Cool Cruiser

Cool Cruiser (2/15)

  1. Gilgorm, you asked what I ended up using. We just returned yesterday from the cruise. We really didn’t have any of the rough seas that previous cruisers in December had experienced. Six of the seven nights I did take a fourth of a Bonine at bedtime. I never had any issues. And maybe I wouldn’t have even if I didn’t take it. I was going to stop taking it after the third night, but then the fourth night I decided to have an Irish coffee at dinner and I figured that fourth of a Bonine would help me sleep and counteract the caffeine. I ended up having an Irish coffee each night for the rest of the cruise and the quarter of one Bonine. It was a great option for me. I don’t take sleeping pills… I wonder how Bonine compares to sleeping pills, as far as whatever it is in sleeping pill that isn’t supposed to be good for you. I wouldn’t make a habit of it, but on the rare occasion that I need a little more energy at night, I like that it’s an option… after the coffee. In my party of 28, nobody complained of motion sickness on this cruise. A couple people did wear a patch, though.
  2. Thanks for ALL the wonderful tips! I should have taken my Bonine last night as we board Harmony tomorrow! I’ve been so busy packing & getting ready it slipped my mind. The Zyrtec/Cetirizine suggestion is interesting, too. I did see someone post that on a recent cruise the ship ran out of the “free” motion sickness meds usually available. Glad I bought my own. I also have Zofran…which hopefully I won’t need but glad I have.
  3. What have you found works for you while cruising? I know people really like the patch. I don’t. I have used the pressure point stretchy bracelets. They are easy and I think helps somewhat. Bonine non drowsy…even 1/4th of a tablet knocks me out if I take it during the day. But on past cruises I’ve taken that amount each night. Just looking to hear others experiences…our cruise is Sunday out of Galveston on Harmony. Thanks!
  4. Sailingduo, thanks so much for all your help!
  5. Sailingduo & Phillyfan33579, thank y’all so much for the info!! I just got on and signed up for my father. Although it asked me to pick a time for the first day. Do you have to make reservations each day??? thanks!
  6. Sailingduo, thanks for the info!! How much is a weeks pass at the thermal suites? Was it very crowded? thanks !!!
  7. My dad spends every afternoon working out then using a sauna/steam room. 7 days a week! Where/how can he do this? Is the only option using the Thermal Suite? Does the men’s locker room not offer anything similar? How do you book the Thermal Suite? I can’t find it on the app. We sail on Harmony this Sunday. Hope it’s not too late? Thanks!!
  8. Gardener5b, so sorry that happened to y’all! I’m glad to hear that y’all were well taken care of. I’m wonder…were you in a suite? I heard that at one point, only people in suites were able to get food from the MDR. One more question. Is there anything you wish you had packed that might have made quarantining a little bit easier? Thanks SO much for sharing your experience!
  9. I’m sorry… I should have been more clear! I meant what are the protocols if you get sick. I know they aren’t requiring masks or testing anymore. I was just wondering if you test positive what are the protocols & procedures that the ship follows. firefly333…we will be on Harmony, too. And this was the ship that I saw the review were so many people were talking about testing positive. I guess it’s a vicious cycle… Passengers have it, the crew gets it, and pass it back to others. Thanks for any info you may learn… although I can only imagine that Royal’s protocols would be the same on all ships. Thanks!
  10. I was reading a very recent review about a ship that my family will be on in a week, and there were SO many comments about people getting sick the last day or two, or once they got off the ship…testing positive for flu and or Covid. Fingers and toes crossed, we won’t have to deal with that, but I would like to hear from some recent cruisers that have had this unfortunate experience. What are the current protocols? I imagine it might be different than what was going on a year ago. So I’m hoping recent cruisers can respond. (For instance, I remember hearing that they will bring you food, but not from the dining room… so very little variety.) Are you quarantined in their medical facility? Do you stay in your cabin? What about the person traveling with you? Do they provide any medication you might need or would it be best to bring your own? Just trying to plan ahead…but hope it won’t be needed!
  11. More free afternoon “indoor” activities…like a movie in the Royal Theater, afternoon matinee of the musical/show, interesting lectures and free crafting sessions.
  12. SO many great tips!! Thanks so much!! (And keep them coming!)
