  1. It is interesting to note that on Celebrity Cruises, (sister cruise line), they treat you like adults. Towels are available in numerous locations for the taking, no sign outs. They often have them placed on all the chairs arould the pool in the early mornings. Celebrity treats you like adults.

RCCL just uses the sign-out of towels as a money making scheme IMHO.

  2. Thanks Bob and Setsail. I am familiar with RCCL pulling this stuff! They have done it for years to prevent us from using our Stockholders benefit. If we did not have a large amount of OBC available to us from our CC. (set to expire at the end of the year), We would probably start looking at other cruise lines or venues for our vacation money. It seems to me that the major cruise lines are "in a rush to the bottom" to see which can outdo the other in deceptive cruise pricing.

  3. We have a long-standing booking on Harmony of the Seas for Oct 20, 2018 in an Owners Suite.

I periodically check the RCCL website for any price reductions, and, when I find one I call my TA to try and get the reduction for us. This morning, I found a significant reduction. The price for the Owners suite went down by by $912.72 for our cruise. I called our TA, who unfortunately, was out of office on vacation. She won't be back until the 12th--next week.

I talked with another agent at her office and she went to bat for us with RCCL. She E-mailed me that she was able to get the reduction for us and sent us a new invoice.

Unfortunately, according to the new agent, RCCL said that our Diamond+ discount of $250.00 was not applicable or combinable under the terms of this "sale". They removed the Diamond+ $250.00 which still resulted in a net price reduction for the booking of $662.72. This is still a nice reduction; but I always thought that the Diamond+ discount was combinable with ALL offers!

Is this another case of HUACA? I think that I will wait until next week and call my regular TA and have her find out the straight dope.

What would you fine folks suggest?

  4. Furthermore, if RCCL changes the rules (They would never do that!!!) You can always take a cash out at the casino. You will have to pay 5%

(I believe) charge to do that, however, you would still get back 95% of the remaining. It has often been said that you can also go to Guest Services on the last evening and request cash out. We have always had our remaining balance OBC refunded to our credit card; no problems.

  5. The machines are activated with a cup that has an RFID chip in the base.

The Hi-C and Minute Maid you see on the pictures above is included but it is not Minute Maid juice, it is lemonade and sugar free lemonade. There is also Vitamin Water and Powerade in the machines too.

I have seen a "hack" (literally!) A kid smashed his cup and removed the RFID chip from the bottom of the smashed cup, he then attached it to a plastic card similar to a Seapass card and used that to activate the machine, beats having to carry the cup around all of the time.

  6. First time posting on this board. Last Christmas, I decided I had to do something about my weight. I had ballooned up to 335# (6 ft 2in), and I could not tie my own shoes or walk out to the mail box and back without being seriously winded. I was wheezing, Doctor said I had metabolic syndrome and had to lose weight! DW and I decided we would do this together and we started Nutrisystem 100 days ago. The food is alright, some is delicious. I am on 1500 calories a day and sometimes don't even eat that much. I am 73 and walk most days.

I have to say I am proud of myself! I have lost 54 pounds in the last 100 days!:D

We are cruising in October on Harmony and I am trying to get down to 225.

  7. One slight drawback to deck 7 locations on Oasis Class ships. At the main (rear) elevator banks, there is no crossover from the starboard to the port side. On the other decks, you can simply cross over and use the other elevators on either port or starboard side of the ship.

On deck 7, the crossover path is not there as they had to leave it out to allow for the windows and signage for the entrance to the Boardwalk that is one deck down on deck 6.

  8. I do all of my own research, decide on the date and ship and cabin category. Then I book direct with the cruise line for any included perks. Once I have my booking number, i then call my travel who is located in another state. I give her the information as to booking number, dates ship, and cabin number. She arranges a transfer of the booking to her agency and gives us substantial OBC for the booking. All that is left to do, (usually) is make the final payment arrangements with the TA and get packed for our cruise.

  9. Watch the prices carefully! When they run this "promo", they usually increase the price for the first person, while "discounting" the second person. The end result is the price is still about the same as it was before the "promo"

When pricing a cruise, look at the final total cost, including cruise, taxes, gratuities, insurance, travel transportation, etc. That is IMHO the only way to accurately price the cost of your cruise.

  10. We have found, that if you leave the wooden cabinet door open, (door on the front of the refrigerator cabinet), that the little refrigerators cool much better. You just have to try not to run into them at night, in the dark, when going to the loo.

Refrigerators are heat pumps, pumping the heat from inside of the refrigerator to the outside. Unfortunately, RCCL has put the refrigerators in little wooden boxes (cabinets) that make removal of the heat difficult.

On Oasis and Allure, they unfortunately attached the wood doors to the outside of the refrigerator door, with a plastic strap. This trick won't work in that case.

  11. It is my understanding that the requirement for the enhanced drivers license/WITI compliant ID has been waivered until Oct 2020. That said, the new Enhanced Drivers License' in Arkansas (the ones with the star on them ) will be compliant with all of the requirements of REAL ID when it finally (if ever) goes into effect. (Remember the great conversion to the metric system back in the '70s... It didn't happen.)

  12. We always book starboard side. After 26 cruises, we would probably get lost if our cabin was on port side!

We usually book deck 8 for the reasons outlined by a previous poster. If we cannot get deck 8 then we go for deck 11. If you can, snag a cabin that is close to the aft elevators (also known as midship elevators) It can be a long walk up or down the hallway if you are too far removed from those elevator banks.
