  3. The two sailings we've done out of Cape Liberty we taped luggage tags to our case of water and it was delivered with our luggage. Last year when we sailed out of Port Canaveral they wanted it in the luggage so we put a case in a small suitcase. We will be sailing out of Bayonne again this month, just wondered which it was currently for that port. Anyone know? Same as before or like Port Canaveral? TIA
  4. Hey Frequent floaters! My name is Joshua and I work remotely for a software company. Since I can work from anywhere with good internet, I've been working aboard Royal Caribbean ships for a change of scenery (6 Cruises last year, 12 this year). I've found Royal Caribbeans internet to be the best in the industry, however, there IS a difference from ship-to-ship within their fleet. Not all "Voom" internet is the same. They use different satellites based on geographic location AND based on the technology on the ship. And it's all marketed and priced as if it's the same. It's not. 🙂 Here's where you come in--I'm trying to compile a Ship List that will expose which ships have REAL Voom Internet (fast speed, low latency/delay, O3B Network-BEST) and which have NOT-REAL Voom Internet (moderate speeds, high latency/delay, SpeedCast Network-Just Ok). A speedtest from the wifi-connected device will reveal this on the ship. The NOT-REAL Voom internet operates much slower as the delay from ship to satellite is 650+ms whereas the REAL Voom internet operates around 200ms. This is most notable when doing video calls like Facetime or Zoom or playing videos on Facebook/Youtube. For me, the internet is my life on the ship. Here is my list so far. SHIP Adventure--NOT REAL Voom (as of Jan 2019 Thanks @John&LaLa) Allure--REAL Voom (as of Nov 2017) Anthem--Coming Soon (Sailing Aug 2019) Brilliance--NOT REAL Voom (as of Jan 2019) Empress--NOT REAL Voom (Thanks @Ourusualbeach!) Enchantment-- Explorer-- Freedom--REAL Voom (as of Dec 2018) Grandeur-- Harmony--REAL Voom (Thanks @Ourusualbeach!) Independence--REAL Voom (as of April 2019) Jewel-- Liberty-- Majesty--REAL Voom (Thanks @Ourusualbeach!) Mariner--NOT Real Voom (as of July 2019) Navigator-- Ovation--REAL Voom (except when in Alaska, then terrible internet) Oasis--Coming Soon (Sailing Dec 2019) Quantum-- Radiance-- Rhapsody-- Serenade--NOT Real Voom (Thanks @John&LaLa) Spectrum-- Symphony--REAL Voom (Thanks @Ourusualbeach!) Vision-- Voyager-- LOCATION/ITINERARIES Alaska--Real Voom NOT available regardless of Ship Technology (O3B network isn't available above aprx Vancouver Lattitude) Caribbean--REAL Voom Available depending on Ship Technology Bermuda-- Canada/New England--Sailing August 29 on Anthem Panama Canal-- Mexico Pacific-- Meditteranean-- TransAtlantic-- MiddleEast-- For what it's worth, I've asked Royal Caribbean for clarification on which ships have the O3B Network Technology ("Real Voom") and they declined to answer. If you've been on a recent cruise, or are on one now and did a speed test or asked the IT manager, would you help me update this list? Here are two examples of speedtests through Ookla's Speedtest App, showing the difference between REAL Voom and NOT REAL Voom. Would you help me out?
