4 days until the Conquest!

Nothing decent let alone average. Something, sometimes off Shipwreck Beach Bar, but subject to cloudy sand conditions in the sea. Warning - Fire Coral
Is Shipwreck Beach the one with black sand? And what on earth is fire coral???? Sounds horrible!

This is my husband and my first time to St Kitts. We bring our own snorkeling gear and are wondering the best beach to visit for snorkeling.
Thanks in advance for any info you can give me!

Has anyone been to Marigot, lately? We will be there the week of the 21st of January. We didn't visit Marigot in January of 2017 & really want to this time. How much is open/rebuilt? Thanks in advance for any info!

I am not sure about St. Maarten but St. Kitts has been open. They had 7 ships in port last Friday.
I read that Carnival wasn't returning to either until January. I believe other cruise lines may be there, now. I could be wrong, but that's what I recall.
-
Both of these ports will open back up in January. We are heading to both on our January cruise. I would wait until a couple of ships have visited there and then check the reviews. You'll have a better idea of the condition of the beaches and other activities. Also, Orient Beach has two sides... to the left is a 'normal' beach, and to the right it is a nude beach. There is a huge sign reminding you, so no worries.

So entertaining! I'm loving your review! and you are so beautiful! Cruising definitely agrees with you!

How thick is her hair? The blow dryers the ships provide aren't really powerful, but they work well enough for my short hair. I'm all about bringing the least amount of 'stuff' I can. Also, it's usually pretty humid and many people find their hair just frizzes out, anyway. I wouldn't worry about straightening it except maybe for formal night photos. Then again, that's just my $.02.

Yup. Carry it on so you have more $$$ for other things. It's just too expensive to buy on board.
-
I've sailed on 5 ships and yet to see a package. It would sure make it easier to budget for photos!
-
100 days! Tomorrow I will officially be in double digits. I can hardly wait. I figure once I'm in double digits, packing is allowed, right?

The hotel was featured on Hotel Impossible a few years ago. Then after the initial airing, there was a follow up story, and the hotel was still poorly managed.
Other than that, the Bamboo Tiki Bar is a good place for drinks and beach / bar food ... burgers, etc.
So, I'm wondering what "Poorly managed" means. It's for one night and we basically need a clean place to sleep and shower. I guess I'd better check out some recent reviews. Thanks for letting me know.

Haven't stayed there myself, but have heard about it from family members who did stay there a few years ago. I personally would not stay there. It was so bad they still talk about it!

Hmmmm, do you know what was bad about it? We were so excited as it's right on the beach!
-
Yes, we stayed there at least 8 years ago. We enjoyed because they were condos not a "hotel room". It's on a busy street, but then we were able to walk and enjoy weather.
Thanks so much!

has anyone ever stayed here? I've booked a room for January 19th 2018, the night before our cruise. I'd love any feedback at all. Thank you! Never cruised out of Ft Lauderdale, before.

284 until my 8 day on the Conquest! This will be my first time in St Kitts!
-
Ice bucket kept filled and service twice a day. It's always been done for us, even though this year, in January, we were offered Morning service OR Evening....I just said both and it wasn't a problem.

I am sailing on the Conquest January 20, 2018. I was on the Sunshine this January. I'm not too worried about bells and whistles. My concern is the ports and the price! Flying from Montana to Florida costs almost as much as the cruise. I'm happy on ANY cruise, but am looking forward to the new Serenity Deck, as the one on the Sunshine is amazing! A cruise is what you make it.

Hubby and I will be in St. Thomas on January 25th, 2017 aboard the Sunshine. It looks like there will be 4 ships in port that day. We get in at 8am and are there until 6pm, so we have plenty of time. We mostly want to snorkel and I've heard that both Sapphire and Magen's Bay are excellent for snorkeling, even tho there are rocks at Sapphire; not a problem. As a diabetic, I am wondering if there is available food to buy at both locations? Your original post was in 2014, and I know things change.
We don't want to buy an excursion and only have a couple of hours to be at the beach. We'd rather catch a bus or a taxi and stay as long as we want. So...everyone...what's your opinion? Best option for snorkeling, food availability, and ease of transportation?
Thanks!

119 days, 22 hours, and 28 minutes!!! Can't wait to sail on the Sunshine!:D

Hi, I was there in January and am headed there again in January 2017. We just walked around Old San Juan and visited the numerous locally owned shops. You'll also find the expected standbys like Del Sol, but we did find some there that we didn't find in any other ones. They also have a Coach Factory Outlet which I was happy about since we don't have one in Montana.
We bought our lunch from a food truck. You most likely will need to be able to order in Spanish. I stumbled my way through it, but the locals were supportive.
The architecture, cobblestone streets, and beautiful colors are wonderful to see in OSJ so you should enjoy your day!

It sounds like we are sailing the same day! (Jan. 9th) What ship are you on? I'm sailing on the Glory.
