  1. I've seen someone post 9/11 drive across the Canadian border with a paper copy, with limited hassle. And in that same car was a LEO that did not check their firearm like they were supposed to, so it created some drama. I am sure it wouldn't have worked if we were flying. I was shocked that it did at all.
  2. Are you getting them from multiple PVPs? I've only I've ever gotten them from the one assigned to me. I guess you can call it a cold-call, if you've never talked to them. But eventually if you talk enough they may reach out with legitimate calls that you'll want to take.
  3. I mean if it's the only rooms available, sure go for it... not bad, per se. But not as good as Dream class. I'd prefer Havana everyday over Spa on that class. You get access to heated loungers and saunas. I wouldn't bother with the tiny lukewarm tub.
  4. This is aggravating for us as well. We recently had an ABC cruise that morphed into a much less cruise at the last minute, with no OBC or anything.
  5. I have stayed in Horizon 7457 and 5230. I think we preferred 7457, but I have a terrible memory for such things. 7457 (youtube vid) allowed us to hop down the steps really quickly and was also pretty quiet. They also lock one of the entrances to the Havana area and I believe this one was the side that was unlocked, so you didn't have to traverse across the bar area in wet clothes all the time: 5230 was on the wrong side, so we either had to go through the bar area or elevator area to get to the entrance side. Noises from the bar were not as bad as I was expecting. So from that standpoint, it wasn't so bad. If it's a choice between a balcony without Havana access or an interior with Havana access, I'd choose Havana every time. I will say that I actually prefer Serenity over Havana on port days, when it's not crowded. I like the furniture and atmosphere better over there. But Havana is a godsend on sea days when Serenity is at capacity. Also, kids 12 and older are now allowed in Havana FYI. It's no longer adults only. Here is a link worth checking out: Mardi Gras (MD) Havana Experience and Staterooms
  6. Robbie Peaple – September 22 to November 23 @Saint Greg has that on his website.
  7. I know you had specific questions, but the title of this thread made me think of a similar one: Though someone did rightly point out that it might be better to not know, so you don't go in with a negative idea.
  8. The last time I was on Magic was shortly before the covid shutdown, so I don't have firsthand knowledge of it lately. But it's an ongoing concern for cruisers and there are regular threads on the topic, one of the recent ones I saw can be found here:
  9. If you have a massage scheduled you can also visit that area during that massage window. Sometimes they let you do day passes in addition to the week passes. (So a bit cheaper.) Otherwise it's off-limits.
  10. Shh.. I've been on there where it was a secret and we had hot tubs to ourselves most of the week and I've been on when the secret was out and people brought the party to deck 5 and there was no peace near the hot tubs. Dream class is my favorite, but I wasn't sure it really qualified as "older." I have been on spirit class once back when it was new. I'd like to do another now that I'm more seasoned, but we like the spa so much on dream, it's hard to bypass.
  11. Yea a car lot in the area was hit and a bunch of their cars were sold with salvage titles. On the outside they all looked brand new, and it was all because of flood damage. There was an old news story with a helicopter flying overhead and you could see the roof of the vehicles all submerged.
  12. Looks like this has been happening for awhile a few other threads on the topic. In this one it says if you login and go to this site they will show up.
  13. RC tv easily swung out so you could attach your own device. Can't remember if we had to use universal remote or not. HAL has enough free on demand movies that we never needed to attach our device. Carnival you must fish the HDMI and it can be a difficult job. You must bring a universal remote. If you do manage to do all that, you may hear about it from your room steward. They are definitely behind the times.
  14. I do love spa access, but know that Vista is a bit of a joke in that regard. They have various sauna options and heated loungers and a tiny hot tub, instead of a true hydrotherapy pool.
  15. I will confess with our HAL cabana, it was a free interior that was later upgraded to a balcony on one side of the ship with our cabana retreat on the other side of the ship, so it was lovely to always have shade in one place or the other. It was not a casino deal, but just HAL trying to get the younger demographic. I doubt we'll be invited to another free cruise. It was lovely to have the opportunity though.
  16. @bstel I appreciate this detailed reply. I can confirm the "skip to the front of the line" but I was a bit concerned with the large crowds and rope hopping and mean looks. Good to get some firsthand perspective from a parent. Have you ever been too early to the port, before the boarding process had begun? If so, how was that handled. Just trying to think through the scenarios.
  17. I saw several people outside near the ocean plaza on deck 5 pretty regularly. I know you said inside, but thought I'd mention it.
  18. We have paid $399 for a Retreat Cabana on HAL Nieuw Statendam and really enjoyed it. I'd do up to $500 for the privilege.
  19. https://brobible.com/sports/article/olympics-surfing-athlete-village-tahiti-cruise-ship-aranui/ Surfers are staying aboard the Aranui 5 for the Olympics. The dual-purpose passenger/freighter ship designed to offer all of comforts of a cruise liner, while operating as a supply ship. She can hold approximately 230 passengers and will anchor near Teahupo’o for the entirety of the surfing competition. It is the first-ever floating Olympic Village! Olympic surfers already have a pretty sweet gig. To get to catch one of the most famous waves in the world while sleeping onboard a comfortable cruise ship in Tahiti is awesome.
  20. FTTF and the special needs line would get you on the ship sooner, but there will still be lines and waits if you get there before things are ready. The fastest I've ever gotten on a ship was coming after 1:30, when the madness has cleared away. But you'd need to have a plan for that morning so the kids aren't just waiting around until then. It's been too long since I've been to Charleston to have specific info about that port. It's definitely worth reaching out to them with that form, they have been super accommodating to my family in the past.
  21. I follow vloggers that do RCCL and they have stopped multiple times, but our recent HAL and Carnival Key West stops were both re-routed elsewhere. Just be forewarned, even though it's on the itinerary, you may not stop there.
  22. I really thought this was going to be questions about taking a rifle aboard and how to arrange an actual bear hunt from a cruise ship.
  23. The wording of this made me remember an old trip report from @HeyYouKidsGetOffMyLawn with a bitter sweet ending and reddit post. Worth checking out if you got time to spare. After-Action Report, Victory, May 8-11, 2014 Carnival Burial-At-Sea from a cruise ship
  24. Nice to know a second hotel that does that in addition to Pan Pacific. Not sure if it's any cheaper, but thanks for next time, I can price them both.
  25. I see posts like this and automatically assume they are out of my budget. Would you mind saying ballpark cost for an interior cabin, I no longer see these on the site to check myself. Speaking of interior, did you have any regrets going with that option? It looks like a wonderful once in a life type cruise.
