We will be there twice in Nov on a Wonder b2b.  While I had a knee and ankle injury 5 years ago and my knee gets stiff and sore, I can walk the length of the pier and have all but our first time back there after my injury when we went back in 2021 after restart.  But, there are plenty of people who can't do the walk even if they appear they could because they don't use a walker or wheelchair.

So they will have easier time getting on tram than if they compete with everyone else.

OK, I watched the Ovation sailing.  19 menus.  Day 13 dining says "Venue Closed".  Day 13 starts at midnight, the ship crosses the dateline at 2AM, and it's suddenly "Day 14".

About the menus, all unique, the usual 14 named menus and 5 unnamed delights.

     I just opened

    1. Welcome Aboard

    2. Beyond the Sea

    3. A Taste of France

    4. A Taste of USA

    5. A Taste of Asia

    6. A Taste of the World

    7. A Taste of the Caribbean

    8. Beyond the Sea

    9. A Taste of the Caribbean

    10 Beyond the Sea

    11. A Taste of Italy

    12  A Taste of Mexico

    13  ?????

    14 A Taste of UK

    15. Royal Night

    16 Beyond the Sea

17 A Taste of Royal History

    18 A Taste Mediterranean

    19 Bon Voyage

Beyond the Sea  are all different so I guess they just put this random name instead of nothing

    Still 14 menus

This policy is insane- My DH and I are seniors- in our 70's while we aren't deemed handicapped, on our last cruise stopping in Nassau- the walk to the pier was horrible for us- the heat made it very difficult- How can the cruise line deny Seniors a ride on the tram?  They need more trams- to accomodate the passengers.

Issue is not that it’s not enough trains, but rather safety. People walk and trains run on the same pier. They will have trains, but maybe less and for people who really need them.

What happens on other islands where there are no trains? There are many of them?

It would be very awkward to have to wear your handicapped parking placard around your neck to avail yourself of handicapped services. 😁 And besides, what would your poor parked car do if you had your placard with you instead of hanging it in the vehicle? 🤷‍♀️

This is just an example of course. I have no idea how and if they will check, but at least most people without disabilities won’t try to use trams.

While RCI may not be bound by the provisions of the American's With Disabilities Act, they are bound by the incredible bad press this would give them if the news got out that they were 'cherry picking' which disabilities were 'worthy' of receiving help.

Americans with disabilities usually have documents to prove they are disabled.
So I suppose something like this could be used. Although imho it’s done so less people who don’t have disabilities use trams. We used it once just to check out. We wouldn’t attempt if it was declared only for people with disabilities. Maybe because people who don’t need tram are using it disabled people must wait longer?

    Huh???

I’ve visited Labadee about 6-7 times.

It’s fenced and secured area. A private resort. Geographically it’s in Haiti, but only geographically. Would you consider visitig country/place if your ship is docked there, and you are on the ship? Visiting Labadee is pretty close.

Like I mentioned previously, I have been on over 60 RCI cruises since the restart and I have never heard or seen anything written about this alleged rule. It if is or was a rule, hopefully someone can post a copy of the menu, an e-mail from RCI, or some other document showing this rule.

We were on 19 since restart. We always use MTD so each featured multiple waiters. We were told by various waiters. In nice manner. Lately warningss stopped

I would call it personal experiences that were very different from my experiences. I don’t doubt certain waiters were telling a small number of passengers they could only order one entree at a time, but RCI has never had a rule stating you could only have one entree at a time, at least as long as I have been cruising on RCI.

We were familiarized with this rule on multiple ships and by multiple waiters as we do multiple cruises a year on various ships.

Definitely wasn’t post COVID. There has not been any rule about only one entree at a time in the MDR since cruising resume. Either that or every waiter I have had in the MDR on over 60 cruises post COVID has not followed this alleged rule.

It was actually introduced with new menus last year. And  in the beginning it was enforced pretty well.

No - you will likely get assigned to one of the two venues on deck 4 (deck 3 is used for traditional) upon arrival at the host podium.

    Yes,

    No.

Correct. American Icon Grill or Silk. Although on occasion they sent us to he of 3rd floor restaurants.Chic or Grande.  Sometimes they had more available seats there.

I missed dynamic dining with various cuisines

I usually don't order 2 entrees but last month on Liberty of the Seas I did it twice in the MDR. Both nights I ordered an entree of a type of steak and I wasn't sure if it was going to be some thin type of leather I couldn't eat. So, I ordered Bolognese as a backup. They wouldn't bring the Bolognese until I was finished with the steak. The first bite had me finished with the steak and I had to wait for the waiter to come around to tell him I was finished and then had to wait a lengthy time for it to come from the kitchen. Used to be they would just have it on a tray to the side covered...nope. By the time I got the Bolognese everyone was long done with their dinner.

We cruised on Liberty in September and my husband ordered two entrees several times. Water asked if it was OK to bring them together.

It of course remains to be seen how that develops over time.  But there likely could be revenue derived from the other lines who continue to make Costa Maya a port of call.  Similar perhaps to Carnival's investment in Turks and Caicos.

Unless it is some sort of emergencies Royal Corp and NCL corp ships do not stop in Turks and Caicos. Only Carnival umbrella

AMEN!!!  Exactly what I was thinking!!!!!  They're turning this port into a version of their new mega ships, which we don't care for.  We really enjoy CM as it is - good port to just walk around if you don't care to venture out.  Love seeing the aviary and the dolphins, too. I also hate to see these local vendors shut down.  We'll stop at CM during our next three PCL cruises. I guess we'll just enjoy it while we can.  😢

Have you been to this port before?

If you thin it is a authentic Mexico please watch videos. Even 20 years ago it was clearly a  place adapted to cruise passengers. In 2018 and 2021 when we visited it it was even more so.

If they add more loungers and a buffet nobody will die for sure.

    I agree also.

    Take Falmouth for another example.

People think that authentic is always good. 🙂

Well... in poor countries it is good in at least somewhat developed areas.

But many are even afraid of Nassau now when it is pretty well developed. At least downtown.

Falmouth? It is good to catch a taxi to MoBay. 🙂

Not necessarily because it is scary, although you may get unpleasant feelings, but it is clearly run-down and not interesting aside from a church.

I guess I should book a cruise that stops there soon so I can see what the "real" Costa Maya looks like before being replaced by the fake one.

    🙂

Real Costa Maya port  is a CRUISE PORT  (developed  specifically for cruisers even 20+  years ago) with stores, large pool with swim up bar, flamingo, large parrots... dolphin shows so cruisers who do not want to face real Mexico (o pay for excursions) can spend a day there. There is no real Costa Maya as real Mexico

. You can wander beyond, take taxi to Mahahual tow, take excursions to other places, I think you can rent a car.

But that will not be seeing a real Mexico in port itself.
