  1. Looking to book a Star Balcony Suite (SBS) deck five midship. 534-541. Does anyone have any information good and bad. Ideally I’d like the seating area by the balcony and the bed close to the bathroom. Thank for your input.
  2. Had the misfortune of having a root canal 2 days before departing for cruise.Post procedure day 3 I flew out of LAX for Barcelona. The doctor gave me 5 Vicoden and a low level antibiotic. Jaw was very painful. Has just gotten worse. Went throught the Vicoden in 1.5 days. Day after boarding Star Legend saw doctor onboard who offered me a visit to endodontist in Barcelona, or to up the antibiotic power. I chose a new antibiotic- the doctor thought a good first line choice too. 36 hours later much worse. It's an 8/10. Jaw swollen. Pain from tooth to ear to eyeball. The medical clinic offered me a visit to another endodontist in Marseille (2 days away) which I'll gladly choose. Meanwhile, my head/jaw feels like it's going to explode. Onboard medical doctor says the clinic has no pain medication to offer. With opiod abuse the way it is, it is understandable. Yet, confusing as I know people in pain do need pain control, and alternating Tylenol and Ibuprofen doesn't work for severe tooth pain or broken arms, broken hips, etc. I don't think I would have cruised taking a chance on hurting like this without adequate pain control. Unfortunately too I'm traveling solo, first cruise after losing my spouse- no one to "there, there" me. Anyone else verify- no opiod pain meds on cruise ships unless you bring them yourself?
  3. Tomorrow is 4 weeks from our departure day to Travel to Buenos Aires . We hope to spend the night in Miami for an early morning departure to B.A . where will spend the night before boarding the NCL Star on Saturday January 7th for a 2 week cruise . We had considered the holiday cruise that leaves on December 22 but at twice the price we decided to spend the difference on a 6 day Patagonia stay after the cruise . The last time that we went to Antarctica was on the HAL Zaandam during the holidays with Christmas scheduled in Ushuaia ( cancelled because of wind ) and we left Antarctica on New Years Eve 2018 . The NCL Star Wikipedia The fireworks leaving Antarctica on the Zaandam at midnight , NYE 2018/2019
  4. Purchased the silver spirits package expecting decent red wine by the glass. Big mistake. Not one California cab, took away the Australia cab by day three, the French Cote de rhone also now is missing. If we had known this up front, wouldn't have purchased the package and just bought decent wine by the bottle instead. Not interested in their house pours.
  5. Flying in to FLL non-stop from Philly tomorrow morning. Looking forward to being back on Star, and meeting fellow pax. Another pax is organizing a M&M, so will report back when details are known.
  6. hello has anyone booked a norwegian viva excursion in ISTANBUL CALLED CLASSICAL ISTANBUL AND EXCLUSIVE CLASSICAL ISTANBUL? AND ISTANBUL BY LAND AND SEA? any cruise dates in 2024 for the 10 day viva athens to rome cruise?
  7. My Virgin App advised that the shore things for my cruise, slated for reservations starting tomorrow, were open around 8 PM tonight, so slightly early. Scrolling down to the one I am interested, I see all of them grayed-out. I know we have to book early but having EVERYTHING sold out at the first minute they are released is a joke ! Each of them says to check back soon to see if they become available, or something like this. I know top tier cruise reservations like Rock Star status have first pick but they can't have booked ALL EXCURSIONS ! Is this how they appear before midnight of the set day of the reservations hence, I have to wait until 12:01 or something ?
  8. HOLLAND AMERICA BOARD'S FUTURE CRUISE LISTING Updated March 22nd, 2024 We all love to hear what cruises you are booked on. I post the Bon Voyage threads 7 days before sailing so, to be included in this: Post 3 weeks in advance so you aren’t missed. 1st cruise, anniversary, special celebration? Let us know. Details needed are in the 2nd post of this thread. Please use REPLY and not QUOTE when posting to this thread. Using 'Quote' makes a very long thread and cumbersome to read. 9. Absolutely no impact on Mariner star status. Enjoy!!
