Virgin Voyages Cruise Ship Will Have Tattoo Studio

Cruise Critic went to the tattoo giveaway (and our editor got her own tattoo!) She put together a nice write-up on what the line is hoping to accomplish with the studio: https://www.cruisecritic.com/news/news.cfm?ID=8940

How to prepare for an Asian cruise?

Just back from an extended trip that included four days in Shanghai. If you have T-mobile or international data on your phone, you can use it and access Google maps, FB, email -- and not have to deal with a VPN. I wrote up a review of the different tours we took in Shanghai: https://www.cruisecritic.com/news/news.cfm?ID=8953&fbclid=IwAR0tdInipqxyilwJWHWJ6TAqO6az5D9x_-Zr4nN3Vbi9c35jsRtXw2E_tus. One site I enjoyed that wasn't on the tour is the Propaganda Poster museum. Definitely get local currency. Cabs were all over the place in what they charged. Some were super cheap, others jacked up their prices. We were told to go with the yellow ones and avoid the blue ones. I looked up the Chinese characters for the place we were going and showed the driver the name. The metro is fairly easy to use. Our hotel was Hyatt on the Bund. Great views of Pudong skyline, particularly from the rooftop bar.
  4. Hi all - While in Shanghai before my Quantum of the Seas cruise, I tested four tours in Shanghai. Some great options! If you're flying there from the US, you'll at least want a few days to explore before you board your ocean or river ship. Really enjoyed the city, particularly how modern it was. Indian River Cruise

Check out this story: Staying Healthy on an India River cruise. I'd add that for us, Xifaxin really helped. Worked fast and cleared things up. In Laos right now, and can attest that the stomach issues in India are worse than what you'd find in Asia. The sanitation in India is just another level (worse) than what I've seen elsewhere on exotic river cruises.
  6. Hi all - I'm heading out this weekend for Thailand, where I'll be sailing the Upper Mekong through Laos with Pandaw. This is a section of the river that no other river cruise company really does, so I'll be writing lots of content for the site. Let me know if you have any questions!

    Indian River Cruise

Hi. I went on this trip last year and have a full ship review of Ganges Voyager II, the ship that Uniworld uses. We also have a whole section of information on India river cruises.

Cruise Critic on U by Uniworld

Hi - I have a just-launched full review of The B as well that you might want to read. On their own, the drinks range from 8 euro to 10 euro. The package is $299. Here's the list of excursion costs. The ones that are underlined are ones that DIDN"T run on our trip, either because not enough people signed up or because of another reason (the catacomb people are on strike). Van Gogh $ 186 Normandy Beaches $ 241 Cliffs of Étretat $ 219 Kayak the Seine $ 77 Monet's Gardens $ 39 Lady Marmalade $ 153 Parisian cuisine $ 72 The Louvre $ 83 Street Art Walk $ 87 Retro bike tour St. Germain des Pres $ 98 Paris Catacombs $ 43 The excursions that got the best response on our cruise were the retro bike tour, the kayaking, Monet's Gardens and Lady Marmalade. The D Day trip was not worth the cost, IMHO.

Cruise Critic on U by Uniworld

I’m on The B, sailing the Seine and checking out the U by Uniworld experience. I’ve been on a few days already and have a few observations: *Definitely not Millennial-only - passengers are a wide range of ages (for the record, i am a Gen Xer at 49). There are a lot of agents on our sailing, however, as well as passengers who were transferred to our ship from The A, which is having problems with low water. *Love the late mornings, late nights and very casual onboard atmosphere. *Two meals are served daily; the implication is that you’ll eat lunch in town or grab a quick bite during the excursion. The meals are both buffet but the food is very fresh and tasty. *It takes some adjustment to go paperless - I really like having a paper schedule to refer to. That being said, the whatsapp group works just fine. *I also really like the modern decor - it’s more like a hip hotel than a riverboat. The photos of the celebrities are a little much - if you’re older, you might not know who they are - but all in all, the transformation is pretty cool. Let me know if you have any questions about this new cruise line. Sent from my iPhone using Forums

Danube water levels 2018 and similar topics - plus tips and info

So our editor on Scenic Jasper never swapped ships. But they were told they can't go further than Vilshofen. So they are turning around and going back to Passau; tours are being added and others are still being done with buses. The ship will debark in Engelshartzell, where passengers will be transferred to their flights in Munich. It's a longer bus ride, for sure, but she says people have been handling it all very well.
  14. I've been on both UnCruise and Alaskan Dream; reviews are on the site. Both are excellent products. If I had to steer people one way, I'd note that UnCruise has more active excursions and is more of an adventure while Alaskan Dream stresses native and Alaskan culture more, with less emphasis on sports. Both are older boats but have excellent guides and staff, as well as food. Both attract like-minded travelers. Both are fabulous. You can't go wrong.
