  1. The tour takes all day. The ruins are impressive and worth the time. The coastline at the ruins is beautiful. The info the guides give you at the ruins may or may not be true. Be sure to bring sunscreen. If you are prone to seasickness be sure to take your medication before you get on the boat that takes you to the mainland. They don't call it the "Vomit Comet" for nothing. Just a note to show my age: years ago you were allowed to climb the ruins.
  2. We have decided to cruise Princess for our next cruise because the food on Royal has fallen so far down in all venues. We are diamond plus, so we give up a lot to cruise Princess but we feel that Princess just tries a little harder and is a bit more creative in all aspects of dining. Their International Cafe is head and shoulders above the Promenade Cafe. Their MDR dessert are much more creative. The buffet offers much more variety and higher quality food.
  3. What does it matter? Do you think if they complained the food was going to improve instantly?
  4. The drug sniffing thing totally baffles me. It must be Carnival checking for drugs coming on board. I don't think the DEA or ICE cares about drugs leaving the country. Weird.
  5. Everyone feels safe until the bad thing happens. There are over 500 Americans missing in Mexico. When the cartels start shooting those soldiers and cops disappear, fearing retribution. Mexico is owned from the top down by the cartels.
  6. IMHO. The lobster Thermador was terrific. The lamb wellington was awesome. The beet salad was just plain pretentious and weird. The cheesecake dessert was good. All portions were small, about 1/2 MDR size.
  7. Chair hogging is a huge problem. 90% of the chairs with towels on them are unoccupied. I am glad they are doing something about this. Long past due.
  8. Sounds yummy. We did find out that they cannot make certain classic drinks that you would expect them to make. For example a grasshopper. A beautiful after dinner drink that my wife sometimes enjoys. They do not stock green creme de mint. Also a classic drink from way back in the 70's, a Harvey Wallbanger. The ship does not stock Galliano, the essential ingredient for the drink.
  9. No. Imagine you are at your local Applebee's. Can you be seated at the same table with complete strangers? No. Same situation.
  10. MTD is anything but. Royal cannot figure this out for the life of them. It is so broken. Just show up a bit before you would like to eat and hope for the best. It is a real clown show.
  11. In part, I can agree with the OP. Food, which used to be such an amazing part of cruising certainly has gone downhill on Royal Caribbean. Not just in the MDR. In every venue from the Promenade Cafe all the way to room service. We have booked a Princess cruise in hopes that it is better.
  12. Understandable. It eliminates food waste. How many people go to a land restaurant and order 2 entrées?
  13. I enjoy whatever Indian food is offered at lunch. Especially if Naan bread is offered also.
  14. It's US cash. If you can't figure out how to use them, send them my way
  15. Pelligrino on ice with lime. I quit drinking alcohol 40 years ago. I'm not against alcohol, its just not for me.
  16. We have done that cruise. Only thing that was required in port was cash. Lol. Have a great cruise.
  17. I do not know what night it is but on Mexican night, do not walk but run to specialty dining. Cruise ships, regardless of line, are absolutely clueless as to how to make Mexican food. Which is quite funny considering how much time they spend in Mexico. It is not difficult to prepare delicious Mexican food. I don't know where they get their recipes from or who teaches them but every, and i mean every dish they serve is so far off the mark, it is actually comical. Save yourself the grief and go to Chops or to anywhere besides the MDR.
