  1. Hi All,

First time on Celebrity, how best to check in, do I check in myself first and then my wife.  App vs laptop?

I would like the earliest embarkation time, any suggestions to speed up my check in so I get the first available check in. Do I need to take my picture before I can choose a check in time.

  2. Hi,

I will say we have made a 10:30 flight at FLL from the POM.  We were glad we made it, but it put added stress to the end of vacation.  That being said have a back up plan for all the reasons stated in threads concerning this topic.  The shuttle driver has told us I-95 can bogged down at any moment.  You can be delayed getting into port.  Customs can back up and the lines at TSA can take hours to clear.

FYI, we also made a 10:45 flight MCO from Port Canaveral...

  3. The comedy show venue is surprisingly small for the amount of cruisers on board.  I suggest making reservations for them.  The standby line is long.  I also suggest making reservations for the first water show.  This is a great show and bad weather will cause them to cancel.  This will give you opportunity to see another showing later in the cruise.

I booked all shows ahead of time and adjust/cancel when on board.

The UBP is almost always free with every booking... for the first two in a cabin.

They are simply allowing you to pay $29/person/day to upgrade that further for a "premium" experience... which includes drinks over $15 and water and coffee. Personally, I wouldn't do it. There's plenty of coffee on the ship for free and I never felt the need for a bottle of water.

As for the drinks over $15... NCL only charges you the extra amount plus tax and tip over $15 anyways. So, to get my monies worth out of the $29/day, I'd need to drink more than five $21 drinks per day... for 7 days... or 35 drinks.

I'm sure I could easily accomplish that... but I can easily stick to the cheaper spirits for free as well.

I wish the package is free, you pay a higher price for the cabin with pkg vs. w/o.  There will be a breaking point and it is coming sooner than later.  Holland is now experimenting with charging for second main course.  It will all go ala carte or purchasing meal plans like at Disney.  They want predicable revenue and this is the way to do it

Yea, that's more than the cruise fare itself per person in many cases. I'd love to see how many people have actually been foolish enough to pay for this .  That premium package drink would be like $4600 for my wife and I on my upcoming 15 day Panama Canal cruise for that package in theory ..... That's hilarious. LOL!

Great point - I always felt I was subsidizing the cost of others by buying the package for my wife and I, I really can't get my head around this price.

  6. LukeDawg leads a charmed life [emoji56]. There are so many ways those arrangements could have gone wrong: traffic and construction on any of the highways from Port Canaveral to MCO (I95/I4/US 417); construction and traffic at the airport; TSA check in which can be 5 minutes or an hour (speaking from experience).

You might make it 90% of the time but it’s a mess if you don’t.

Yes I agree, we consider all the potential bottlenecks, if we can get a 11:30 flight that gets us home at 5:30 I would take it every time. That flight can be anywhere between 10:30 and 1pm. Unfortunately the next flight gets us in at 9 pm or later so we take a chance if the only other option is around 10:30 or so. I agree TSA, customs, accidents, or late arrival all can happen.

  7. My husband and I are Carnival cruisers. We love the go, go, go FUN atmosphere. The first time we went on Princess we had a good time but the night life and activities seem to be lacking. We got a lot of sleep on this cruise as it seemed everyone went to bed by 8.

We booked a Thanksgiving cruise on Princess because it was over $500 cheaper for a better balcony cabin then on Carnival. I am trying to go in with a positive attitude but I am a bit nervous about the lack of night time activities. Wondering if I should have just paid the extra $500 and went with Carnival.

The first Princess cruise we took was a Pacific Coastal cruise. This one is a Mexican Riveria cruise. I heard the colder the cruise, the older the cruise (hence the lack of night time energy on the Pacific Coastal cruise). This one is a warmer destination so I am hoping there will be a younger (50's) crowd as we are going for my 50th birthday celebration!

Totally agree, going on our second Princess 11/24. Long time Carnival cruisers, done 4 Royal, 1 Princess, 1 NCL. My wife and I truly enjoyed the relaxed experience on Princess. Yes, they lack the night life and we will return to Carnival probably next year. We will continue to do all three for the foreseeable future

  8. Thanks for the replies- splitting us up on the reservation and then just switching rooms after is what we decided on.

Luke- did you purchase your drinks package ahead of time or on the ship? What was the pricing?

    Thanks!

I do not recall the cost if purchased on the boat, they do push the pkg a lot. I thought it was $59 plus 18%, don't hold me to this. You are also you are traveling during spring break so I do not know what the cost will be. I have paid less on Vision of the Seas so the cost can be ship specific.

If you want an early drink you can get beer and some liquors at the Café Promenade or Park Café or in the Main Dinning room.

Yes, keep looking at your cruise planner, if you received on board credit as part of your cabin, sometime it will post to your planner and you can use it for pre-cruise purchases. For my cruise the cost of the package went up and down for a couple of months. One day it was $50/person, another it was buy 1 get second 50% off (the price shown reflects discount for two, remember the planner knows how many +21 are in the cabin), another day it was 25% off. I think I saw all option 2-3 times. I bought mine at buy 1 get second at 50% off or $47 per person plus 18% service/tip or $388/person. My brother got his at $50 plus 18%. He was the only +18 in his cabin, so he did not get the promos like me.

Keep in mind if you buy it and later see a better offer, just cancel it and buy again at the new rate. I did that as well.

  10. What would be the pros and cons of having a Deluxe Balcony vs Balcony on the Royal Princess? Princess says 'some of the same amenities you find in a Mini Suite' -- what might those be?

If my wife is made at me I sleep on the sofa bed in the Deluxe Balcony or on a chair on a Regular Balcony
