I am going to post the cruise compass' first and then will type a review on the cruise. I will then add a review of the land portion. Feel free to ask any questions. I will try to answer then to the best that I can. 5. HEY friends. anyone booked on the to be referbed Radiance. for june 2020?? i haven't seen many post. and since its not even dry docked i know it'll be few n far between.
  6. Anyway, here is the pdf of the spreadsheet, sorted by ship across the major cruise lines. Use it or don't use it. Your choice. Note the change of ranking by Victory vs Radiance. Most importantly, because of the thread this is in, note the position of the Mardi Gras. Ship space sorted by ship.pdf
  7. Heard rumor some changes were made to Colony Club area on several of the Radiance class ships. Wood removed, remodeled, specialty restaurants added. Please tell me this is not true.
  8. Price! 😂 We decided based on amount of time in HI, islands visited, and total price. We were willing to do a longer cruise if the price was the same or better. We knew we wanted to go to Kauai and not all ships stop there. We booked over President's Day weekend when it seemed like every cruiseline website was having a sale. I priced out regular balcony cabin on Pride of America, a Celebrity ship, and Radiance of the Seas all for the first 2 weeks of May 2020. POA was their usual 7 night route for TWICE the price of Radiance - BUT Radiance was a 10 night sailing from Honolulu to Vancouver. Celebrity was about the same as POA and for 11 nights. With the money we saved on the less expensive cruise on Radiance, we can put some money into a pre-cruise stay at a nice hotel on Oahu, plus excursions. So we got an amazing price on a 10-night TP cruise, and can still afford to stay on Oahu 4-5 nights before the cruise and do fun excursions for the same cost as what just the cruise would have cost on POA.
  9. Would someone please post the week's cruise compass for the southbound Alaskan cruise? Thank you so much for your help.
  10. We're doing our first Alaska cruise on the Radiance next month. We are thinking of trying the Chef's Table, which would also be a first for us. I know in general Alaska cruises are more casual, even on formal nights, but wondering if Chef's Table has a stricter dress code. DH would prefer not to pack his suit, so would a dressy collared shirt and tie be enough? Also, while I'm asking, has anyone done the Chef's Table and is it worth it?
  11. Shore Excursions: I attached the shore excursion brochure that was in our room the first day. We did the land tour before boarding so we did not focus too much on doing a bunch on the ship. We had done a few excursions on land so we only chose to do a few of the ship-based excursions. I will review the land portion later. In Juneau we did the Mount Roberts Tramway (bought an all day pass at the tram for $35). The trip to the top was fun to look out and see the sea planes flying below you. There are a couple of different trails at the top as well as a little nature center, restaurant and gift shop. The short trail is about 1/2 mile and is a good leg stretcher after being on the ship for a few days. After spending an hour or two on top of the mountain we went back down and just wandered the shops and visited a couple of breweries in town. In Skagway we did the White Pass Railway and Skagway Highlights tour. They picked us up on the pier and took us by bus to the train. Along the way the bus driver gave us a little bit of a tour around the town. There are a few locations around town where the trains load and depending on which tour you are on depends on where you load. The train then took us up and through the area where the gold rushers traveled to get to the Yukon and beyond. The scenery is amazing and there are some really steep drop-offs for the faint of heart to experience. We did see moose and bear along our train ride. Once we crossed into Canada we loaded back onto our bus and returned to Skagway. The bus driver (same one that picked us up) gave us a good narrated tour on the way back and took us by a few sights including the gold rush cemetery. We were then dropped off either in town or back at the ship (individual's choice). We stayed in town and visited the two breweries there. In Icy Strait Point we did not do any tours. It is a little dock area with a few shops and restaurants spread out over about 1/2 mile. If you want to go into the town of Hoonah you can either take a bus or walk the 1.5-2 miles. The dock area was a good spot to watch eagles fly and watch the zipliners come down over your head. There is a rope course set up in the trees at the dock for those looking for a little adventure. In Ketchikan we did the Alaska's First City Highlights and Lumberjack Show tour. We loaded up on a bus on the dock and were driven through the city given a narrated tour. We stopped at one of the totem parks in the city and spent about 30 minutes learning about the totem poles and wandering around the small park. We then loaded back onto the bus and were taken to the lumberjack show. The lumberjack show pits the USA versus Canada in a lumberjack challenge showdown. Each team competes head to head with the other completing lumberjack activities. There is a little showmanship involved and the the lumber jacks are talented. It is a fun show to watch but don't get your hopes up to high for the big burly guys. After the tour we just wandered around town and visited the brewery there (seeing a pattern yet?). In Vancouver we paid for the airport transfer from the ship ($21.95 per person). This had us disembark as one of the last groups of of the ship so we had plenty of time to have breakfast on the ship and relax in the room before leaving. We had to collect our bags from the terminal and take them through the Canadian customs area (very simple pass through). After exiting customs we were led into the bus area and handed our luggage to the staff to be loaded onto our bus. We were given a short tour through the city on the way to the airport (about 45 minutes). We were then unloaded at the international flight area of the airport to check-in for our flight. One thing we learned here was do not put your passport away until you are on your plane. They checked our passport at every stop throughout the airport (check-in, US Customs and before you boarded the plane). Getting through the airport was fairly fast for an international flight. 12. We had the same questions as OP last year. So we decided to do Ovation in 2 weeks and then board Radiance for the northbound with land tour.