  5. Howdy, folks: We just got off the Liberty in Galveston. 10 of us sailed in the 4 bedroom Villa Suite, and another 7 folks were in different scattered cabins. I am going to do a trip report in installments over the next few days, and I will post pictures to my personal blog and provide links to them where appropriate. I also have a PDF of all of the MDR and specialty menus, and I have PDFs of quite a few bar menus. For now, though, here is what stood out to me: The Good The concierge, Mangesh, worked particularly hard to make sure we were enjoying ourselves. I appreciated him very much. We paid for an embarkation lunch at Chops. If you are going to do one lunch at Chops, this is an excellent time to do it. I hit a $2000 jackpot on the last day of the cruise! I enjoyed the buffet more than in 2017. They seemed to have more curries available, and that is an item which keeps well on a buffet. We all enjoyed our dinners in the MDR. In Cayman, leave the pier area and turn left on the first street. Walk past the beach to the restaurant where some dudes are chopping fresh fish out front. Order the oxtail. You are welcome. Janet Crick and the Falmouth Culinary Tour were amazing. We booked that independently rather than through the cruise line. The Bad Embarkation Day alcohol has gone to the dogs. Royal elected to only pay taxes on very cheap stuff like McCormack's. Ugh. Pay the taxes on at least a couple of decent bottles. It is a flat $3.50 per bottle regardless of whether it is McCormack's or Four Roses Single Barrel. The weight limit for the slides is 300 pounds. I weighed 219.8 on the day I left, although I trust that went up a bit. On Wednesday, after riding all week, the same attendant who let me on all week demanded that I step on the scale in public to prove I was below the weight limit. I am deeply upset about the way they elected to handle that and a grossly inconsistent application of their own policy. The blackjack rules still stink at most tables. For the love of all that is good and holy, quit interrupting my dinner to take photos, sell me specialty dining, sell me onboard experiences, etc. Surprises Our balcony was 800+ square feet, and we didn't actually use it all that much. I suspect the leftover wine in the fridge and the alcohol we had delivered to the room as gifts made an excellent addition to the Room Steward Party Fund. I consistently kicked my kid's arse when we raced down the water slides. Dad still has it, kiddo. Now go clean your room. More later. It was, on balance, an excellent cruise. I'll do my best to answer questions as they come up.
  6. Well I would hope the blantons comes in a box to help protect it. I’ll be on liberty in May and if they are 70 a bottle I’ll probably buy 5 bottles for myself and 5 for my wife....or however many they have and will let me buy. I buy them when I can and give them away as gifts.
  7. Yes. There was a short period of time a few years back that Royal had pre-cruise reservations for Saturday Night Fever on Liberty, and the ice shows on all Freedom class ships, but those were discontinued. They may have some sort of access control method for the ice show, and if so, you will be notified onboard.
  8. Hi, everyone! I’m just back from our cruise on Liberty of the Seas. I’m not new to cruising; I’ve sailed multiple times each on HAL, NCL, and Carnival, but this was our first cruise with Royal. This is also my first review on the boards, so please be gentle! 🙂 We are a family of three – my husband and I in our mid-40s, and our 9-year-old son. We live in Texas, so we often cruise from Galveston since it’s so much easier to drive a few hours than to fly. Many thanks to the others here who have mentioned or reviewed aft cabin #7408 – a “regular” balcony cabin with a huge corner balcony. Reading about it on Cruise Critic led me to choose this cabin, and we LOVED it. Not only for the amazing balcony, but the aft location was convenient to the MDR, the Windjammer, the pool deck, etc. I would definitely choose this ship and this cabin again. The Liberty is pristine and gorgeous. We thought the ship was well-maintained and just lovely. I hope it stays in Galveston for a while so we might have the chance to sail on her again. We had the surf and stream internet package, which worked great for us. There were only a few times in our cabin at night when it didn’t work well. Most of the time it was fast. Royal Caribbean uses a different terminal than Carnival in Galveston, which was new to us. We waited in the security line for nearly an hour, and it was pretty hot in that room. (We usually get FTTF with Carnival and breeze through security, but the Key is way more expensive than FTTF.) Our carry-ons were heavy, too, since we had a 12-pack of water bottles split between our backpacks. We finally made it on board, later than I expected due to the long security line, but it worked out OK because they announced that the cabins were ready right as we boarded. We were able to go immediately to our cabin and drop our carry-on bags. We checked out our highly-anticipated balcony space with its three chairs, two tables, and two loungers. We spent a lot of time out there and enjoyed it as much as possible during the week. #7408 #7408 is the top window of the two round ones - the one with the railing.
  9. How many hours at a time is a baby allowed to be in the nursery? Does anyone have experience with leaving their baby in the nursery while going ashore for an excursion?