  10. Heavy rain overnight. Not going to eye doctor , doctor canceled, we’ll go Monday. We both miss our hot tub! It was central to our daily life in our mountain home. For peace, relaxation, sore knees, back issues, just about everything. We used it daily, it was beautiful in the starlight watching satellites crossing the star-filled sky, in the snow, in the mornings…. Champagne toast at midnight on New Years Eve The last thing we did at the house after the moving truck left was to have a final heavenly soak, give thanks for the beautiful life we had there. I miss it but nothing lasts forever. Had a very difficult talk with my brother last night discussing decisions that are likely coming about his wife if she doesn’t rally - feeding tube? DNR, moving her to a different type facility because they aren’t able to help her in the rehab so insurance won’t pay for the facility… getting a social worker involved. Everything is so slow except for cutting off payments and getting kicked out…. I can understand their reasoning and that someone who can be helped needs the bed, but she needs a chance to rest to see if she’ll come around soon…. I can’t help her, but maybe I can help him. Maybe our talk was the stressor that kept me from getting to sleep but finally I escaped to the guest room and slept there where I wasn’t keeping DH up too. I have friends on Nordam now, she’s in NZ, thank you Jacqui! Fun to follow her. And still no posts from our NZ Dailyites @erewhon…. Wednesday night I phoned in to share with a church group in Maryland. Their next gathering will be April 24, day after DH’s eye surgery near there at Johns-Hopkins. We’re thinking that instead of driving home that afternoon and hitting rush hour traffic up here we’ll stay over that night at a friend’s in our old community, have a visit with her and with my church gathering then get a mid-morning start to miss most of the traffic both there and here. And DH will be through the anesthesia recovery so we’ll be able to share the driving. Feels like a win-win! Plus I was able to rebook our hotel again with another price drop! Third rebooking- 2 price drops and one for a better cancellation date! @summer slopeyour accident will take a lot of recovery, inside and outside, please rest your body and your mind too. Trauma can be complex. So relieved to hear you are in one piece! Blessings for all the many in need, all in pain, all the caregivers and care teams, all those away especially our cruisers and travelers- Terry by car and @Mr. Boston by train! Good holy days to those who celebrate them. Cheers and toasts to those celebrating Life is Good🌈 Thanks all for being here! One day at a time is Everything! Be well, be safe, be kind and enjoy something today. Maureen
  11. New member. Single post. Norwegian Troll?
  12. I've sailed on World Europa, Bellissima, Virtuosa, Divina, Seaside, and Grandiosa. We have a cruise booked to the Norwegian Fjords on Euribia. How about you?
  13. Good Morning The annual Seatrade Cruise Global conference is coming up in a few weeks, where representatives from the global cruise industry descend on Miami for a week filled with cruise discussions, panels, programming & more. This year, the State of the Global Cruise Industry Keynote is inviting Cruise Critic members to submit questions to be considered for the conversation with CEOs from Carnival, Royal, NCLH and MSC. CEOs on the panel include: Harry Sommer, President & CEO of Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings Jason Liberty, President & CEO of Royal Caribbean Group Josh Weinstein, President, CEO & Chief Climate Officer of Carnival Corporation Pierfrancesco Vago, Executive Chairman of MSC Group Kelly Craighead, President & CEO at Cruise Lines International Association (CLIA) To help develop the panel questions, we'd love to hear from you. What questions do you have for the CEOs? Whether you have questions around itineraries, onboard experience, amenities, or more -- we're eager to hear them. Please share below to have your question(s) considered for the panel! Thanks! Aubrey Cruise Critic Assoc. Director, Marketing Communications
  14. Its going to be announced after Easter Norwegian cruise Lines will take over Saga.
  15. I see that the Star sails from Buenos Aires to Rio in late March the next cruise is late April in Europe. Anyone know what is happening in between?
