  1. Funnily enough, my [solo] inside cabin on QM2 didn't feature a butler bringing me any requested sushi, so lunchtime was sushi time in Kings Court. Fabulous!
  2. Then as I did, a visit to Front desk and now armed with ADA minimum dwell time is in order. I'd be there like a shot!
  3. Should have added Going forward, whether Cunard adopt Doc M or ADA remains to be seen,
  4. The time of lift opening is called lift [door] dwell time and the minimum is between 5-6 secs for disabled access. QA's lifts are standard at 9 secs. I know this as I had a chat with one of the managers [can't remember title] about the snappy door closure problem for those with reduced mobility. Cunard therefore meet requirements and then some. Still an issue if a wheelchair user happens to be on the wrong side of the lobby and the lift is empty as no amount of 'hold the lift please' will have any effect.
  5. Trouble is, UK Doc M requirements are to my mind, more comprehensive than ADA Bathroom requirements so whilst the drop down bar is required to meet UK regs., it is not a requirement for US ADA bathroom layouts. Whether Cunard adopt Doc M or ADA remains to be seen,
  6. Generic cruise ship nonsense is a tad unfair. The 'Lido' on QA [it will always be 'the Lido' for us] works well hygiene wise and is OK apart from the salad selection needs to be improved and the buffet on the one and only Celebrity ship I've sailed on beats all Cunard buffets into a ***** hat so just maybe, the nonsense part is imaginary. Edit The site automatic word police can't spell. The asterisked word has four letters, not five! 😄
  7. When and which ship? We have had at least half a dozen cruises post Covid and 23/24 have been register cruise card at muster station on embarkation and watch the safety video in the cabin.
  8. Not having been around in 1934, I wouldn't know anything about vintage loos! I was just glad the loo was separate to the shower/bath in a Vista Q4/3 and gave a modicum of privacy at times. As to cramped, we considered ourselves very lucky to travel in such comparative luxury many times until we climbed the Q ladder. Guess we were easily pleased.
  9. We had that cabin booked for one of our ill fated Covid cancelled cruises. A perfect Q3. Above the library [quiet] and an extended balcony so you'll have sun [depending on itinerary] and shade. What's not to like! 🙂
  10. I have many photos of Cunard QE2, Sagafjord and Vistafjord in the 80s and 90s from my parent's worldies, including one of them sleeping on deck of Sagafjord after fire broke out and crippled the ship. One thing I do know, I wouldn't want to sail on them today. Give me modernity over nostalgia any day.
  11. Not sure myself what it means other than Blackpool is most definitely not known for its sophistication.
  12. Apparently, Q3s are slightly larger but we couldn't tell the difference. The position merited the 3 rather than 4 as far as we were concerned.
  13. I can't comment on wall soundproofing as we had no problem but as far as the 'stack' is concerned, we were out on deck 11 in all weathers [I'll bring a hot water bottle on any more Northern trips] and experienced NO issues from the funnel at all. That's four weeks worth of deck 11 so far.
  14. No apologies needed. Just making sure us less than spring chicks got our oars in! 😀
  15. My hurdling was superb. The wheelchair got in the way of any attempt by my husband! 🙁
  16. Or buy masks from the Mighty River. Cheap and cheerful although I think we overspent at around £4.50 ea although this IS Cunard! 🙂 Our masks were worn for all of ten mins then consigned to the suitcase never to be worn again.
  17. 'Special needs' is so darned wide a remit now it's very worthwhile reading up on the Cunard website about it all. Sprain a big toe and need a walking aid isn't too far off the mark for filling in the form or at least reading up on it.
  18. I don't know about 'of a certain age' as we're no spring chickens and we had a great time but then, we didn't expect a QV/QE experience and went with the flow. Could have done without the Lift Paralympics but that's a personal issue and no reflection on the ship as a whole.
  19. Def. My daily addition is 'brown sauce' for my bacon and eggs! 🙂 and when I forget, the butler doesn't so I get it anyway. I've stopped asking for jam doughnuts as I started getting them every day with the breakfast order and I am SO weak willed, I ate them! ☹️
  20. must add this was in QG and I have a plate of S.S. as a lunch order occasionally. No idea if it's available elsewhere apart from the Lido/buffet/Kings Court etc. Don't ask, don't get so worth an ask.
  21. Two coils with scrambled eggs on our QA room service menu and you're quite right. A decent amount. No harrumphing [love that word] required. When we breakfasted in the restaurant, if I asked for a plate of S.S., I'd get enough to feed an army. Not asked for it on room service but I guess I could if I wanted.
  22. The majority of passengers ignore the Gala themes but it’s still expected chaps wear 'Gala Wear' which is a dark suit or what we call, Black Tie this side of the pond for the majority of the areas around the ship although, you won't be thrown out of the theatre etc if not in 'Gala Wear' or made to walk the plank if wandering around. Having a few Alaska cruises to our name but the last one being well over a decade ago, I shall be interested in 'Alaska Today'. Have fun and I hope Cunard exceeds expectations. Just don’t expect a plate of smoked salmon to be on the room service breakfast menu. It comes in a 'coil' atop a dollop of scrambled eggs! 😀