  10. The ships with the roughest looking areas for me were on Oasis, when she was 18 months and Liberty 6 months after the most recent dry dock. Everything on Oasis I noticed was fixed by the end of the week (basically all painting) and the worn carpet on Liberty had all been replaced by my next cruise on her. My point? I've never really noticed age related roughness on RCL or DCL. There is always on going damage and maintenance, though. I don't really care about things being dated on ships, I'm not one for trends, though.
  11. Allure might go to Galveston, since Liberty is due for dry dock in 2021! Liberty might even go to Southampton! Oasis will probably go to PC, and Anthem will probably come to NY!
  12. Hi - I need to know if there is reliable WIFI and WIFI calling on the Liberty of the Seas. It is VERY important that my husband have access to his labtop and phone while we are away for work purposes. I wanted to see if anyone has been on this ship RECENTLY or knows how I can find out RELIABLE information on this. I know the VOOM plan will need to be purchased, and we plan on doing that, and also we need to make sure AT&T allows WIFI calling and they do on our plan, but I am more worried about the reliability of the service, especially while out at sea. We basically will have to cancel this trip if he can't get service and we didn't buy insurance, so we really dont want to do that. :( Any help or assistance is GREATLY appreciated!! Thanks!!!!
  13. Good evening, I have cruised once, on the NOS back in Nov. 2014. I know the alcohol drinks (beverages) :) are limited once you board, in Galveston, TX on the LOS, but would anyone happen to have a pic or list of these drinks. I have the deluxe drink package, but just didn't know what was available. I've searched, but unsuccessfully. Thanks for any assistance anyone may have. Our trip is 24-31 Dec 2017 (a get away much needed vacation).
  14. Updated 9/21/19 --- Thanks to everyone for their help in providing me with information on who they come across on sailings. My hope is to put update this thread every few days or at least once week. To do that, I need cruisers (or others that somehow have 'insider information') to let me know who they come across on sailings. HAPPY CRUISING! What Activity Manager have you come across? Post the name, ship and sailing date to help keep this thread as accurate as possible. ****Adventure OTS – Cian has been identified as currently on AD. Cian has told a cruiser that he will be onboard until Nov. 23 when he goes to Grandeur, ****Allure OTS – Moe was reassigned to Allure instead of going to Coco Cay probably from early August possibly as a 4 month contract. ****Anthem OTS – Kat joined Anthem in mid August for 2 months. We just sailed on the first NE/Canada cruise of the season and she was terrific. We will see who takes over from Kat in late October. Kat hosted the Quest and did a great job….I personally was not very fond of where they hold the Quest, but realistically there may be no other location. ****Brilliance OTS – TT has been reported as onboard on the completed sailing 4/20/19 and still onboard as of mid Sept 2019 by a cruiser. Based on normal contract periods, it would make sense for TT to be heading to vacation soon….so hoping to hear more from other cruisers on Brilliance. ****Empress OTS – Tanya was on board, as per a cruiser in June. Probably took over from Eric Lopez. ****Enchantment OTS – Saini has been onboard, but could be completing a contract and departing the ship. Who is currently onboard? ****Explorer OTS – Katie (unknown last name, but not to be confused with Katie Turner) took over on June 26 and she is expected to be onboard until the end of October. ****Freedom OTS – Bern has been identified as on board. No information on contract timeline. ****Grandeur OTS – Katrina Blair should have returned on 8/13 and is expected to be there until 11/23. *****Harmony – Chris Turdo should have taken over from Mosese on July 28. ****Independence OTS – Katie Turner took over in June and should be onboard for a 4 month contract until Sept/October timeframe….unsure of exact dates. *****Jewel OTS – Luana from Brazil returned to Jewel in mid May. As of the 7/14 sailing she was still on board. Probably a 4 month contract through sometime