  1. I'm following-up to my earlier post re: Chesapeake Bay April 26th. I phoned ACL and there is a cost of $650 per person for the evening prior, staying at the Four Seasons on Pennsylvania Avenue. We will be staying at a hotel near Reagan airport, which is much, much cheaper and then taking an Uber to the Four Seasons the next morning. We'll pick up our embarkation package and be able to board the bus with everyone else that is staying at the Four Seasons.
  2. Hello Mimmy52! For whatever reason, we were told it was our cost. I know on the previous two sailings the hotel was included . . . I'll phone them on Monday and post their response!
  3. We sailed The Melody a couple of weeks ago, disembarking on 10/5 in Chatanooga. We did not take a bus through the portion you are describing. Just an FYI.
  4. We sailed on The Melody in September of 2023. We then sailed on The Eagle in April of this year, and recently sailed on The Melody (again) in September. All three cruises had tables of two in the dining room, not a lot, for sure, but there were a couple.
  5. We are on the April 26th sailing from Washington. We've been told the hotel the night before is the Four Seasons, price to us is $1,100. Not paying that whether we have the money or not. I like the suggestion above to stay near the airport and then Uber the next day to The Wharf. However, documents, boarding pass, etc. are typically given out at the hotel of ACL's choosing. This will be our 4th journey with ACL. Any ideas? Thanks!
  6. Yes, I hear what you are saying. This is for our cruise in April 2025, the Chesapeake Bay. We leave from the docks in Washington, DC, and arrive back dockside in Baltimore.
  7. Thank you, Host Jazzbeau, for that wonderful information! I'll remember it for our next booking!
  8. We are going on our 3rd cruise next week with ACL. Because DH and I like to choose our specific stateroom, I book directly with ACL. They are very nice on the phone and very helpful. I'm not sure if travel agents charge a fee for their services . . . I would "assume" they do.
  9. We sailed on The Eagle this past April. We flew into Jacksonville and took an Uber to the hotel, which was the Hyatt Regency Jacksonville Riverfront. This is the hotel the cruise line placed us at. The nice thing?!!!!?? The Eagle was launched directly across the street on the river! All we did the next morning after a wonderful ACL sponsored breakfast at the hotel, was walk across the street and embark. We returned to the same dock in Jacksonville for an overnight stay on the ship. DH and I walked over to the military venue past the parking garage, and spent some time there.
  10. Last September we took the Lower Mississippi River cruise from New Orleans to Memphis. At that time, there were parts of the river that were a tad low, so we docked at a different place than normal. That being said, you will find the time frame to be similar to that of a major cruise line. Arrive early morning, depart early evening. Our last day was in Memphis and we were overnight in that city. In April, we took the Florida River cruise. We left from Jacksonville and arrived back to Jacksonville, where we also had an overnight onboard. Plan on a morning to evening time frame at each port. Hope this helps!
  11. We are leaving next week on the Tennessee River cruise. This will be our third with ACL. The "loop" is a wonderful way to see the area where the ship docks. You board one of their buses (which, BTW, follow the ship, typically 3 of them) and they circle around the city to the points of interest. You get on/off throughout a time period of a few hours. This may be an option for you.
  12. We are leaving next week for the Tennessee River cruise. I've been able to access their web site the past few days. Also, I note that your itinerary has been changed to a one way trip. We are also going on another cruise next April wherein we recently received notification that it is changed to a one way. As long as the itinerary stays the same, we're good to go!
  13. I agree with the post above mine. The age is 60 on up. At least it was on the two cruises we've taken with ACL. We have not seen children or teens on either sailing. There are no programs for them. I'm not sure how comfortable they would be . . . personally, we would not take kids/teens on these ships. Whatever you decide, though, have a wonderful time!
  14. While we have stayed on the 4th deck on The Melody and the 3rd deck on The American Eagle, I can say that the lower deck, one and two are highly traveled. There is the laundry room and the fitness room on these decks. Also, hallway traffic to the laundry for the staff is on the lower decks. I've peaked into these lower deck cabins and they are a lot smaller than the 3rd and 4th decks of the ships we have been on. BUT! If you are traveling to enjoy everything else but your cabin and you don't mind the square footage, then go for it. Whatever your choice, I hope you love ACL as much as we do.
  15. ACL is very good about having ample employees to assist with getting on/off the ship for excursions. They have plenty of golf carts to transport you to the bus for excursions. The bus has a step stool with wonderful drivers that help you aboard. The first few seats are reserved for those needing assistance.
  16. Just returned from a smaller cruise ship line, American Cruise Lines. It was wonderful with only 136 passengers aboard. Smaller cruising, more attention to detail. That being said, for my cruise journal I obtained postcards in each of our stops and am creating scrap book pages with each postcard. It'll be different from my previous "typical" scrapbooks.
  17. Yes, we noticed this as well . . . times are a changing . . .
  18. I agree with you! We will never go back to "big ship" cruising again. We just returned from the Melody up the Mississippi. It was fantastic and worth every penny. We stayed on Deck 4 in Cabin 423. There is not one thing negative I can say. Beautiful cruise and we met so many wonderful couples!
  19. We just returned a couple of weeks ago from cruising the Mississippi on the Melody. That being said, THERE WAS SELF SERVICE LAUNDRY ON THE MELODY. There were 3 washing machines and 3 dryers. I used them after lunch when an excursion was leaving.
  20. We just returned from cruising the Melody from NO to Memphis on 11/1 to 11/8. There were no excursions that were missed. However, in Vicksburg, we had to dock a tad bit away and take a bus ride to our excursion of the battlefield, which was a 20 minute ride. Additionally, we couldn't dock in Memphis where they normally dock. That being said, we were still situated very close to town. Memphis was our favorite stop because we mainly took this cruise for the history. Lots to see and do. As far as the ship: we were in Cabin 423. It was very roomy with a nice balcony. The noise level in the hallway was practically non-existent. Meals were fine, however, whenever they served steak of any sort, it was on the rare side. Hubby likes his steaks and meats medium to well. They just always came out rare. BUT the food was good. Cocktail hour and good conversation ensued every night. Colin, the Cruise Director, was spot on. He was always available, along with Meg to answer or assist you with your concerns. If you have specific questions, please let me know. Oh, the water level on the river was low. Lots of sandbars.
  21. Thank you so much for your reply! We'll be sure to check out what you stated.
  22. RIP, so happy we saw him in MA. A legend, a true legend . . .
  23. We are staying at the Intercontinental in November. This seems like a nice hotel, but is the area of the hotel safe? Thank you.
