  1. The Miracle is having some issues which caused it to reduce its cruising speed. In order to make the other ports, it had to cancel Ketchikan for some of the season.

Unfortunately, it appears they are also running into issues forcing the stop in Victoria to be a "sign the paperwork" stop.

What is a "sign the paperwork" stop? What other issues?

  2. Hi - - we are on the Carnival cruise affected by the Miracle problems. I closed my email account and am only finding out about these changes now, too late to cancel they inform me. So very upset. I was taking 5 children, and it was all our first time! We were going go-carting in Ketchikan and that was the only place that offered it. We are doing zip-lining in Sagway (my family likes excitement) Can anyone recommend anything else in Juneau (which is sadly the only other port we are stopping at in Alaska) that would be thrilling? Without spending practically the cost of the cruise?! I cannot even find a true white water rifter-rafting trip....just these really tame float trips. Thanks for any help!

I am also on the Carnival Miracle. Don't forget our port time was extended in Victoria, BC so you will have time to do an excursion there if there are more options offered.

  3. Hi all - I will be on Carnival Miracle in mid-June and am trying to decide (A) whether I want to book a whale watching excursion, and if so, (B) which port I should book it in. We will be in Juneau from 7am-6pm, but have an excursion booked for the morning (glacier trekking, will end at 1:15pm). I have contacted Rum Runners Charters and they said there was enough time in the afternoon for a tour. Alternatively, we can go in Victoria, where we will be from 3pm-11pm.

Does anyone have any advice as to which city the whale watching is better in? Also, I have read that a whale watching tour might be a waste of money because you can sometimes see whales from the ship. Has anyone had any experience with this?

    Any advice would be appreciated!

  4. We are a group of four 30-somethings who are interested in active excursions. I was thinking that in Skagway we might actually eschew an excursion and hike to Upper Dewey, which I heard is strenuous. I am also looking into Above and Beyond in Juneau... But we haven't settled on anything.

Does anyone have any other ideas for folks who like very active excursions? I've gotta work off those cruise ship calories somehow!

Oh...and we are traveling soon. We are on the Millennium 6/20-17/14. Stopping in Ketchikan, Icy Strait, Juneau and Skagway.

    Thanks!

Hi! We have booked (but haven't gone yet) NorthStar Trekking's Level 3 trek. Everything I read says it is super pricey (which it is!) but totally worth it. Check it out!

  5. Yes this is one of pricey ones, and originally we had problems justifying the cost. But too many people talked this up and since our ship was tendering in Juneau...., we took a chance. It turned out to be one of the best thing we have ever done. Its like trying to explain skydiving to someone who doesn't fly. Just do it.

Thanks for the feedback - just to clarify - you're saying the Tracy Arm Fjord Explorer was one of the best things you have ever done, or the trekking? Just want to make sure :)

  6. Thank you for your response! I guess my question is... if we are going to spend a good sum of money on the Glacier Trek through Northstar Trekking, is it worth it to spend an additional chunk of change on this excursion? Not sure how you can compare seeing the glaciers from the water versus actually being on the glacier.

  7. Hi all - I am taking Carnival Miracle through Tracy Arm Fjord this June. I am wondering if it is worth it to book the Tracy Arm Fjord & Glacier Explorer excursion through Carnival. This is the excursion that puts you on a smaller boat to get closer to the glaciers. Carnival is charging $184pp. We are planning some other pricey excursions (Northstar Trekking in Juneau, specifically) and are wondering if it is really worth the money to get from one boat onto another going through the same area. Is the view that much better? Any advice/experiences would be wonderful. Thank you!

  8. Might it be possible to go to guest services first thing and change the names on the room? I would stress everytime I ordered a drink using another card... not a way to relax on vacation.

Hi PugGeek - I'd much prefer to just do that, but my boyfriend and I each got a "free inside cabin" deal from Carnival, but my brother and SIL did not. If we want to have 2 rooms for "free", we each need to be in one of the rooms. That's what makes it complicated. I don't think they will switch then names and still give us the rate.

  9. Hi,

2 questions... I am wondering if anyone has gotten the Cheers program on an Alaskan cruise. I know the environment is much different than a Caribbean cruise. I'm sure less drinking during the day when on the ship. Is it worth it?

Also, my boyfriend and I will be traveling with my brother and sister in law. For complicated pricing reasons, I will am registered in one room with my brother and he is registered in the other room with my sister in law. We plan on switching once on board, but only my boyfriend and I want to do the Cheers program. If he and my sister in law sign up, can I just use her card to get drinks? I know they are picky about sharing, but I will just use her card. Will they give me a hard time? I don't know how they could possibly know that I am not the person named on the card. Any ideas/suggestions?

    Thanks!
