  1. We just watched Radiance sail out of Tamps (4-4-24), and yes, there was the wall ... aft deck12....with the sign "Samba Grill". And yes....last time we were on Radiance (Jan. 2024) we used our D+ BOGO at Samba. We are booked on her again in March of 2025...hope Samba is still there.
  2. For Radiance, the Cruise Director is Marvin Wilson. 🙂
  3. " Royal Caribbean International has once again reached out to guests booked on the April 4, 2024 sailing of Brilliance of the Seas following a technical issue with the ship’s propulsion that cancelled the ship’s March 30 cruise. Just days ago, travelers were assured that the April 4 departure would move forward as planned, but now the cruise has been delayed and the itinerary shortened with a significantly different destination. Guests are being offered generous compensation for the change, however. Despite an earlier notice reassuring guests that the cruise was intended to set sail as planned, Royal Caribbean International has now reached out to passengers booked on Brilliance of the Seas‘ April 4, 2024 departure from Sydney, Australia, with the unfortunate news that the cruise must be shortened. Instead of departing on Thursday, April 4, as planned, the sailing is now delayed until Sunday, April 7, and will have a dramatically different itinerary due to the loss of time. “While repairs for the technical issue that we encountered on one of our previous sailings was completed, during routine testing, we discovered that we’re going to need some extra time to get the ship ready for you,” the email explained. “As a result, your Brilliance of the Seas 4 April 2024 sailing will now set sail on Sunday, 7 April 2024 as that is the earliest date we are able to secure a terminal in the Port of Sydney.” The cruise line does not detail what the “extra time” is needed for to prepare the ship to welcome guests, and it is unclear whether it is a separate technical issue or may be related to supplies or other factors. The overall delay is attributed to berth availability in Sydney. Checking the cruise schedule for the port confirms that Celebrity Cruises’ Celebrity Edge and P&O Cruises’ Pacific Adventure are in port on Friday, April 5, followed by Holland America Line’s Noordam, Princess Cruises’ Royal Princess, and Pacific Adventure again are all docked on Saturday, April 6. No other cruise ships are currently on the schedule for Sunday, April 7, so Brilliance of the Seas would be able to use the terminal that best suits the ship’s size and passenger complement. The April 4 sailing was originally planned as a South Pacific cruise, visiting Noumea and Lifou Island in New Caledonia as well as Mystery Island in Vanuatu before returning to Sydney on Friday, April 12. Because it takes two full days at sea to reach those destinations, however, the original itinerary is no longer feasible with the shortened timeline. Instead, Brilliance of the Seas will now be visiting Hobart, Tasmania for an overnight call from 8 a.m. on Tuesday, April 9 through 4 p.m. on Wednesday, April 10. “The temperature in Hobart is going to be between 16-19 degrees C (61-66 Fahrenheit), so we recommend packing some warmer clothing for your time in port,” the cruise line is advising guests. Hobart is approximately 1,800 miles (2,900 kilometers) southwest of Noumea, the southernmost port of call on the original itinerary. The two destinations have radically different climates, and in comparison, the temperature in Noumea on April 9-10 is forecast to be 22-29 Celsius (73-84 Fahrenheit). Because of the shortened itinerary and radically different destination, Royal Caribbean is offering significant compensation to guests. All travelers will receive a 50% refund of their cruise fare, as well as a 50% future cruise credit for another sailing. Likewise, pro-rated refunds for daily packages – beverage packages, internet access, and dining packages – will also be processed. Any pre-paid gratuities will also be pro-rated for the shortened cruise length. As is typical when a port of call is changed, all pre-paid shore tours booked through the cruise line will be refunded to guests as refundable onboard credit. Of special note is that Royal Caribbean is also discounting drinks for the voyage as a special thank you for guests’ understanding. “We want to enjoy our upcoming days together, so we’ve opened the bar at a discount!” the email said. “All drinks will be at a 50% discounted price.” Guests who have already paid for beverage packages will receive a 50% refund of the package cost back as onboard credit, in addition to the pro-rated refund for the shortened itinerary. Airline change fees up to $250 (USD) for domestic travel and $400 for international travel will also be reimbursed, and likewise, hotel costs up to $250 per night for up to three nights before the sailing will also be reimbursed. If guests booked flight or hotel arrangements through the cruise line, their travel arrangements will be adjusted automatically. Finally, all travelers will still receive full credit for the original 8-night cruise in Royal Caribbean’s Crown and Anchor Program, ensuring that their loyalty does not go unnoticed despite the fact that the cruise will now only be a 5-night voyage. This sailing is Brilliance of the Seas‘ last roundtrip voyage from Sydney for the season. The next departure – April 12 – is a 16-night one-way trip to Honolulu as the ship begins repositioning to Vancouver for the Alaska sailing season. The 90,090-gross-ton, Radiance-class Brilliance of the Seas will not be returning to Australia for any upcoming deployments, but instead will move to New Orleans in October, and in 2025 will offer seasons with multiple departures from Athens, Boston, and San Juan." 4. We were on Radiance of the Seas in 2015 when four passengers missed mid day departure from Reykjavik, Iceland. Next stop Harwich, England.
  5. I did the 10 day radiance to Panama and other ports and we had 10 different menus. American night they offered a hamburger which is what I ordered. They do have 10 different menus, I'm sure as I experienced it just different ports. We also had UK night. Mushy peas and such. Nothing to write home about. But they have enough menus for each night even without lobster night. I cant name all 10 menus ... but they do have 10 menus.
  6. We sailed Radiance Vancouver to San Diego last September and 2nd seating was 7:30. They seem to do that in Alaska. Don't know why
  7. Who is the cruise director on the Radiance of the Seas after its dry dock.
  8. On our last 2 Alaska cruises, on Radiance and Brilliance, in Juneau we always dock at the furthest dock from town. Holland America, Princess, Celebrity get the berths closest to town. So if Royal always books a berth last, that’s why they get the furthest dock from town? I thought Princess pays more to get the dock right in town.
