But they already have , Queen Annie's 'Alternative venues' stuck on the end of the buffet and elsewhere . If you are referring to no tablecloths.  😅

To be fair, tablecloth or no tablecloth and stuck anywhere,  MylesS' photos of Aji Wa had me all but reaching for the phone for a Wagamama Deliveroo!

We have visited both, twice on Queen Victoria world cruise segments, the last time being '19.

If I remember correctly, Reunion's Le Port was sort of 'shut' '19 due to an escalation of the French Caribbean general strike.

Luckily, the local entrepreneurs weren't taking part and we managed a car, driver  and a guide booked through Cunard.

Cunard port planners have been awakened from their slumbers... I don't recall a world cruise calling at both Réunion and Mauritius before and it sounds right out of a Messageries Maritime timetable c. 1954.  But I suppose they make diverting enough "stretch your legs" calls on the long Indian Ocean passage and you have bragging rights with French sailors in Toulon, too.

What ?? No foie gras 😭, even in QG?

    Thank goodness

I had foie gras royale in the veranda on QV in July

Fois Royale isn't Fois Gras Royale.

No birds are  force fed and the end  product is 'manufactured' after the birds have been killed for their meat.

Optimally the revised question is “how comfortable will it be to use the balcony.” Sounds like layers are in order.

You will not need layers until at least a day or two after Hamilton in our experience.

The Northern routes we took, NY to S'ton were pretty cold. The Southern route via the Azores, which is the one you'll be taking was  more forgiving weather wise.

    edit

The only thing I'd say though, is your balcony with it being mid aft to port side, might be more exposed to the wind.

Yeah, once you've had lobster fresh like that, it's hard to accept the frozen tails. I never order lobster on a ship. You did omit one thing about the fresh lobster--served with LOTS of melted butter!!!!

    Nope

A cold lobster, crisp iceberg lettuce simple salad and plenty of Marie Rose [the proper stuff not ketchup in disguise] as a dipping sauce.

    Food of the Gods.

I ask for a lobster [tail] cold salad [me detailing the fixings] for lunch occasionally. No dressing but Marie Rose on the side.

    Yum

Telling disabled people what they need instead of asking them is never a good idea. I don’t believe it’s about safety at all. It would be far safer for me (for example) to walk down some stairs than to try to get onto an evacuation chair. Their whole policy is badly written and creates a distinction between wheelchairs and scooters that does not exist in law.
Don’t get me started on ‘full time disabled’ I find it really offensive to be told by them that I am not properly disabled, in their opinion.

I have to disagree. I think some sort of safety issue is involved but what, we haven't been told about.

Unfortunately, if fifty people were asked what they needed as far as assistance is concerned, the likelihood is at least a dozen issues would be mentioned.

Cruise lines would find it very difficult to cover all the various issues passengers might have if wanting to implement any changes so a blanket 'edict' is their only answer...which is most certainly what they have done.

The distinction 'in law' does not necessarily apply to safety at sea. I'm no legal beagle but I'm pretty sure P&O and Cunard will have had theirs pouring over the new rulings and will have covered their backsides pretty thoroughly.

Maybe all the ill will engendered  might nudge some suits into giving more of an explanation. Maybe.

  8. I prefer cruising for those with less than full health has become very popular rather than too popular but in my untutored opinion, the numbers on our Cunard cruises do seem have to have increased over the years so H&S  might be the reason a 'stopper' of sorts is now being applied.

Other than that, until 'we' are informed, 'we' don't know.

  9. Megabear2 as you say, these two lines seem to be the only ones at the moment with this ruling which leads me to think, there must/might be a reason and we, the passengers involved have not been given privy to that reason.

Until more information is given, the speculation will not enhance the reputation of either line  with those who have and will be impacted.

edit, I feel dreadfully sorry for those who will have had their imminent cruises cancelled, never mind those in the months to come and hope the full fare paid, will be refunded.

It's nothing to do with inequality or discrimination, its a simple matter of legal responsibility.

The fact that cruise lines have barely or only partially complied with their duties in the past has led to the present situation, and as per the norm when legislation is fully applied for the first time it leads to upset.

More so because of the cack handed way that P&O have in their usual poor public relations way gone about introducing change with immediate effect and no warning or consideration given to their customers, many of whom would have booked up some considerable time before.

I have to agree and this is from one where the ruling would impact on us on Cunard if we weren't lucky enough to have  'correct cabins' already booked.

What is unforgivable is, as you say, the 'cack handed' way it's been implemented which leads to all sorts of speculation which in turn, does neither line any favours.👎

A QV March TA is likely to be the last leg of the world voyage?

We did FL to Southampton on QV in March 22 - when the ship had to return to the UK post haste because of covid and the start of lockdown.  Further planned ports including NY were omitted, it was a straight run.

The weather was fine, good enough for walking out on deck but not for sunbathing in swimwear.  A warm top layer would be advisable.  Depending when in March, weather as you get closer to Europe will vary.  The beginning of the month is likely to be still a little wintery with winds, later may be better and feeling more spring like.

We usually opt for deck 7 but further midships.  The even numbered rooms will be on the north side but as you are aft you should also get any later sun from the west.

Did you 'do' the northern route?

We have in the past when sailing the last couple of sectors of QV's worldie and our New York stops were on the northern route which is cooler than The Azores itinerary.

7150 won't get the sun as much/early as 7171 but due to the extensive aft balcony, will get more than pure port side cabins and I would say, the weather was certainly good enough for sitting in swimwear well after Hamilton. I spent most of our last Hamilton stop watching the Oracle and Emirates skimming the water when practising for the America's Cup as we were lucky enough to be docked by the Dockyard.

As I said, weather is in the lap of the Gods.

Thanks for the input. We are booked in 7150. Not sure if that’s south.

Lovely cabin. Not stayed in that one but have 7171 and the deck 6 below yours. 7171 would have been a preferable cabin for the direct sun but it should be warm.

We have sailed your itinerary a couple of times on Victoria and if you are sailing the southern route via The Azores then yes, you'll have decent weather for most of the trip unless the e=weather 'turns' and that is in the lap of the Gods.

  13. My parents loved the 'fjords' and continued their love affair with the renamed Saga Rose.

They were on the ill fated '96 Worldie when Sagafjord caught fire. I have a photograph somewhere of passengers sleeping on deck as the fire had crippled the air con.

They were also on QE2 when she ran aground off the East coast. They were on an extended TA which wasn't as extensive as had been planned as it turned out!

Okay, I did as told and now I think I strongly dislike you. 😂

As to the rectangles, if a crescent shape is problematic for people, they can go ahead and make an imaginary rectangle within the crescent and Bob’s your uncle. What a strange thing to get hung up about! Especially if you know how to dance. I wonder if Cunard lobbed off the crescenty bits for them, would they be happier?

    Thank you.

I now have an excuse, oops sorry, reason for my poor dancing if Bell Boy ever gets his act together and cruises QA again.

    It's the  crescenty bits!!👍,,,😃

And it is always nice to be home, if not quite as exciting as embarking.

From surveying the luggage hall with all the smart new suitcases, I think the thing to do is to have very tatty, but not collapsing, luggage, then nobody will think they are theirs. Ours are getting that way.

    Ah but

I also want bags which will pass the elephant test and when inadvertently dropped will either not split open and will hopefully know how to swim without getting too wet! 🙂
