the weather. Fingers crossed that the forecasts are not accurate and the weather improves.
  10. Was on the Aug 31 cruise, is the weather better this time around?
  11. We’ve stayed at the Courtyard Marriott a few times pre cruise. It’s across the street from the beach but they don’t have any facilities there. If I remember there was a nice concrete path along the beach to walk along toward town. There are some restaurants and a little plaza with a small grocery and wine store walking distance. That Marriott has a small pool and they have a walk up counter to order food which was pretty good. I don’t remember the cost for a taxi to the ship being that bad. This was all pre pandemic. There is a hotel called Coconut Court on the beach by the Marriott that we were going to try this year pre-cruise but we had to cancel our trip unfortunately.
  12. Enjoyed following your review! We enjoy learning about the various ports that we haven’t visited. Since you are exploring different cruise lines, will share our perspective. We’ve sailed Celebrity, Princess and Azamara but have decided that our favorites are the sailing ships on Windstar. We enjoy the unique stops, being able to visit the bridge most anytime while sailing, the relaxed atmosphere and the personal service among many other things. We don’t miss shows or crowds. Once when looking at the evening menu posted in the morning the head chef stopped by. He asked my husband what he would like for dinner and he replied “lamb chops”. He said he would have them for him for dinner and he did! Cynde
  13. We also did the underwater submarine excursion in St. Barts and were surprised how much we enjoyed that. We saw lots of fish. We walked to Pebble Beach after that.
  14. I think about the “steps” up to board the sailing ships. I’m not sure if those asking would be able to navigate up the steps or if there is another way to board that is more accessible to the disabled.
  15. My husband is visually impaired and when we asked a cab driver on Virgin Gorda to take us to the Baths, he suggested we go to Spring Bay instead. It was a great option. The path to the water is not very difficult, it has the large boulders and calm pools of water. It was truly awesome. It was just before the Baths from the direction that we came. In fact we could see part of the Baths from Spring Bay. You can google Spring Bay for more info and also see more info on TripAdvisor.
