  1. We, too, remember when Regent/Radisson had someone from the ship on every tour. It gave us a sense of being taken care of, if something untoward happened they could communicate directly with the right people onboard. Fortunately, we never had anything happen to us, but have been on tours where others needed this assistance (falls, etc.) We wish Regent would reinstate this practice.
  2. Two specific questions for those onboard the Explorer now. We are unable to book excursions in Naze as all are sold out, with no waitlist. Can you access anything in that port that is worth seeing close to the terminal? On disembarkation day is Regent offering a transfer to Narita that includes any sightseeing? Our flight isn’t until 5pm. Thanks and happy cruising.
  3. I often check Google maps before booking a tour to understand driving times from port to points of interest. Yes, it’s not perfect, but we have rejected numerous tours based on this information.
  4. Hoping someone currently on the Explorer can break radio silence and update anything and everything on the current Tokyo rt cruise. Much appreciated.
  5. We cleared the waitlist for our rt Tokyo cruise this April last August. We had been on the waitlist for months. All categories were waitlisted. Now there is availability showing in 7 categories. Surprising to me.
  6. Everyone knows what the rules are when they pay for their cruise (if we assume they can all read). If the cruise line does not enforce the rules, I am not getting what I paid for. It would be no different than if, after boarding, I was asked to pay for my included drinks.
  7. Please keep us informed about your cruise as you have time. Weather, tours, pluses and minuses, anything really that you feel is worth mentioning. Thanks to all onboard.
  8. I am happy to say that have never taken my wife out for a nice dinner in a University of Toronto auditorium with 1200 college kids. Much less paid $1000 per day for the privilege. 🙂
  9. Portolan, hope the cruise has started well, we are following you with interest. Any comments on the pre-cruise program? Frankly, it doesn’t look too special, hoping we might be pleasantly surprised. Any suggestions for eating lunches or dinners near the Hilton? How was the hotel? Understand it’s very busy, hard to get elevators down, etc. Look forward to hearing about the ports and tours you take. Thanks and bon voyage!
  10. Portolan, appreciate all your posts. Have you found any nice restaurants close to the Hilton for lunch or dinner? Seems like a miss for the pre-cruise program to not have at least some dinners. Any reports on the pre-cruise excursions and embarkation tomorrow would be of great interest. Happy cruising!
  11. Google “time in Tokyo “. Subtract current time, in my case 15 hours. Subtract one more hour for springing forward tomorrow. Now it’s 14 hours ahead in Tokyo. All calculations work from there. I think!
  12. I have the same stored in photos on my phone. Are you going to print as well? Would appreciate any tips after you get through the airport, plus any information on the self-testing and embarkation on the 14th. Thanks and Bon Voyage!
  13. At least two vaccinations plus one booster to enter Japan without a test. A self-administered test within 72 hours to board. My understanding.
  14. Just completed this process for our April 11 Tokyo rt cruise. At least I think I completed it. For me, it was an arduous endeavor. Suggest anyone doing the same not underestimate the time required and bring your maximum patience. Of course, others may be more adept at such things.
  15. Wife had a very nice haircut and styling. Used a good portion of the OBC.
  16. Can’t speak for Android phones, but all iPhone pictures have a time/date stamp. Select your photo from recents or an album and tap the “i” icon at the bottom. It shows day, date, time, iPhone description, photo size and even a map showing where it was taken.
  17. The excursions on Seabourn are not cheap, and they can add a lot over the course of the cruise. We’ve never done a precise apples to apples comparison but in our mind the two lines run relatively close in price when everything is included. We choose by itinerary first and ship second. Cost has never become the tiebreaker.
  18. We have a Tokyo rt in April on Regent and a self test within 72 hours of boarding is required. Japan is only very slowly easing restrictions.
  19. Rachel, as you preceed our cruise by two weeks, we would appreciate hearing about your experience re: mask requirements for flight to Tokyo, mask requirements in Tokyo (hotel, restaurants, tours), pre cruise antigen self test and embarkation process etc. If you have time, of course. Thank you.
  20. We didn’t consider either the room or the hotel for the post cruise program in Singapore, the Shangri La, to be anything but first class.
  21. To paraphrase Ronald Reagan: I do not intend to make an issue of other’s youth and inexperience.
  22. Protolan, thank you for the information. We are on the April 10 Tokyo to Tokyo cruise. Please keep us updated on what process Regent implements, if any. Not thrilled to be flying to Tokyo without knowing that we will be allowed to board the Explorer. Wondering what Regent will do with a passenger that tests positive at the pre-cruise hotel. Quarantine in the hotel and join the cruise later? How many days would quarantine be in that case? Perhaps questions for Jennifer Teegen?
