  1. Okay let's clear this up.

The free shuttle bus ride from the ship is 5-7 minutes max. It now takes you to a parking lot where you can catch a different bus for 1E that will take you to the train station, or you can walk to the train station, about 20 minutes.

The train is 12E round trip; a cab would be very costly, depending if you just wanted it to drop you off in Rome or spend the day driving you around and back to port--we are talking hundreds of euros. It is about an hour drive, depending on traffic.

Your options if you don't want to take the train are arranging a private tour (~500 euros) or meeting up with others on your roll call and sharing a tour, or taking a tour through the cruise line. A pre-arranged tour driver would meet you at the ship and you do not have to take the shuttle.

Many of us on these boards advocate the train--and there is tons of info here--but some people are not comfortable using it for whatever reason--really up to you!

Thank you very much. We would like to take the train into Rome and so we will either take the bus for 1 euro or walk. Your information is most helpful.

  2. I have been inforned that the port shuttle bus from the cruise ship to the port entrance no longer exists and that now the port shuttle bus takes you to a location about a 20 minute bus ride away, (where there are vendor stalls) and where there is another bus to take you to Rome or a taxi to take you to the train station in Civitavecchia! This information came from someone who cruised with Royal Carribean however I presume this is the case for all of the Cruise Lines. My DH and I are looking at a cruise in the Mediterranean in September with Holland America.

  3. My DH and I will visit Gibraltar this fall on a transatlantic cruise. While in North Yorkshire England my DH tried Theakston's old peculiar ale. He was hoping there might be a pub in Gibraltar where he could enjoy a pint of Theakston's old peculiar or any Theakston's ale. I know this is probably a long shot but I wondered if anyone might know of such a pub? Thank you.

  4. My DH and I are going to fly from Toronto Canada to Lisbon Portugal and our flight arrives at 6:30 am in Lisbon. We will collect our luggage, clear customs and then proceed to our departure gate for a flight from Lisbon,Portugal to Barcelona. We we would like to know how much time to leave between our arrival at 6:30 am in Lisbon and our departure on our next flight to Barcelona. Is Lisbon airport fairly small? We very much appreciate your help.

  5. My DH and I plan to take the train first thing in the morning from our cruise ship in Civitavecchia to Rome buying a BIRG ticket. Do we need to validate our ticket just once in a machine in Civitavecchia station or each time we board a train or metro? After taking a guided tour of the Vatican in the afternoon we plan to take the train back to Civitavecchia from the Roma S. Pietro station. How far is it from St Peter's Basilica (the last stop on our guided walking tour), to the Roma S. Pietro station and/or how long would it take take to walk there at an average pace. Where would we board the train to Civitavecchia from the Roma S. Pietro station (is the station very large?) and is there anything to look for to tell us we are on the right train. Many questions I know and we do very much appreciate all the advise we receive on Cruise Critic.

  6. My DH and I will be arriving on a cruise ship in Civitavecchia on Monday May 26th at 7 am and hope to travel by train to Rome and then take a bike or walking tour of Rome in the morning. We wondered how long it would take to take the port bus to the entrance to the port, then walk to the train station in Civitavecchia and then take the train to Roma termini station? We dock at 7 am. Any advise is much appreciated. Thank you.

  7. My DH and I have booked a 5 day cruise on the constellation. This is our first cruise with celebrity. It is too late to mail our luggage tags and we wondered how to obtain them when we arrive at the cruise ship terminal? We will eat lunch at the oceanview cafe and wondered if there were any tables outside. We are experiencing a frigid Toronto Canada winter and were looking forward to spending as much time in the sun as possible. Thank you so much for your help.

  8. My DH and I see a cruise with a fabulous itinerary in May of 2014, 12 days leaving from Barcelona. The prices of an interior cabin or ocean view cabin was 1000 dollars less for this cruise if you booked in May 2013. Is it possible that 6 or 8 weeks before departure, that the price of the cabins may come down closer to the price of the cabins in May of 2013. We do appreciate your advise.

  9. My DH and I are new to Royal Caribbean having previously cruised with HAL but we see this cruise going in May or August and the exciting itinerary and are interested. I use a site which monitors the pricing of cruises and noticed that in May 2013 the cabin prices were considerably less than now (for an interior about 800 dollars). Is it possible that closer to the cruise departure date the price of some of the interior or ocean view cabins will come down closer to the price of the cabins in May of last year (with HAL this can happen about 8 weeks or so before departure). I know there are no guarantees but wondered if this is at all possible. We do appreciate your advise.

  10. Is it possible to walk from Kralendijk to Bari's reef which is in front of the Sand Dollar Condominiums and Bonaire Dive and Adventure. We would very much like to snorkel here on Bari's reef. Your advise is much appreciated.

  11. My DH and I will be in Bonaire this month and are taking a snorkelling trip to Klein Bonaire in the morning, however we enjoy snorkelling so much (and from what we have read the snorkelling in Bonaire is so special), we were hoping to snorkel after our trip close to the cruise ship terminal. Is there anywhere within a 10 to 15 minute walk of the cruise ship terminal and if there is, to the right or left of the terminal. As always your advise is so much appreciated.