  9. Was Recently on the Serenade of the seas, we instantly fell in love with the Radiance class, What Beautiful ships, and she shined as if a few years old, incredible crew, best layout ever, was a sold out New England cruise, yet, it was never crowded! Just got off the NCL Getaway, worst cruise ever, couldn’t find a bar stool half the time, couldn’t get into the venues, needed a reservation for everything, even MDR, you received a beeper, and got a 40 minute wait, we will never go on a Breakaway class ship again, and will be trying to catch these smaller ships while we still can, shine on Radiance class, truely classy ships
  10. Hi, Sue! Here are my answers: Q: Are the headliners and ships singers and dancers still up to the same standard as normal for Radiance ships ? Do they change round the pub singer and other 'round the ship' musicians regularly? A: They have had folkloric shows in many areas around the world, and then will have headliners like a Beatles group who are all from Australia when we were in Australia, or general headliners like magicians, comedians, or singers. But they also have the Royal Caribbean singers repeating the same shows (which I know that's what they know -- but after seeing the same or very similar show two or three times, we don't bother going now). The pub singer and other musicians generally have stayed for a long time. Some of them have changed by now, though. Q: How often are the menu's repeated? A. It's a 28 day menu -- you'll usually see the same thing regularly (like a Cesar salad and a strip steak) and then other items appear only once in a while. Q: Does the Captain hold regular Q@A sessions? A: Both captains have had a few. It's called "Captain's Corner." With Captain Stig, I think it was just the captain talking, but the two I've gone to with Captain Kjell have also had other officers with him answering questions. Q: Do they have guest lectures? A: Regularly, and I consider most of them to have been excellent. We've had a photographer who is knowledgeable about a variety of topics and world areas; we've had a geologist; we had a husband and wife team who portrayed Presidents and First Ladies who were related to Hawaii becoming a state; and of course many travel experts who talk about what to see and do in the upcoming ports. Lots of variety of lectures! Q: And finally as a lowly Diamond on a ship full of Diamond + and Pinnacles is there any chance we'll get to use the Crown Lounge or indeed might the whole Viking Crown area be roped off for happy hour when we join in Barcelona . We love the Viking Crown bar for a drink pre dinner. A: Diamonds can use the Crown Lounge. At night, they will divide the area so that the Crown Lounge is larger to accommodate folks. In the morning, you can get espresso there along with some food items, and they also have evening food items. I was Platinum when we started and I'll be Diamond Plus by the end of April, and I personally have only gone into the Crown Lounge maybe ten times. It didn't ever seem crowded to me. I don't think you'll have a problem enjoying your before-dinner drink. 🙂
  11. Thanks for the updates and photos @LadyZolt and @CSHS1979 Can I ask some questions about life on board to anyone there or who has been on part of the cruise. Are the headliners and ships singers and dancers still up to the same standard as normal for Radiance ships ? Do they change round the pub singer and other 'round the ship' musicians regularly? How often are the menu's repeated? Does the Captain hold regular Q@A sessions? Do they have guest lectures? We love the Viking Crown bar for a drink pre dinner Thanks for any replies 😊 I would love to know how day to day life works on this unique cruise Thanks, Sue
  12. Recently on Radiance class, where the machines are at the back of the Windjammer, at times you could serve yourself and other times a crew member was there to serve you. Haven't been able to serve yourself on any other ships we have sailed lately.
  13. Ah, but the radiance of wisdom maturity brings. If only we had that light in our youth.
  14. Quite unlikely anything new is added to any Radiance or Vision class ship during drydock.
  15. For anyone that has been on Radiance since it's recent drydock. Did they install Coca-Cola Freestyle machines, or is Radiance still without? Thanks!
  16. We were on Radiance last Oct for the Panama Canal cruise and missed all ports on the pacific side due to weather and got not port fees returned. I guess they just applied it to the $348k fee to go through the canal…. 😵‍💫
  17. We sailed Radiance 28 days last year. Chops on Radiance far surpassed food and service on other RCL ships.
  18. Possible Chilli but I think it will be most likely Radiance Class!
  19. Just spent 20 days on the Radiance. Ate in Chops several times. We had the filet, fish and lamb chops and all were very good. Food and service were some of the best we’ve had on any Royal ship. Food and service in Giovanni’s was also excellent.
  20. I see in the updated booking conditions starting 2 April it mentions Trans Atlantic, Trans Pacific and Round Australia cruises in the non refundable booking deposit section. Maybe Radiance or Serenade for Oz 25/26.
  21. I have not eaten in an RCI specialty restaurant in too very long a time. I'm sailing on Radiance on April 8th, Panama Canal. Please recommend to me some "never fails" menu choices, as I am sailing with my best friend, and I want no disappointment for the upcharge. Please comment on appetizers, mains, and desserts. Thank you for helping me show my dear friend the best possible good time. If it matters, we will be looking for an early reservation. I so very much appreciate your recommendations. Leslie
  22. When I did the 10 day radiance we had a new menu every night. So I'm sure there are at least 10 different menus.
  23. Samba on Radiance last month was AWESOME. Server, food, everything.
  24. We ate there on our early February 2024 cruise on Radiance. We walked in for our 7:45 reservation and were one of only 3 couples in the restaurant. We were the last to leave around 9:00. Food was really good, but too much. Only ate about half of what was served. Would do it again.
  25. Thanks you for replying! We have the UDP on a few Radiance cruises later this year and hope to visit Samba for several dinners! Enjoy your cruise! Hope the Radiance was refreshed!