in Sept. *****Liberty OTS – Kim is now on Liberty, unsure of start date… ****Majesty OTS – Who has taken over from Mauricio Diaz who departed the ship on 6/15 for vacation. WHO is currently onboard? I have asked Mauricio if he is going to return to MJ when he returns from vacation. *****Mariner OTS – Gemma Stubs has taken over from Alex Paul late July. She is scheduled to move into the CD role sometime in Mid September. Perhaps Alex Paul will be returning at that time as the AM…..time will tell. *****Navigator OTS – Looking to find out who is onboard now? *****Oasis OTS – Drydock until February 2020 ***** Ovation – Angelle took over on 5/13 and she should be on a regular contract length, so onboard until mid Sept. Aysy should be taking over at that time. Who is onboard NOW? *****Quantum – Who is currently onboard? *****Radiance OTS – Sophie is currently onboard on the 7/30 sailing as reported to me, by the CD on the ship, Mark Rous. **** Rhapsody OTS – Thiago Motta has been reported on board. As reported to me by a cruiser, Thaigo may be onboard until December. **** Serenade OTS – Elizabeth Hackett was on the March 25th sailing. She may have arrived n mid February, and could be on a 4 month contract until June. Unsure who is on now. She may have gone on vacation and returned by now, if this was going to be a regular assignment for her. **** Spectrum OTS – Bonnie Bai has been identified as currently onboard at least since July 15. **** Symphony OTS – Flavio Maeda rejoins the ship on 9/21 for a 4 month contract until mid January. ***** Vision OTS – Palo has been identified as onboard, unsure when his contract began. *****Voyager OTS – Kitty has been onboard since May 3, 2019. We don’t know if it is a 2 or 4 month contract.
  15. Please come visit us at Cape Liberty in Bayonne, NJ. 😉 😄🤣🤣🤣
  16. I was thinking. We already know Ovation will be in Alaska. In 2021, Harmony and Liberty are due for a dry dock, most likely taking place in Cadiz, Spain. This means that Galveston and Port Canaveral would be missing a ship. Adventure is supposed to go to Galveston in 2021, so that takes care of that. What about Port Canaveral? Would Oasis reposition to Port Canaveral, or would Symphony reposition to Port Canaveral once Melody arrives in Miami? Where would Anthem go? I would think Anthem would reposition to New York, replacing Adventure and running 5 and 9 night itineraries, alongside Oasis' 7 night itineraries.
  17. I'm not a scotch drinker, but I have a rather significant taste for bourbon. We sailed on the Liberty this Summer, and some friends reported that they could get decent Scotch in the cigar bar. I found Four Roses Single Barrel and a couple of other great bourbons in the English pub... on the last night of the cruise. Take the first day to walk your ship and look at the bottles each bar has on offer. Happy sailing!
  18. Which means Anthem could come back to Cape Liberty! I just think it's ridiculous the prices they are charging for the Quantum class ships in 2020!
  19. Below is a list of the ships in the fleet. Cruise Directors play an important role in the entertainment onboard, and their assistant is the Activity Manager. If you know the name of the Activity Manager onboard one of the ships, please reply. Adventure OTS – Allure OTS - Anthem OTS – Brilliance OTS – Enchantment OTS – Explorer OTS – Freedom OTS - Grandeur OTS – Independence OTS - Jewel OTS - Legend OTS - Liberty OTS - Majesty OTS - Mariner OTS - Navigator OTS - Oasis OTS - Quantum OTS - Radiance OTS - Rhapsody OTS - Serenade OTS – Splendour OTS – Vision OTS - Voyager OTS -
  20. Definitely go to Jaimie's at the Blue Reef. We've been there twice in the last 2 years and will be back there in 2 weeks on Liberty. Great ceviche and cheap beer. Jaimie is a great guy, very hospitable.
  21. I'm sailing on RCCL Liberty of the Seas at the end of the month. What is there to do in Puerto Costa Maya?
  22. Any new information about this? Latest I heard was that an Oasis class ship would be deployed once the new terminal was finished. Supposed to be fall of 2001?
  23. If you are on the same sailing as I am, check out the roll call. Liberty September 29. There have been a few recommendations for each of the ports. Personally I went with native choice tours for Costa Maya.
