  1. I’d like to see to carpet change on New Year’s Eve. It must be festive!
  2. I also appreciate the technical expertise shared here. We have come to meet so many nice crew and other staff on past cruises. Some recognize us on followup cruises. My thoughts are with all of them as they face economic uncertainty.
  3. Oceania announced today www.OceaniaCruises.com/Assurance
  4. The New York Times posted an article on life on the quarantined ship - https://www.nytimes.com/2020/02/06/world/asia/coronavirus-cruise-ship.html
  5. Perhaps this is a computer programming glitch. Someone who knows HAL’s organization should pass this recurring problem on to the proper Department. Maybe You will be rewarded.
  6. It was a challenge getting Guest Services to understand the problem.
  7. I should have thought of that. I was so upset after calling the restaurant, I stepped off the elevator, was not looking, and tripped on the base of a sculpture. I hurt my shin, had a minor cut on my knee and went to Medical Services for a bandage.
  8. In the end, everything worked out and we had a delicious first time dinner at Tamarind on the Koningsdam last month. BUT - - Prior to embarkation, I made an online reservation. And received an email confirmation. And my credit card was charged $50. - On the day of the reservation, we decided to change the date. So I called Tamarind, and was told that there was no record of the original reservation. But they made a new reservation for my preferred date. - As I was concerned about not being charged twice, I inquired at Guest Relations, and was told that indeed, yes, I had an original reservation, and it was rescheduled. - Though, I never received the original reservation reminder at my stateroom. And as I said, Tamarind claimed that it wasn’t in the system. I’m wondering if anyone has had a similar snafu.
  9. Great idea! This should be demonstrated at the muster drill!
  10. I always carry some hand sanitizer. I hope that the exercise room still has dispensers.
  11. I was just on the Konigsdam. i agree that it is a good second line of defense.
  12. As a borderline germophobe, I was disappointed to see that the dispensers were no longer outside the MDR. (Also removed from the Lido, which has the “sinks”.) I found them convenient and important. Was this a cost saving measure, or is there another method to this madness?
  13. I’m watching Larry David right now on Colbert. I can’t imagine him sharung wuth strangers.
  14. Can I request to share with strangers upon arrival?
  15. Thanks. What is the cancellation policy on restaurant reservations? Is table sharing allowed?

  17. ....on our upcoming 10 night cruise. There are 3 Sea Days.
  18. Did you try that great pancake restaurant across from the Marriott?
  19. Thank You for the reassurance. I love spicy food but want the missus to be happy. This will be our third HAL cruise, the first two were on the Nieuw Statendam. We declined Tamarind then because the revolving menus we saw were disappointing. But the new permanent one posted on CC seems wonderful. Prior to HAL, we sailed Oceania many times and loved Red Ginger. Any dessert recommendations?
  20. My wife is a fussy eater and we’re contemplating this venue for an upcoming Koningsdam cruise. She doesn’t like spicy dishes.
  21. We stayed post cruise last summer for 3 nights at the Amsterdam Marriott. It’s walking distance to museums and restaurants was perfect. (Pre cruise we opted for one night at the airport Hilton, for convenience)
  22. For our cabin deck, the time listed in the HAL letter is 3 PM. But we would prefer to board earlier.
  23. I was wondering if the listed times are only suggested. If passengers arriving early will have to wait.
  24. Thanks to the original poster for your thoughtful comments. And they resonate even more when I think about the extreme poverty I sometimes see minutes from the port. I have a haunting memory of seeing a child scavenging a trash can in Mexico. And ramshackle dwellings. But even seeing a family in a small Baltic port snapping photos of the ship made me think that they could only dream of taking such a trip. Juxtaposing that with overhearing a woman complaining to Guest Services about rough seas. ”Madame, we can’t control the Atlantic Ocean.”, was the reply she received.