  16. Just booked a 4-berth cabin for the family. Very excited as it's our first cruise since a trip on Ocean Village (which I think was a budget P&O brand?) many years back. It sounds like there's food available nearly 24hrs a day - is this correct? I'm more thinking of snacking at various points as opposed to attempting back-to-back dinners, but are there any restrictions in this respect? Also, is there a price list for excursions? I've searched various places and can't seem to find up-to-date pricing anywhere. Thanks in advance!
  17. We are docked in Nassau. Woo Hoo. This is a picture as we got close. We are docked in the 4th berth. Nassau is not my favorite port. But I’m very interested to see what the new port area looks like. I don’t have any excursion or plans here but I do plan to get off and look around. This was the pilot boat arriving at the ship early this morning. I wasn’t able to get a picture of the pilot, jumping onto the ship. we have been following the Norwegian pearl in each of our port stops. And she’s here, docked beside us.
  18. I am 72 cruising solo with some mobility problem hip problem cant walk too much. I wish to stay in Manila for at least 3 nights to experience Manila. 1) Can the grab drop me off right at the door of the cruise port so as soon as I enter I get my wheel chair. 2) Moderate hotel options near the port from where I can also take a grab to city center to explore shopping malls and food. 3) The hotels on Booking.com etc. rate them as excellent but the lowest ratings give away explaining that how bad it is. So it is very difficult to chose. 4) Sim cards information will also be appreciated. 5) At Manila Airport will I be able to get wheelchair assistance. AND THE SAME QUESTIONS APPLY FOR END OF MY CRUISE IN TAIPEI . I would like to cruise for now until I am able to ( God forbid I BECOME INVALID WITH SOME HEALTH ISSUES). Some people might say why does she want to travel when she is unable to. We should never take our good health and life for granted. I say we all have the right to live our old age life. I truly appreciate your feedbacks in assisting me to plan accordingly. THANKS A ZILLION.
  19. Ready to book first ever cruise to Norwegian fjords this year. Did a ton of research and best itinerary and value is P&O with Princess a close 2nd. However I look up multiple P&O reviews and they are awful, between unreliable old ships, low quality free for all buffets, plumbing issues and norovirus outbreaks they sound like a disaster. There are a fair few satisfied customers too to be fair. Princess equivalent does very slightly better but not by much. At an average rating 3 to 3.5 out of 5 - put it this way, I'd never book a hotel or holiday much below 4.5. My question is, are P&O really that bad and I should steer clear or are cruisers just super picky and harsh critics?
  20. We are UK resident new-to-Seabourn cruisers off to the Norwegian Fjords in the summer. Have read with interest the posts on referral coupons on this site and think I almost understand the system. So, does anyone have a coupon which we could use/share? Would at least help those of us who have to otherwise use the puny £ sterling! Tucruisers
  21. NOTE: Had to repost using the word CARNIVAL CRUISE. Sorry about that. I was floated away. My bad ( insert shame face ) Tell me/us about your perfect day on a Canival cruise. It can be what HAS happened or just the dream of a perfect cruise day. You may be winning big in the casino, at Bingo, or getting engaged. Whatever your perfect day may entail. Mine is super easy. We wake up while it is still dark. We make our way to upper decks. Maybe, just maybe the coffee if already out. If not, it will be soon. DH is hoping the tea is out already LOL. We stand together waiting for the first pinks or whatever color we will be blessed with today. We watch the sun come up seeing the water change colors as the light beings to make the water sparkle. We do our laps around the track, some stretches, maybe dare to try the exercise stops out on the deck ( Horizon had those last time ) Breakfast is at Blue Iguana for me. DH hits the fruit, bacon or maybe an omlett. It is then time to grab a good book and head to a nice lounger to take in some Vit D. We try to read but the water in front of us is far too mesmerizing and calls our attention. We laugh and remember past cruises, talk about the kids, etc. After several hours, we find a hot tub or maybe the pool for a few minutes. Then, back to the sun to dry out before heading down to make that lunch salad or grab a Guys Burger. Now, it is time for some shade so I don't become a lobster. The book is a bit more interesting at this point. But.....my eyes become droopy as my tummy is full and the sun is warm. I finally surrender and go to the cabin to take a little nap in AC comfort. My cabin was cleaned early morn in anticipation of my needed siesta in the early afternoon. Up and time for a shower and mosey around the ship. Maybe do the stairs up and down to work off the dinner I anticiapte this evening. We may catch a trivia contest