  1. Hi there, I was on NOS a few months ago and loved our Suite concierge, Can anyone tell me who is currently the Suite Concierge on Navigator? Thank you
  2. Hello, I am taking my 2 adult daughters and 2 grandkids on a 4 night Catalina / Ensenada cruise this summer. There were no connecting 2 person / 3 person cabins available - so we are next door to each other. I am wondering if anyone has had experience getting the balcony partition opened between cabins - this would be an easy way to get back and forth between cabins - checking on the kids when they go to bed early. We are midship on deck 8. thanks for any info! Jerie
  3. Hello, It's been a few years since I've been involved in a Roll Call. We've met some of our fellow cruisers on roll calls before cruises in the past - hoping we can do so on this upcoming cruise. If you're sailing 7/22/24 on Navigator - come check out the roll call! Jerie
  4. My wife and I collect the Starbuck Been There/You Are Here Series mugs and were excited to see Royal Caribbean add these to some of their ships. We only collect the mugs for places where we've been though sometimes purchasing at the location isn't possible. When we went to Turkey on Odyssey of the Seas, the Starbucks didn't have any in the store near the port, so we ended up ordering one off eBay. When Royal Caribbean announced the Been There series for their ships, they showed Navigator as one of the options that would be released. We sailed on that ship in October 2022, and I've been checking eBay for months but haven't seen one listed. I've seen Allure, Odyssey, Mariner, Icon, Wonder, etc. Anyone been on the Navigator lately? Are they selling the Navigator Been There mugs at Starbucks? If they are selling them and you're sailing soon, maybe consider picking one up and price gouging us collectors on eBay. 🙂 Happy sailing!
  5. We're booked on the April 12th sailing of Navigator OTS out of Los Angeles. The ship is currently in a scheduled dry-dock and this cruise is the 1st one upon the ships scheduled return to sailing. As of 3 days ago, it looked like there were approx 200 available cabins (including all categories) I know because we've been stalking the website because of our Royal Up bids!! Anyway - as of this morning, this cruise no longer shows up on the website AT ALL. I think it's pretty unlikely that it sold out in 3 days. The only explanations i can come up with are either A) the website is messed up and it will correct itself any minute or B) some delays are becoming evident in the drydock and they're anticipating having to cancel this cruise....??? I hope this is not the case, but wonder if anyone else has any info? Am i just being paranoid? We've never had a cruise cancelled, but we've also never booked the 1st one out of drydock and i know these things happen some times.
  6. Trying to arrange flight home- looking at booking an American Airlines flight that departs SNA- John Wayne Airport at 11:40am.. Want to walk off with Bags and catch an Uber. Can anyone assist with the first available time to walk off the Ship.. Arriving on 5/24 after a 4 night cruise... Greatly appreciated Is it doable??? Thank you
  7. Just got off a 7 night cruise on Navigator of the Seas out of LA. It saddens me how much Royal has declined. It was strange that there wasn't even crew welcoming you aboard. Not even people trying to sell food or beverage packages. If I hadn't been on many cruises I would have had no clue where to even go as it seemed like they've never done an embarkation. Guests smoked on their balconies throughout the cruise. I called guest services with the room number as it was near me and I could see them. Got a call a couple hours later that there was no evidence so there's nothing that can be done. Royal promenade also reeked of smoke from the casino, but not much can be done about that since the staircase to the casino is right in the middle. Food quality has declined even further since this last July. I bought the ultimate dining package since MDR was bad last cruise. Hooked seafood was such tiny portions. Claimed to be 4oz lobster, but it was hard to believe it was even 3oz. No more 2 lb crab stuffed whole lobster. Chops steaks really didn't seem to be prime grade and fish selection was Atlantic salmon, which I would never feed to anyone. Jamie's was decent, but I'd consider Olive Garden to be far better quality and taste. Went to Izumi once and cancelled our future reservations as the sushi was terrible. My parents went to chefs table and everyone seemed to agree it was a waste of 3 hrs and did not taste good. Breakfast in the MDR was terrible. No pastries available. I ordered the French toast and had dried out bread that seemed somewhat like French toast. Windjammer was the same low quality food every meal. Playmakers was the bright spot. We enjoyed the food there and ended up going back several times. Waterslides were frequently closed because there was wind. I'm not really sure effect wind has as the lifeguards were all still stationed there. Flowrider was still going, so it wasn't temperature related. Kids pool closed at 4:30 for some reason, guessing not enough lifeguard staff. Disembarkation was a mess as one of the gangway exits was down so there was a line wrapping down both sides of the exterior deck to get off and they kept calling groups anyways.