  13. Is there some limit to how much i can post in a given amount of time? Having issues getting images to post to https://boards.cruisecritic.com/topic/2660632-trip-report-may-24-2019-radiance-of-the-seas-seward-vancouver/page/2/ after making several successful post there today. It simply fails to display an image when doing what has worked all day.
  14. Hi, Can anyone tell me on what night the waiters, chefs and staff do the whole dance around the dining room during dinner?
  15. Hi. I'm looking for some help for my sister. She is going on a cruise that was booked by her in-laws. It looks like they are in an ocean view room on deck for possibly 4012 room. It' s 2 adults and 2 children ages 2 and 6. Does anyone have some pictures of the rooms. The last cruise they got stuck with bunk beds which she didn't like and weren't able to use with the kids. I did check on the website. States 3rd and 4th Pullman bed avaliable . Is that pull down beds. I don't think they would use them. Would the room be set up as 2 singles with the 2 pullmans down. I think my sister was hoping for 1 large bed for 3 of them with either a small couch or a cot. Any theories or photos would be a huge help. I think she's feeling overwhelmed having not planned it herself. Thanks.
  16. Actually, the first half of this is completely incorrect -- safe (good) sushi actually requires the fish to have been frozen to a certain temperature to ensure all of the parasites have died: freezing fish at temperatures of -4 degrees Fahrenheit (-20 degrees Celsius) for seven days, or frozen at -31 degrees Fahrenheit (-35 degrees Celsius) for 15 hours, which kills any parasites Furthermore, it's worth noting that almost ALL of the sushi rolls served at Izumi (not including the sashimi/nigiri which is a different type of sushi) are cooked in one form or another -- from rolls with tempura shrimp, to unagi (eel that's been grilled) to smoked salmon (smoking it is a form of cooking). It's all been cooked! Lobster roll, the steak roll, the spider roll (soft-shell crab) -- all cooked!! We were on Radiance in April/May and we were able to dine on the a la carte whenever it was open. And I can confirm, the sushi at Izumi is delicious!
  17. Can someone please post the Cruise Compass for the Radiance of the Seas Northbound Alaska & Hubbard Glacier. TYI!
  18. We bounce between Celebrity and RC. When cruising with RC we will only cruise on the Radiance, Voyager and Freedom class ships. No mega ships for us. The Radiance class ships are our favorite.
  19. Did the same cruise on the Radiance in 2007 but couldn't do a land portion as we had to get back to work. Hoping to go again. We will spend about 12 days on land before boarding the Radiance for 34 nts to circumnavigate Australia, stopping in Bali, Tasmania, and in New Zealand. The Radiance ships are favorites, plus the Quantum class.
  20. how was the ship?? i have seen mixed reviews on her refurb.. the radiance is her sister so should be mostly the same
  21. As a solo, I find any of the lines I would consider (ie: NOT Carnival or NCL (except for Hawaii)) to be roughly the same price for equivalent cabin space. And living in NYC, you could not pay me to see a watered-down (has to be to fit into cruise line timeframes) “Broadway” show. I purposely sit on the end on RCCL so I can make a quick escape - and honestly don’t bother most of the time (I don’t do the mega behemoths - Radiance Class is the biggest RCCL I will do) and doubt I will bother with Equinox “entertainment”. I’d rather find a quiet place to curl up with a book. But that is why there are options for everyone.
  22. Very disappointing work by the cruise director Cruzin Susan. Tomorrow our first day in Maui absolutely nothing going on except for a dance party. The cruise compass looks as baron as a desert. No headline show , no production show just throw up a movie and job done.
  23. Oasis Class has much more. Majesty has less. Different RC ships have different amenities, food options, sports facilities, entertainment, prices - all different. Quantum class, Freedom class, Radiance class, Sovereign class are like four different cruise lines.
  24. How long does Serenade of the Seas (or Radiance class ship) take clear when arriving to Boston for the first time following a Transatlantic sailing? I'm on the Sept. 10 5-night cruise to Bermuda. 5 years ago I was on the first Oasis cruise from Fort Lauderdale following her transatlantic sailing from drydock. Took a long time to clear ship and didn't get to board until well after 3pm. Since Serenade is a much smaller ship, I'm hoping it doesn't take that long to clear. Thanks
  25. We just booked an Australian cruise as part of our Oz holiday for hubbies grand retirement sailing from Brisbane Jan 2021 !!!!!
