  1. I have this issue if I sign into my Mariner account first (which currently shows no cruise history or bookings). Before signing into your account, try clicking on Manage My Cruise>Shore Excursions (under Build Your Experience) and sign in by booking number. I'm able to see my bookings that way.
  2. This was the case for our verandah cabin. High and to the right.
  3. Unfortunately a week late to save us from the ordeal a false positive caused us in Vancouver, but I'll take credit for this change because of the sarcasm laced email I sent to the CDC after we got home.
  4. They were only recommended on Nieuw Amsterdam on 29 May Alaska southbound. My estimation was about 30% did indoors. I only really know of one likely case because we happened to walk by a steward talking to a guest, asking how her husband was doing, with her saying he was feeling better and that she'd be able to see him when we got to Vancouver. There was the couple a few seats behind us on the White Pass that were constantly coughing, sneezing, and blowing/wiping their noses without wearing masks....
  5. UPDATE - a correction and other news for anyone interested My wife emailed the companies involved in the two different tests. First off, she found she had misunderstood that Bon Voyage Medical was related to CVM because Bon Voyage Medical also goes by BVM and I guess she misheard. Within 20 minutes of her emailing BVM, a manager called her. The manager told her she remembered her confirmation test. I guess the test results are quick, but the quoted 12-24 hours is to account for when BVM actually tests the sample. The manager told DW that she had ordered the test be expedited because she knew DW was trying to get home. The first pass was inconclusive, so she ordered it tested again immediately and it came back negative. DW was told they were "rooting for her" while waiting for the results, and also that 80% of positive antigen test results (administered by CVM) are confirmed positive by the BVM test. In the case of CVM, apparently they do provide information about quarantine hotels and other resources. It's all attached to the test result email when you test positive - the email we never received in the first place. Also, CVM is refunding us for the cost of DW's false positive test.
  6. I know, but I wish I could unload the stress, anger, and uncertainty this caused on someone that matters. I'm not going to do it to some poor call center worker whose day is filled with bad news.
  7. We booked this cruisetour in April of 2021, which was a second attempt at this as the first one in 2020 was cancelled. This wasn't our first cruise, but first with Holland America. It was me (49), my wife (45), and son (17). The first section is about the land portion, the second section regards the cruise itself, and the third about the nightmare that followed (which was not the fault of HAL). The one thing I should emphasize which does affect this review is that the weather was perfect. Temps in the 70's, no clouds until Ketchikan, and no rain until the Inside Passage. I. We did the Fairbanks-Denali-Anchorage tour which left Fairbanks on 27 May for points south. Getting from the airport to the hotel was as much of a breeze as it could be at 12:30am. They had people there to round up the HAL (and other cruise lines) guests and hand out packets and instructions. We eventually got to the Westmark around 1:30am which was the "darkest" it got at this time of year. The hotel itself was nice, but dated. We did not book any excursions in Fairbanks, but did the Museum of the North, Large Animal Research Station, Pioneer Park (mostly closed; opened over Memorial Day weekend), and walked around downtown on our own. The coach to Denali was nice. There were only 8 or 9 groups including us (mostly couples), so we could all stretch out. I also found out what I thought was the Alaska Range that we could see from Fairbanks was actually just the foothills. We stayed at the McKinley Chalet Canyon Lodge, which was nice, but also...temporary feeling? The closet was not attached to the wall and a mini fridge was just kind of sitting on the floor next to it. The McKinley Explorer was the highlight of the land portion and with the clear skies we could see Denali and Mount Foraker in all their glory. I will say that if you do a tour that only has the train between Denali to Talkeetna you're fine; the best portion of the train ride is that northern section. HAL roomed us (our smallish tour group) in the Sheraton Anchorage Hotel and Spa, while everyone else went to the Westmark. No idea why, unless it was overflow or something. The Sheraton was pretty good, but we did feel separated from Holland America in general with just a pick up time for the next morning. II. Our coach transfer from Anchorage to Whittier was fantastic. The riders were only the handful of us at the Sheraton, there was great scenery, and the driver was funny and informative. We were also the first bus to arrive in Whittier at around noon so going through the boarding process felt odd with nobody there. One thing that was troubling was that as we made our way through the boarding tunnel to the gangway a longish line of debarking passengers was moving past us in the other direction and they all had masks on. I assume they were the COVID positives and their families but why have them walk past embarking passengers? The