or just find a quiet spot to reflect, to rest, just to be. Soon it is time to change for dinner. What's that? The sun is beginning ot set. Gotta get in on that magical time of the day!. Good Night, Sun. The My Time Dining apl has signaled our table is ready , and we have 8 minutes to arrive. I am thrilled to see that my fav West Indian Pumpkin Soup is on the menu. Thai chicken is also one of the appetizers of the evening. I like coffee WITH the meal, not with desert. My coffee is being poured with cream on the table. Entree....hum.....this is a hard one. DH will have Spaghetti Carbonaro for sure. I will have....maybe the Jerk Pork Loin. Dessert - DH will have his Choc Melting Cake or a scoop of butter pecan ice cream. None for me please. I will take just a bite of his. Now time for a last stroll around the deck, some star gazing, maybe have the little drink at Bonzi Sushi I like...Tokyo Sangria or something like that ( heavy drinker here LOL ). DH has his drink. Soon it is time to be gently rocked asleep so we are up early for the next sunrise. Pretty boring maybe, but the perfect day for me.
  22. Hello just wondering if anyone has stayed in an inside cabin on deck five below the smokehouse? Were there any noise issues? Thank you.
  23. We cruise Royal without kids and have found it to be very enjoyable; we do generally avoid the school holidays. As mentioned, the outdoor adults only pool is unique to Icon at this stage (and in fact, was a last minute switch if I understand correctly). We are looking forward to experiencing it in May. As also mentioned, that leaves you with Icon or the soon to launch Star on the assumption this holds true on all Icon class ships. For the Oasis class ships, as also mentioned, that leaves you with only the Solarium for adults only pool areas. I will say we generally do not like "indoor" pools either, but while the Solarium is "mostly" closed but it's not entirely closed such that it provides sufficient airflow and openings not to feel claustrophobic like other closed pool areas. You could also take a look at the Voyager or Freedom class ships which have an open air solarium.
  24. We just came off of our first Oceania cruise about two weeks ago. I'm still trying to form an opinion as there were good and not-so-good things that occurred. The Vista was beautiful and our Penthouse suite was immaculate thanks to a great butler and housekeeping team. Food was a real mixed bag with Red Ginger as the star and Polo and Toscana as just okay. Our steaks were overcooked and maybe we just ordered the wrong things in Toscana but both of us found the food lackluster. The main dining room we found sort of strange in the fact that it was nearly empty by 8 pm and the food seemed a bit overcomplicated compared to normal fine-dining restaurants or other more premium lines. The big surprise for us was the buffet which was not only very good for an outside lunch but was really nice at night. It wasn't crowded, the tables were set beautifully, and the chef did a few specialty meals. One was a Mexican theme since we were in the area and another was a sushi night. Burgers at Waves were very good. This is a problem on a few lines like Celebrity so I'm happy to report this. We liked Aquamar Kitchen and had most of our breakfasts there. Here are the things that fell apart for us: Upon embarkation we received a note that one of our shore excursions had been cancelled and we should go to the desk to rebook. When I went to the desk I was told there was nothing available and I could get on a wait list. So there was one day with no excursions that were "non-refundable". We skipped our last port due to weather and guess what...another day of "non-refundable" shore excursions cancelled. It seems that they need something in place to at least give us a shipboard credit to use at the spa or on drinks, etc. since both of those were on their end. We only got to go on one excursion during the 7 day cruise. I understand they are calling this a "free" credit but that was part of the deal we paid for so it just seems wrong. The other thing that was bothersome for us was the lack of service at the pool areas including the spa deck. Knowing that sea days are very busy it seems they need more staff cleaning up dirty drink glasses etc. around the pools and the sun loungers at the main had towel covers which people sat on and were not changed frequently by staff so it was hard to find a clean lounger at times. There was virtually no service at all on the spa deck. it would have been nice to have someone with cold water, drinks, towels like other lines do. I still have questions as it was a nice cruise and staff were great but I'm comparing to our previous Silversea cruises and a few Celebrity Retreat that we tried last year. I'm considering going back to Silversea but I'm worried that it might not still be the same as the last time we cruised with them as it has been about 5 years. I'm still looking at Oceania along with other high-luxury lines so if anyone has a recent comparison experience I would welcome the information.
