  1. Tell you what. We have to go get gasoline in Kahului this coming Sunday, and the gas station is adjacent to the harbor. We'll just swing by Amala Place and check out what is where - and if it is safe and worth your effort to walk there and back from the ship.
  2. This past Sunday we happened to drive from the airport to the cruise port on the road that cuts through the park, but we can't remember any beaches other than Kanaha and we are curious now. Can you give us any named areas or landmarks so we can figure out what area you are seeing? Thanks!
  3. Don't know how we missed them, but we can only find eight cabins in that category. Regardless, if you Google photos of the Regent Splendor and enlarge them you will see it appears the lifeboats are tucked in to the sides of the ship so they do not hang out and obstruct views.
  4. As far as we know, there is no Kahului Beach. Kanaha Beach Park is about as close as you are going to get to the POA. Some like the area, but if you are walking from the ship to the Park, you have to go past some grungy areas, bad road and the Wastewater Reclamation Plant. Don't know how many homeless have returned to hang out there either. The part closer to the airport may be better if jet noise doesn't bother you. We really mean this as a FYI and not sour grapes.
  5. We believe it is safer at night to put your car in the parking lot at Kahului Airport and take a taxi from the Airport right to the pedestrian entranceway at the harbor. Walking the area between the Maui Seaside Hotel and the harbor pedestrian entry isn't the safest thing to do after dark there.
  6. Your best bet is at the airport (OGG).
  7. ʻIao Valley State Monument will reopen on May 1, 2023. Advance reservations will be required for out-of-State residents for ‘Iao Valley and will be reservable as of Monday, April 17 at 9am Hawaiʻi time, two weeks prior to the scheduled park reopening. All Hawai’i State Parks day-use reservations can be made at https://gostateparks.hawaii.gov. Hawai‘i residents with a valid driver’s license or State ID, continue to get into all State Parks free of charge.
  8. Gee, when we ordered a bottle of Veuve Cliquot Brut on Regent Cruises' Explorer, it was $69. Judging from the menu of bubbly here, the same champagne on the Norwegian Encore is $99. Didn't realize the mark up was quite that great between the two lines. Actually would have figured the pricing would be the other way around.
  9. Odd. A brief check of car rental agencies on the west side indicate at least several operating out of 11 Halawai Drive (not at the airport) as being open weekdays and weekends. It might not be a bad idea to check your information again. As a side note, your ship will be tendering and not docking in Lahaina.
  10. This from a Bank of America website about foreign transaction fees: "A Bank of America foreign transaction fee is a surcharge on your credit card that appears after you purchase something in another currency or your purchase passes through a foreign bank"
  11. According to Forbes Advisor, a foreign transaction fee is a fee charged by a credit card issuer or bank for every transaction made in a country outside of the U.S. Fees vary depending on the credit card or bank’s terms and conditions, but usually fall between 1% and 5% of the purchase amount.
  12. Try Googling "Off road tours on Kauai".
  13. To the contrary. It is important people realize that If everyone who visited a beach took home some sea shells or sand, there would be less beaches to enjoy.
  14. Try Oceania's Riviera and Marina for this activity.
  15. We googled "Regent Navigator Cabin 600", and among other things it came up with an old thread by Cruise Critic members that gave a fair amount of information about the cabin and a good pro and con look at it. Even though it is old, certain facts do not change, and it is definitely worth a read.
  16. Just google the subject and you will find a wealth of information about it.
  17. Supposedly, "No" is not a word in a small cruise ship staff's vocabulary. Due to the smaller ship and far less passengers than most all other ships, the staff is better able to get to know the guest's varied likes and and provide them if at all possible. That ideally creates a feeling of exclusivity.
  18. Two excursions in one day seems rather taxing. Does everyone have enough energy to tackle (and fully enjoy) such a schedule?
  19. Because they figure they had better get us reserved now while we are still able to cruise.
  20. Amen. The only cold things you should experience when you are in Hawaii are the ice cubes in your drink. There are many places to stargaze here that are at sea level - and a lot closer to your ship.
  21. Aloha - Do know that St. Anthony Catholic Church in Wailuku (about ten minutes away from Kahului Harbor where the ship docks) will be having a 9:30 a.m. Mass on Easter Sunday. Kaahumanu Church in Wailuku has a 9 a.m. Mass that day, and is about the same distance away from the harbor. It is a rather old church, and they do Mass in Hawaiian and English - though we don't think they are Catholic. Just two options that may work for you and be a special experience.
  22. For whatever it is worth, here is another list. Can't say we would rate them as they have, but to each his or her own: "Sheraton Maui Resort & Spa was named the Best Hotel in Hawaiʻi by USA TODAY in the publications 10 Best Readers’ Choice Awards. The resort was selected for its “plush ocean view rooms, lagoon-style pool” and location at Kāʻanapali Beach. Maui properties dominated the list with half of the spots. Others making the 10 Best list included: Westin Maui Resort & Spa at No. 2; the Kāʻanapali Beach Hotel at No. 3; The Ritz-Carlton Maui at Kapalua at No. 5; and the Four Seasons Resort in Lānaʻi City at No. 9. Sheraton Maui Resort & Spa was also recently selected as a winner of Good Housekeeping’s 2023 Best Family Travel Award".
