  1. My wife and I are looking into doing a European river cruise with her sister who is a single lady!  In order to do this trip we are going to have to find those  cruise lines which reduce or waive single supplement charges!!  Any experiences along this line you would like to share would be appreciated!

    Regards, Whitetrike

  2. Did the Big Bus on June 1st and really enjoyed the trip to Anchorage.  The bus was comfortable, the driver professional and the "tour guide" entertaining while giving us the rundown on what we were passing.  The sixty miles passed very quickly, would highly recommend this service!

  3. Just finished that cruise on June 1st...was very happy to have been in a starboard balcony stateroom.  The scenery is spectacular!  So much so we didn't turn the television on the entire cruise!  Enjoy your cruise!!

  4. My wife and I sailed on the Regal on 11 November last year which was Veterans Day.  They had a moving tribute program in the theater which honored all branches of ALL nations that were involved in war over the last 100years!  There was also a get-together with a champagne toast for ALL Veterans of ALL services from ALL nations that was a lot of fun as each of us introduced ourselves, our service branch and era served!  Does anyone who is familiar with Princess celebrations know of a Memorial Day observance on board their ships at sea on the 27th!

  5. This is a second posting of my question as I'm not sure what response I'd get on FB!!! DW and I board the Royal on Saturday for our Alaska cruise!! In all the reading I've done about the Ocean Medallion I have not seen IF it is "water-proof" or "water-resistant! We do plan to use the hot tubs and maybe even the pools and want a functional medallion afterward! Is it safe to wear the medallion while hot tubing or swimming??

I second this opinion.  I'll even add that it is not uncommon, at all, to see people (OK, it's always a guy.) wearing shorts--they, usually, don't last very long on the promenade deck, though.  😁

Personally, on sea days I, usually, wear long-sleeved T-shirts for breakfast or hanging around in the afternoon.  I have a limited supply, however.  So, when I send them out to be laundered, I am comfortable in a short-sleeved shirt.  When we go to dinner, I usually wear a long-sleeved collared shirt or a pull-over sweater with slacks.

I really don't know if any of this is helpful, however.  What is comfortable for me, may not be comfortable for somebody else.

Thanks for your response XBGuy.  What you mentioned is similar to how I plan to dress.  My wife however may require heavier"cold weather" clothes as she doesn't usually enjoy cooler temperatures!!  It looks like the weather will be warmish the week we're in Alaska with daytime temperatures forecast into the low 60s.  I'm looking forward to that!

  7. My wife and I will be boarding the Royal on the 25th for our first Alaska cruise!!! Can't wait to get started.  Along that line, I'd like to ask if anyone on board  now would be kind enough to post the Patters here so those of us yet to cruise could get some idea of what we can look forward to! I much appreciate the effort and time it would take to do this!

    Kind regards,  Whitetrike

  8. DW and I are starting to gather clothes to pack for our May 25th cruise on the Royal to Alaska.  The question of the temperature in public areas of the ship such as dining rooms and theater came up.  We are not usually bothered by feeling cool or cold in most situations.  Is a long sleeved shirt or light jacket usually needed while away from your cabin while aboard?

  9. I've had  difficulty with the Ocean Ready app like you!!   I was able to get in touch with the Princess Ocean Navigators by phone to learn exactly when and how I could get signed up.  If you want to get correct information their contact phone number is 1-844-525-0942!  I am not sure they are available on weekends.

  10. Most of the sites I've looked for Skagway excursions on mention how "walkable" the area around the cruise port is!  My wife and I have the White Pass rail trip scheduled for late May....but we're hoping there is time left afterwards to walk the area near the cruise port!  Have a great trip, whatever you decide to do in Skagway!

  11. I'm booked on the May 25th Royal Princess cruise to Alaska. I've tried three times to get "Ocean Ready" to no avail.
After spending 30+ minutes on the phone with a Princess TA and an Ocean Ready "specialist" i was still unable to log into the Ocean Ready app! Here is the email response I got tonight from the Ocean Ready Navigator Support crew:

    Good afternoon,

Thank you for contacting Princess Cruises regarding the issue you encountered with our OceanReady App.
While we can confirm that the Royal Princess will be 100% a MedallionClass ship at the time of your sailing, unfortunately your voyage hasn’t been entered into our OceanReady systems yet.
Once we load the information we will send out an email with an invitation to become OceanReady. Once you receive that email, feel free to login to your account and add the reservation.