  25. Since Star Clipper did not provide any information until 8 days before my cruise I decided to give a recap to help others sailing Costa Rica what I can offer. Any questions ask and I will try and help out. Flying blind on info on where and when to board, transfers, excursions before and after until I was packing to leave. Flew in 2 days before cruise and stayed at Doubletree by Hilton Cariari and could not have made a better choice. Free transfer from airport and this is a beautiful hotel with vegetation and buildings that made sure I was in Costa Rica. Nice bar and restaurant and everyone was nice and room was clean and large. Loved this hotel. San Jose can get chilly when sun goes down and it is always windy so plan a jacket. Checked numerous transfer companies and decided on Morpho tours as all were close in price and I paid $149 each way for 1-5 people and they were prompt to return my emails and answer any questions I had. Both drivers were great and to port he took us over the mountain and back we took main road. On that road traffice heading to port was backed up due to construction on side of road. We arrived little after 1 PM and they were taking our luggage and took our paperwork and we were free until 4 pm when they took us to ship by groups. Usual check in on ship and got keys and left passport and were free to do whatever. Ship is what I expected as have been on Star Flyer in past. Heard there were 80-90 of us so no lines ever and dining room was quieter due to not being full. Stops were designed for excursions from ship and I was not planning on doing these and usually walk off ship and find enough to peak my interest but this trip was a challenge. Quepos was let off at a marina which was nice and visited restaurant/bar and overlooked the boats and water and had lunch. Some others said there was a small town but I was not aware of such as cruise director did not supply much info which was helpful for any stop. Golfito is very small and found one nice restaurant/bar (La Playa) on the water and had a fine time with some friends from the UK and Germany. Bahia Potrero we were let off on the beach and go to the right and there is a nice beach some went to and I went left to find a store to purchase some items needed and it was a long walk on black sand beaches of Costa Rica. Found the store and had lunch at Hemingway's which is on the beach and nice place with wifi. Isla Tortugas was fabulous and reminded me of the Caribbean and I really enjoyed the white sand and palm trees and little beach bar had umbrellas and chairs $14 for 2 and $7 for 1. Beer was $3 and many had coconuts or Pineapples with rum I think were $7. Hated to leave but it was a great last stop. Also on two stoops we had to take tender and near beach had to transfer to Zodiacs which can be dicey to be extra careful. As usual all crew were exceptional. Seas were calm and sailing was fine and usual climb the mast was a hit. I admit I expected Costa Rica's pacific coast to be like the caribbean which was not the case except for last stop- but that did not make me enjoy my time any less. Tennessee is not really freezing but nice to be in upper 80's and on the water. Saw one whale and others saw porpoises around front of ship. Guests were UK, Germany, and US and all were friendly and enjoyable to talk to and hear other's experiences. Loved Costa Rica and best for land vacation and go to National Parks and rain forest for birds, etc. Glad I went and Central America is one of my favorite places as I have been to Guatemala, Hondouras, and Columbia. If those going on a future cruise to Costa Rica have any questions I can answer please let me know and I will try to be helpful. Star Clippers needs to step up their game in this regard. Also, review all your paperwork as I was supposed to get 4 hours free wifi when I booked and when I got on board it had changed to 1 hour. Did not realize until after trip so check your paperwork. Safe travels to all and the Clipper did carry Imperial, Costa Rican beer on board for those who enjoy beer, as the old saying goes "if you travel global--Drink Local".