  8. After reading a number of reviews that were quite negative I want to share my opinion of our trip. Chose the 4 day +7 day cruise from LA as it is driving distance from our home and warmer as well. Itinerary is not that exciting but we just wanted a getaway. Stayed in an interior cabin on deck 7 - with the beds separated it was plenty of room for us. It seemed like many folks were not prepared that this was not a sunny hot trip until we got to Cabo, be prepared for cooler weather so as not to be disappointed. We were able to enjoy what we wanted in each port, mostly doing lots of walking and admiring. The Carnival statues were out in Mazatlan and are beautiful. Our dinners in the MDR ranged from very tasty to fine and the portion size (smaller) appealed to us. Service was excellent in both MDR and Windjammer. It the food in the Windjammer is uninspiring and repetitive - can really see where they have cut down on quality of ingredients. Plenty of fresh fruit each day and breakfast eggs were nice but other than that boring. Did really enjoy Izumi - sunset from that view was amazing. We found it worked well for us to order a pair of rolls to share rather than buying the dinner. Service here was excellent as well. And for the second cruise Izumi was no longer on the BOGO menu for first or second night - new rule that day. The house band Kronos was outstanding - enjoyed them for each set we could. The dancers were excellent and the singers fine. As always enjoy the ice show and the intro with drones is very cool. It was great fun watching football playoff games with the crowd at Playmakers - wish they had thought to have a venue like the Sky Lounge with the big screen set up for that as many folks ended up standing and filling up the area as well as making access to Cafe Promenade and the elevators quite challenging. Navigator is not young but she is in fine condition and with the excellent service is a great sail - had a nice winter break and will repeat next year.
  9. I'm considering an OV cabin on deck 3 across from the photo gallery (3700-3712). Is there a separate hallway for the cabin? Confirming that the doors do not open directly into the photo gallery area?
  10. Hi There, I am wondering what the rules are for the waterslides on Navigator OTS, "The Blaster" and "Riptide". Examples from our last cruise on a different ship are: no glasses, no metal buckles or rivets on your swimsuit (no metal at all). I want to try the slides, but I don't want to buy a new swimsuit due to the adjustable straps (with metal adjuster) on my current one. I would also prefer to wear my glasses vs contacts. I can't see without correction, so it will have to be one or the other if I want to enjoy the clear panel over the water. Thank you, Julie
  11. We are close to midship and my mom just hurt her ankle. Trying to figure out from the deck plans if the suite lounge is off the front elevators or midship/back set. Also if anyone knows where the conference center is? TY!
  12. I know this has been discussed ad nauseum, but until I saw it for myself I wasn't prepared for the decline in quality of the food in the MDR since I last sailed on Navigator on only 18 months ago. At least 50% of the dishes in the MDR are now barely edible impersonations of what you might get at a nice restaurant. Sure, you can order prime rib, but it's sliced as thin as deli meat. You can order pea risotto, but you are going to get soggy rice with some frozen peas thrown in. It goes on and on. My wife works at a large hospital and when I said to her, "It's like we are eating at your cafeteria," she said, "Oh, our food is much better than this." A few of the dishes are decent, but they tend to be the more casual options - the fried chicken, the enchilada, and the spinach and artichoke dip appetizer were all something I would order again. Also, the Indian option was consistently good. Overall, the entire concept is a failure now. There is still formal dining room ambience - massive chandelier, white linen table cloths, and the assistant waiter who comes to your table before dessert to wipe your crumbs away. But budget cuts have resulted in food that has no place in such an upscale setting. There is a reason that upscale casual restaurants on land don't try to offer risotto or escargot - it's impossible to provide at high quality at the price point they need to hit. Yet RC seems to insist on offering these options even though they are incredibly disappointing when they are placed in front of you. If RC is going to insist on this new, lower cost per meal, they would be better off abandoning any pretense of formal dining (perhaps except for formal nights) and converting the MDR to a nice, upscale casual restaurant. It would be unfortunate, but at least we could have consistently good food, even if we lose the formality of a three-course meal. It would also distinguish RC from other cruise lines and allow people to "vote with their pocketbook." If a formal dinner every night is important, people can choose Celebrity (which recently recommitted to the MDR and added certain dishes back). If people want a more casual experience while on vacation, they can choose RC. Because at the moment it's just smoke and mirrors - the illusion of fine dining.
