I'm still hoping they will keep some of this character and not go full "modern Ikea" like the other refurbishments
I'm afraid you'll feel to like 'modern Ikea' - link to web with some pictures

Aliyah17 Thank you for the update - very useful information.

It's still MS Finnnmarken if booking is before the make over. After the mak over in 2020 you will book MS Otto Sverdrup.

Do not know how far you’re in your preparations- just to let you know that MS Finnmarken will be renamed MS Otto Sverdrup after the makeover.

My feeing is that providing you are not staying on land overnight in Vietnam, the visa will be organised on the cruise,
Correct - the landing card for Vietnam provided by the cruise line is also valid for independent tours except for overnight stays - cruise line can also provide the visa for overnight stay but at a higher price ($6 for landing card for RCCL, Celebrity and probably others)

How many pax does a Zodiac hold?
Not sure if any of Hurtigruten ships are using Zodiac - I know the most Hurtigruten ships have 'Polarcirkel boats' which is a Norwegian equivalent to Zodiac.
The Polarcirkel boat are custom build and has seating for 12 passengers.
-
From January 2021 Hurtigruten will only serve 7 of the 11 Costal Departures from Bergen - Havila Kystruten will join the Coastal route with four ships.
By then there will be some changes to the Hurtigruten offerings in addition to the traditional 11 day coastal voyage from Bergen to Kirkenes and return to Bergen - no changes to the costal route stopping at 34 ports along the entire coast.
The new Norwegian expedition cruise initiative in addition to the traditional coastal route between Bergen and Kirkenes from 2021:
The ships MS Otto Sverdrup and MS Eirik Raude will sail from Bergen year-round - on an 11-day expedition cruise to Honningsvåg and Nordkapp and back to Bergen. Different itineraries summer and winter (see below). In addition they will also sail the traditional coastal voyage.
From October to March, MS Maud will sail a 14-day expedition cruise from Dover, along the entire Norwegian coast to Honningsvåg and Nordkapp and back.
From April to September, MS Maud will sail the 14-day expedition cruise from Hamburg, along the Norwegian coast and back.
The new destinations in the expedition cruise initiative are Å and Reine in Lofoten, Vesterålen, Senja (via Finnsnes), Lyngsalpene with Havnnes, Træna, Alta, Fjærland, Narvik and Stavanger. See the new itineraries belowMS Otto Sverdrup / MS Eirik Raude

Also MS Trollfjord will be upgraded and renamed MS Maud in 2021
MS Midnatsol will be upgraded in 2021
-
In 2020, MS Finnmarken and MS Midnatsol will go through a big upgrade
The ships will be equipped with a battery pack, allowing it to sail into pristine polar areas and the Norwegian Fjords without air and water emissions. The ships will also have shore power connections installed, to cut all emissions when docked in ports with shore power facilities.
MS Midnatsol will be renamed MS Eirik RaudeMS Finnmarken will be renamed MS Otto Sverdrup

on the Otto Sverdrup.
Now we have to get used to new names - ‘Otto Sverdrup’ is former ’Finnmarken’
34 minutes ago, LinnieRed said:do they communicate with us in English?
When booking at the .no site links will be provided to documents in Norwegian Language - and cruise contract will also be in Norwegian Language.
You can find the documents in English language as well - if you communicate in English answers by email or by phone will be in English.
34 minutes ago, LinnieRed said:decided on the QR category
At the deck plan the category is QJ - I have not sailed Finnmarken but as I read the deck plan the three cabin does not hav obstructed view. Hopefully someone who have sailed Finmarken has the answer.
Important to ask questions and e well prepared - primarily for Hurtigruten which is not a mainstream cruise line.

There's a 1:40 flight. Would that be too tight?
For a 7am arrival absolutely no problems with an 1:40pm departure -

Flying through London you handle it there instead
For flights via London passport control in Copenhagen -US immigration check in London - for flights via Frankfurt or other Schengen hubs passport control and check at last Schengen airport.

When do you expect to arrive into Copenhagen? - for flights via LHR I’ll recommend at least four hours - if direct to Zia’s a bit more and for flights via Schengen airport maybe three hours from port. List of Schengen countries
-
Assuming that both legs of you flight are on the same reservation and at the same Paris airport it will be sufficient time.
Some people want to spend hours in airports - I’m always looking for connections with the shortest possible layover. In case of delays the airline will make sure that you either make the connection in shorter time or will book you at the next flight.
I strongly recommend to plan to arrive at the cruise departure port at least one day before the cruise.
-
Premium and Classic is the type of ferry - depending on departure time.
If you want to do the cruise I’ll suggest that you book both the ferry and the shuttle bus at the web.
Note that the ferry is sailing in both directions from Flåm and/or Gudvangen.
The shuttle bus can be any type of bus - will be marked with a signin the front screen.
In addition to the shuttle also public busses - Nettbuss VY450 as well as Nor-way bussexpres NW162 and NW420.
Also available at the web.
-
There are few Norwegian holidays where the daily flights are not operated - since Nordlys is just refurbished it could be a better choice. Look for the cabin class in the description of the cabin and then look at the deck plan.
For you research use the English version of the web.
-
Agree with mhb1757 - too tight schedule when 9am to 4pm- also depend on ship is docked or tendering.
Both excursions are two hours - in addition shuttle from Gudvangen to Flåm
I have attached 2019 timetables assuming that times will be similar for 2020.

Of course, it is still possible that there will be now some extra hassle with the payment terminals when encountering a foreign card, which does not behave the same way as the European cards.
Already today many terminals might only accept chip and pin - if you plan to travel ‘cash less’ simply bring a chip and pin card. If not chip and pin then bring cash.

wasn't going to have local currency for Copenhagen, only use credit card.
You’ll be safe with a chip and pin card - highly recommended anyway,

I hope that the more I know, the more informed decisions I can make.
Exact the reason for this forum. Hurtigruten is not a mainstream cruise line and it’s important to get all the answers to the questions for a successful voyage.
Happy to assist.

What is the link to that Norwegian Hurtigruten website?
It is https://www.hurtigruten.no/ - they might use geoblocking outside Europe. Let me know if I can help checking prices.
