  1. It is too bad that Princess doesn't rename the mini suites and get the suite out of the name. So many people think they get the suite perks and are disappointed. That happened to us on our first cruise. When I made the reservation, the company rep told us we were getting the suite perks. She even said we would be having dinner at the captain's table one night.

  2. EK &KK, and capriccio,

thanks you so much for posting your experiences. I know nothing major can be done until a dry dock and also about MUTS being the cause - people mentioned that ages ago but what I really wanted to hear was what you two wrote (well - not really) and have wondered what people have been told on Princess.

I figured nothing was done so I have very low expectations and to be honest - I am really pissed about this (we could be at some luxury resort for what we are paying for this cabin) and hope it doesn't spoil our long awaited vacation. I am going to do everything in my power to get out and enjoy other areas of the ship but my husband just likes to stay on the balcony and enjoy the view.

Would like to hear from others especially if you have had no soot issues in your aft suite.

    thanks again for posting

  3. Yes, Pat, I did see it and your post (sorry about your soot problems) but when I see posts like "According to the numerous posts in the numerous Royal bashing topics" I have been very hesitant to post and ask about the soot on the aft balconies, especially the corner suites. I know several others who are booked in the suites who paid a great deal of money for them and are frustrated because they, including me, can not find out any information about the soot problem. No one at Princess seems to know anything about the soot. They all say, "oh, we haven't heard anything". We cruise to relax and want to be alone and just enjoy the views from our balcony. It is too late for us to cancel our Christmas cruise but are afraid what we might find. We truly will go nuts if we can't use our balcony.

Everyone says they will be able to make corrections on the Regal to solve this issue but what about the people on the Royal.

Pat, Other than cleaning your balcony, did they offer any solutions for you?

I know cc members are a very small percentage of passengers on the ships and I feel sorry for people that have no idea what is going on. My expectations have gone way down.

I don't do Facebook but has there been any discussion about the soot on Princess's Facebook page. If so, what did they say?

  4. I was just on the 11/10 sailing and the balcony was unusable for the entire 7 days. We did not sit down on your balcony chairs once. We were on Riviera which is complete uncovered (but HUGE!) and we had soot on there constantly. Even after they cleaned it.

We had a group on our balcony for first sail away and one of the woman's white shirt had black dots all over it by the time we went inside.

That is terrible. Talk about putting a damper on your cruise. Did you go down to customer service and discuss it? What did they say?

Do they say anything about trying to solve the problem?

Bet they haven't had many balcony dinner requests.

  5. And I thought FLL's hotels were high in February but Miami is much worse during the show. Haven't booked our flights yet and didn't realize the Miami boat show starts a few days after we return from our cruise. So I figured it would be a good time to visit the boat show. We would like to stay fairly close but everything seems to be $399 or higher per night. Anyone know of something that won't break the budget? We don't need a real fancy place since we will be out most of the time but would like it near the water. We might as well stay another week on the ship - it would be cheaper.

Thanks so much for any help you can give me.

  6. I thought I posted here the other day but realized I posted on a different thread. I did book something but it will be over $200. Not much I can do and figured I better have something. I found out there is a medical conference with 4000 people coming on that Monday so I suppose many are coming the weekend before to relax. Their top four hotels listed are on 17th street so I guess that is why so many are listed as sold out.

  7. I did find a hotel - more than I had wanted to spend but not much I can do. I also found out there is a medical conference with 4000 attendees starting that Monday after so figure people will come early for the weekend. And The first four hotels listed for them are on 16th street so that is why so much is sold out.

    Thanks for all your help.

  8. Been searching hotels for the first week in February and I can't believe the prices. They are even higher than at Christmas. Is there something going on in town? I know the Miami boat show is the next weekend. Embassy suites is asking $299 and many are over $300. When you get in late and just need sleep, it kills me to pay that much. Anyone know of anything that is more reasonable? thanks for any help.