  13. This is our first time on the Navigator of the Seas. We have cruised on Royal in the past but always in a balcony cabin. Does anyone know what the suite perks are on this ship? Thank you!
  14. Just came back from a 7 night cruise on Navigator of the seas. Of course it's awesome to cruise and I always view it as a privilege to be able to do so. I did however notice how much the cruise industry seems to have changed since my last cruise which was over 7 years ago. I don't know how much is RCCL specific, navigator specific or cruise industry generally, but it was clear that the "decadence" of cruising has been greatly diminished with a lot of cutbacks. These are not complaints...and they may seem picky...no item by itself is an issue, but taken as a whole, it adds up to a less than stellar experience as compared to those of us who were fortunate enough to cruise in the "good ole days". In no order, but things that I noticed: 1. Windjammer shuts down at 9pm. It's not that I'm in the habit of stuffing my face at midnight but an aspect of cruising was the selection and availability of food. This 9pm shutdown was made all the more prominent due to the showtimes (see next item). 2. My recollection was that they used to have shows and dinner seating well timed and it didn't matter if you had early or late dining. Now, the late show is 10:15pm so when you finish you second seating dinner by 9pm, you have to wait an hour and 15 minutes for the show. And then if you finish that show it's 11pm so if you decided to have a light dinner and you're feeling peckish, you have no free dining option other than Promenande which isn't much of a selection. We consistently noticed conflicts in show times with our dinner seating. It just didn't flow well. 3. Room service is only once a day now, no turn down service. Again, I appreciate that was a luxury and many hotels no longer even offer daily service, but by comparison, it is a cut back from what they used to do. 4. The cost of the specialty restaurants was outrageous. It used to be that it was subsidized in that you pay something but it was better than "on-land" restaurant prices. Now Chops is $62.99 plus 18% and Jamies Italian was around $55 + 18%. Those are expensive even by traditional shore side restaurants. Feels like more than "inflation adjusted" pricing. 5. Crew/staff is as always fantastic and friendly but I definitely got the feeling of being overworked and overstretched. Service in the MDR was efficient but bar service slow. At times I wanted a second glass of wine but I knew if I ordered it they'd get it to me by the time my main course was done so I didn't bother. And everytime they asked me for my stateroom number, whether I had the beverage package etc. On my previous cruises they would always quickly learn your preferences. 6. Lots of nickel and diming and little cut backs. Something as simple as a tote bag in your room for beach trips etc. 7. Shoe excursions ungodly pricey if booking through the cruise line. And they of course give themselves the upper hand by letting RCCL booked excursions get first tender etc. Side note, I booked the beach getaway ... borderline scam. Shuttled us to a resort in a busy part of town where we ended up having to lie by the pool because the beach was awful (see picture) which we could have done at the ship if that's what we wanted. I feel the inflection point is being reached of cutbacks affecting the cruise experience, and making all inclusive resorts an attractive option again. Still to be clear, it's an awesome vacation. Go and enjoy it. Side note, it's the fellow passengers sometimes that are the hardest to contend with. To wit, the family who let their kid take a big old dump on the pool deck and just quickly walked away, or the guy who sneezed a big old wet sneeze in the buffet, looked at his hand, wiped it on his shirt and proceeded to grab the serving tongs. It's a miracle we survived covid as a species. The "luxury beach getaway":
  15. Early on there were numerous youtube reviews of Navigator of the Seas that mentioned the poolside screen has a terrible display...it is tinted green and the resolution is more tile-like. I hope that they have fixed the quality of the screen as I will be sailing on it over Christmas. Anyone sailed on NOS lately and noticed the poolside screen display? Thanks and Cheers!
  16. I think I know the answer but wanted to check. We're on the Navigator next summer with our granddaughter. Dh and I are both D+. Granddaughter isn't. Any chance we get free wifi because we're in Grand suite. I don't think so but thought I'd ask. Thanks.
