  1. Time to say ‘kia ora’ in the sense of ‘Life and Health’. The Kiwis seem to have done things correctly. Perhaps there’s a lesson to be learned from them.
  2. Your thoughts regarding cruising from Florida under such conditions as reported in the news today:-... Florida removes mask wearing and social distancing requirements effective today. Here are key points. Florida Gov Ron DeSantis announced Friday afternoon that Florida will move to "Phase 3" of its reopening plan, lifting all restrictions on bars and restaurants blocking them from operating at full capacity. The order also prevents local governments from enforcing social distancing requirements like wearing masks in public. "It removes all remaining state-level restrictions on businesses, including on bars and restaurants, which were capped at 75% capacity in Phase 3 of DeSantis' original reopening plan." It provides a general right to work and to operate a business. Local governments can limit and regulate businesses, but won’t be able to close businesses because of coronavirus concerns. "Local governments won’t be able to prevent restaurants from operating at above 50% capacity. Under previous orders, local governments could go further than state-level restrictions, and counties in South Florida kept restaurants and bars closed after the state allowed them to reopen. Also, cities and counties won’t be able to impose any restrictions without an economic and health justification." "Cities and counties can’t collect on any outstanding fines they issued as part of their pandemic response. The order, though, doesn’t compel local governments to refund anyone who has already paid a fine."
  3. My wife excelled at skeet shooting on Carnival’s Mardi Gras during our cruise in 1992. I learned never to argue with a lady who held a loaded shotgun...

  5. The ‘Mardi Gras’ was originally the ‘Empress of Canada’. Sailed the ‘Empress of Canada’ from Liverpool to Montreal in 1969. The ship handled the North Atlantic very well. Sailed the ‘Mardi Gras’ as well but in the early 1990’s. The ship was basically the same. In 1972, Carnival, apparently, did not have the financial resources to redesign the funnel emblem so they changed the colours from green and white to red and blue and rounded the ‘blue’ circle to eliminate the forward point. Ah! memories. CV...
  6. A non-cruising comment...Was seconded to a financial institution based at 2 Broadway. Remember that the floors were uneven and my desk had to be situated across ‘the bump’ in the floor. Thankfully my next posting was in a more modern building in Chicago. From the ‘Big Apple’ to the ‘Windy Apple’. CV...
  7. Sailed in May 1963 from Southampton to New York on the ss United States on my way to University in Boston. The crossing took four and a half days sailing at 30 plus knots irrespective of the weather. Great experience. CV...

  11. Pulled the plug on November and December cruises as final payment was due. Deposit refunded. Booked non refundable airfare through Choice Air...but...as Choice Air had not yet issued the air ticket, air fare was also refunded. Happy with how the shore-side Celebrity team has handled all of our bookings, cancellations and refunds. Thanks Celebrity for the way you have treated us during this pandemic.

  13. Snaefell, what’s a proper English breakfast without fried or grilled tomatoes? Now, if white pudding is a ‘must’, and we head north of the border, add some tattie scones, grill the kippers for me plus a small portion of Arbroath smokies. PompeySailor, ‘splice the main brace’...
  14. PompeySailor, looks like the breakfast one can get at The Lady Hamilton on The Hard...and that’s no joke! Cheers! CV...
  15. Because of where we are currently located, we cruise in the winter months. No cruising? We’d sit at home and shiver! Brrr! Put another log on the fire, please!