Nieuw Amsterdam did not feel full; never a wait for an elevator and almost never a person in the elevator car when it arrived. I found out later there were ~1000 passengers (40% of capacity). Breakfast each morning on the Lido had all buffet stations open, as did lunch, but only international station was Asian (unless you count the taco/nacho and pasta station as international). We did dinner in Pinnacle Grill and Caneletto once each and MDR the other evenings. Overall service was good as was the food. The room steward(s) was not nearly as ubiquitous as other cruises, but we did meet ours and our verandah cabin (deck 7 port side forward) was always well maintained. The last day before debarkation everyone had to go to guest services and prove they had an ArriveCAN receipt. That was the only time we ever showed it to anyone (we weren't asked during embarkation but we showed it to the person checking our other docs and I couldn't tell by her reaction if we needed to or if she had forgotten to ask for it). We never had to show it to any actual Canadian. Debarkation went smoothly for us as we had a post cruise excursion before being transferred to the airport, but it looked like other people had some frustrations. Celebrity Eclipse and Serenade of the Seas debarked at the same time we did. Overall my wife and I are definitely fans of Holland America. We're pretty subdued so the more quiet nature of HAL was more "us" than the constant noise on Carnival or NCL. Our son enjoyed it too, but probably not as much. He plays in his HS jazz ensemble and also cello in the HS chamber orchestra so he liked BB King's and Lincoln Center. III. The nightmare. We arrived at the Vancouver airport a little before noon on 5 Jun. Our flight out was at 7:15pm and I had set up appointments with CVM to get COVID tested at 4:00. Found out as long as you had an appointment it didn't matter when you got in line so we did immediately. They tell you it'll be 30-40 minutes before you get your results emailed to you. After 40 minutes only my son and I had gotten our results (both negative). At the hour mark and no result for my wife we went over and asked about it. The person sent her back to talk to someone - ominous - where she was told she had tested positive and needed to self isolate immediately (1:30). She was told they do a confirmation test (CA$129 or so) but she would not get results for 12-24 hours. Then good-bye. No list of hotels that have quarantine rooms, nothing. If you test positive you are completely on your own. A call to HAL was answered by someone who only wanted to confirm that the positive result had not occurred on the ship. Some googling and asking at the Fairmont hotel attached to the airport yielded some information, though the Fairmont does not take quarantines. Points to them for telling us a couple places that do. So now my wife is in tears looking at 10 days in Vancouver alone, we're trying to decide if we're going to bust her into the US by shuttle to Seattle, rent a car to do the same thing, or what. We resigned ourselves to her being in Vancouver at least 5 days (CA$319/night) and we said our goodbyes (4:15). My son and I checked in for our flight to San Francisco (WestJet credit needing to be used) where we would spend the night before catching a nonstop SFO-CLT the next day. Wife went up to where they do the confirmation test then shuttled to hotel. At 5:55 wife calls me and tells me she had gotten a call from the confirmation test people (Bon Voyage - they own CVM) telling her she was actually negative. So results in less than 2 hours rather than 12-24 hours I guess. But at that point we're 35 minutes from boarding so she would not have enough time to get back to airport, get through security and to the gate in time. On top of that we would have had to pay for the night in the hotel anyway, so we planned on her calling American to see if she could change her part of our SFO-CLT booking to get back to Charlotte from Vancouver the next day. Five minutes later she calls me again and says the email from Bon Voyage said she was positive and she had called them and they said they had been mistaken and that she was positive so she's back to multiple days in Vancouver again. Ten minutes after that, so just before we're about to board, wife calls again telling me that Bon Voyage called her and said the mistake was a mistake and she was negative and they had sent her another email that said negative (if you haven't been keeping track, she's been positive then negative then positive then negative over the course of 20 minutes). So now that she had an email that says she was negative she could book a flight out. She was able to rebook her part of our American tickets so she flew out of YVR at 6:00am the next morning with a layover in DFW, then arriving in CLT two hours before my son and I did. So a false positive result led to us being out $600+ beyond the stress of it all, and now I'm trying to figure out who I get that money back from. And if you're wondering she took another test after getting home: negative. Overall, it was a great vacation, but that Sunday was filled with events National Lampoon couldn't come up with.
  8. According to the updated Alaska & Canada Cruise Protocols PDF on the HAL site, they are still providing tests for land first cruisetour guests before the cruise portion. The PDF is linked to on this page.