  17. It's about that time to pack again. Question: for those of you that have been on a 7-nighter out of LA recently, were there any White, Caribbean / Island, Seventies, Sixties or Great Gatsby parties? I want to bring the least amount of stuff possible but it would be fun to dress up for these events if they have them. I tried going on the App but I couldn't find any current 7 day sailings.
  18. I've been bargain shopping for balconies on Navigator OTS and up popped a balcony gty XB for significantly less than a 4D gty. Can anyone share what kind of balcony you ended up with? Are there any partially obstructed views or downside to this? Thanks!
  19. We usually sail princess and i always order flower for the stateroom. Just went to look at navigator and there are none. Called and was told by the person they do not offer them. is this something you can buy on the ship. Or can I bring my own on? Or is this something I can maybe arrange with the concierge? We are in an owners suite and i would like some nice flowers in the room. thanks.
  20. Checked the San Pedro webcam and there are a couple barges beside Navigator of the Seas. Been there all day. EarthCam - Port of LA Cam
  21. Have a 9 year old that will want to do both. Is this something I can ask the suite concierge to arrange before getting on the boat. Can they both be reserved beforehand? also if anyone knows. On the 3 night weekend cruise i believe the laser tag is at 4pm or port day and ice skating is all day on the sea day. Is that correct?
  22. Wondering how it was aboard when Hurricane Hilary was passing by. What changes were made in your route?
  23. Can i reserve seats for the iskate show through the concierge and/or are there special seats set aside for suite guests? this show is only offered once on our cruise and I don’t want to miss the 9:15 show. Also, thinking a 6:30 dinner reservation that night should work in chops, but maybe 6pm would be better? thanks in advance!
  24. We will be sailing with a large group. 12 adults and 10 children. We all have the dining package for specialty restaurants. 1. how large a group can they accomodate at tables in the specialty restaurants? 2. How likely are we to be able to even make a reservation to accommodate all of us on board? Two couples, including us, have suites. So i will be requesting reservations for just us beforehand and then we will try to switch up once on board. But wondering how likely it even is. thank you
  25. Greetings! This is my trip report from our family’s vacation on the Navigator of the Seas 4-day cruise to Mexico from August 7 to 11. I called this posting a “trip report” instead of a “cruise review” because, in my opinion, I am not qualified to do a professional review. This is just a summary of what our family experienced during our vacation time – Days of our lives, so to speak. Keep in mind when I say “trip” report and not “cruise” report. Meaning you will be taken along for a ride for the entire trip process, not just the cruise portion. It’s the mailman version of the vacation resort, stopping off at each and many detailed points that may be of no interest to the veteran cruisers. Another way to look at it in cruising terms is having to suffer through some idiot pressing every number on the elevator between decks 2 and 12 and you have to watch the elevator door open and close on every deck instead of going all the way to the top…. Background – We are an extended family of 6 on this cruise consisting of my wife, 2 boys, myself, and my in-laws. My wife and I are both CPA’s (aka bean counters – we have very boring mealtime conversations talking about taxes and we wonder why our boys tune us out) so I will probably have more numbers-related discussions than most people care to read. Bias – Everyone has a bias on their preferences when it comes to cruises & life in general. The key is to identify the bias and discount the bias versus fact. We like the big ships, the bigger the better. Our best cruise was on the Allure of the Seas – an Oasis-class mega-ship. You will see that bias in my report. That’s just our preference, but certainly will not be everyone’s preference so discount it any way you deem necessary. It’s been many years since I posted a trip report here on the RCI boards (I was on Princess boards last year for the Alaska cruise). Still, the format is the same as I typically throw in some random pictures in the first few introductory posts in what I considered highlights of the trip. Similar to movie trailers that give you a quick overview of the cruise but not giving you any details. For that, you would need to stick around for a while to read through my various posts. On the other hand, if you think these pictures suck, then go ahead and hit the return arrow on your browser as the future pictures won’t get any better than these first few sets. +++++++++++++++ Dude, who cares about your background? I’m not interested in hiring you for a job. Hurry up and show us your cruise pictures already. I’m frustrated in trying to find a reasonable price for my next RCI cruise as I have spent numerous hours/days/weeks/months clicking on every dang RCI sales promotion that is not really a sales at all. These inflated prices suck. I rather be on a real cruise than reading your gibberish but while I’m waiting for the “next big RCI sale”, I’ll read on… +++++++++++++++