This update SHOULD answer many questions for those booked on the Royal Princess and maybe other Princess ships having difficulty getting "Ocean Ready"!!!

  12.    My wife and I are really hooked on the Club Class Mini Suite concept that Princess Cruises has!!  We've taken one cruise on the Regal and have an Alaska cruise booked for May on the Royal!  My question is about the other cruise lines.  Do any of you experienced cruisers  know if any other lines have similar programs? We especially enjoy/need the priority boarding/debarkation and the Club Class dining room! We also like the larger cabins with their balconies.  Any information or comments will be appreciated!

    Hi Whitetrike,

We were on the Regal back in November and at that time they offered a stretch class and an intro to Yoga class,  usually in the A.M. on sea day. I think the intro to Yoga class was extra $$, but the stretch class was free.

They have plenty of mats and a nice work out space if you just want to do your own thing. I never saw a meditation class.

Enjoy the Royal, we were on her November of 2017. The buffet is AMAZING.

I too was on the Regal in November (11th), they did have a yoga class scheduled but cancelled due to only 2 signing up! 😡  I may have to think about doing my own "on-deck" yoga session if the early morning weather is warm enough!  Thanks for your comments!

  14. I'll be taking my first Royal cruise in May to Alaska. I have started a wellness program of yoga and meditation I would like to continue while on board. I can not find any schedule of either yoga or meditation classes. Does anyone have knowledge of recent offerings or suggestions where I can look to find this information!  Thank you for your input!

How does the unit make a water vapour if it doesn't heat the water?

Many newer diffusers and humidifiers are "ultrasonic"!!  They do not heat the liquid whether it is an oil or just water!

  16. Do you have a specific cabin number??  If you do I suggest you look above and below it on the deck plan!  This way you may be able to avoid noise and crew/service areas.  I have been on the Regal, Royal's sister ship in a deck 14 midships cabin that was quiet and calm which made for a great cruise!  Good luck with your decision!

  17. Here is another excursion for you to look over....https://wpyr.com/  White Pass scenic railway is a narrow gauge rail trip that follows some of the "gold rush" era trails up an impressive mountain.  My wife and I will be doing this outing in late May,  I sure hope the weather cooperates as I expect some world class scenery!!

  18. On the Regal Princess in November last year DW and I had an unlimited minutes package for up to 4 devices.  The first day service was "off-and-on". From day two onward service was always available. Our total cost was $59.99.  As others have mentioned there is wide variation in packages, costs, and sometimes service levels from ship to ship and location to location!

  19. My wife and I will be doing our first cruise to Alaska in May.  Our port days will be in Skagway, Ketchikan, and Juneau.  The cruise ends in Anchorage!  Are there any restaurants in these cities that serve "real" Alaskan foods like bear, moose and caribou.  Happy  They would be most interesting additions to our lists of exotic food eaten on our travels!  We'd be interested hearing about experiences and/or suggestions!  Thanks!

  20. Sailed on the regal in early November with a prepaid package for up to 4 devices with UNLIMITED minutes!! Was great when the internet itself was running right.  The first day and a half out of FLL it was hit and miss!  We have a Royal cruise to Alaska booked for late May, all that is available now is up to 600 minutes.  TA from Princess told me to wait until closer to sailing to book any package as the line may add new options.  Sure hope they do just that!

  21. My wife and I will finish our Royal Princess cruise in Whittier the first of June!  Travel agent said we should be off the ship around 10:00 a.m. even though port arrival is posted at 12:30 a.m.!  Does Princess require passengers to remain aboard that long after arrival?   Secondly, what is the easiest transfer to book to Anchorage.  We will not be able to check into our downtown hotel until 4:00 p.m. so we are in no real rush!  You comments and/or suggestions will be appreciated!

    Smooth sailing,   Whitetrike
