  1. Getting a head start on the trip report. Our cruise planning report can be found at... DW and I are retired and have only cruised a few times in the Caribbean and this is DWs 1st time in Alaska. We're doing a DIY 8 day pre-cruise prior to ship boarding in Seward.
  2. We just got back this weekend from doing the 7 day Southbound on the Radiance of the Seas. We added the 3 day land portion on before this. I am going to post the cruise compass' first and then will type a review on the cruise. I will then add a review of the land portion. Feel free to ask any questions. I will try to answer then to the best that I can. 3. HEY friends. anyone booked on the to be referbed Radiance. for june 2020?? i haven't seen many post. and since its not even dry docked i know it'll be few n far between.
  4. Heard rumor some changes were made to Colony Club area on several of the Radiance class ships. Wood removed, remodeled, specialty restaurants added. Please tell me this is not true.
  5. We're doing our first Alaska cruise on the Radiance next month. We are thinking of trying the Chef's Table, which would also be a first for us. I know in general Alaska cruises are more casual, even on formal nights, but wondering if Chef's Table has a stricter dress code. DH would prefer not to pack his suit, so would a dressy collared shirt and tie be enough? Also, while I'm asking, has anyone done the Chef's Table and is it worth it?
  6. Would someone please post the week's cruise compass for the southbound Alaskan cruise? Thank you so much for your help.
  7. Hi, Can anyone tell me on what night the waiters, chefs and staff do the whole dance around the dining room during dinner?
  8. Can someone please post the Cruise Compass for the Radiance of the Seas Northbound Alaska & Hubbard Glacier. TYI!
  9. Hi. I'm looking for some help for my sister. She is going on a cruise that was booked by her in-laws. It looks like they are in an ocean view room on deck for possibly 4012 room. It' s 2 adults and 2 children ages 2 and 6. Does anyone have some pictures of the rooms. The last cruise they got stuck with bunk beds which she didn't like and weren't able to use with the kids. I did check on the website. States 3rd and 4th Pullman bed avaliable . Is that pull down beds. I don't think they would use them. Would the room be set up as 2 singles with the 2 pullmans down. I think my sister was hoping for 1 large bed for 3 of them with either a small couch or a cot. Any theories or photos would be a huge help. I think she's feeling overwhelmed having not planned it herself. Thanks.
  10. Very disappointing work by the cruise director Cruzin Susan. Tomorrow our first day in Maui absolutely nothing going on except for a dance party. The cruise compass looks as baron as a desert. No headline show , no production show just throw up a movie and job done.
  11. We have never sailed on Royal Caribbean on Radiance of the Seas. A friend is looking to travel as a single. When we look at OV availability with single supplement, the cabins showing available are very few compared to if two were to be in the cabin. Only Decks 3 & 4 are populating. One on 4 is midship, the others are in a strange small group just before the dining room. Anyone have thoughts around preference for quiet and best views? Are the tenders on deck 4 and in front of OV cabins? Thank you
  12. We just booked an Australian cruise as part of our Oz holiday for hubbies grand retirement sailing from Brisbane Jan 2021 !!!!!
  13. Does the ship offer any fresh Alaskan seafood during these Alaskan cruises? Is the MDR and specialty menu the same or similar to the Caribbean cruises? I can't seem to find any recent radiance menus.
  14. Going on the Radiance of the Seas in a couple of weeks and the Navigator of the Seas the following month, I would like to know if there are body wash dispensers besides the ones for the shampoo? TIA
  15. Looking to cruise with Royal Caribbean ex Vancouver Nov 2020 I have been reading about a Re furb for the ship Radiance of the seas which part of this cruise is on The Re furb to take place in 2020 butI can’t find the month Want to know the month of Re furb and if it will be done in time for this cruise I read this ship currently is very old tired and staterooms not in great condition Any help advice much appreciated Thanks
  16. Does anyone have any pictures they can post of the balcony in this particular cabin? I have it booked for Sept. on the Serenade, and I'd like to see if it is all covered or will get some sun. I prefer that it gets some sun. Thanks in advance.
  17. Are the aft cabins on the Radiance class ships very hot from the sun? It looks like there really isn't any overhang to help shade the room. I don't mind the sun on the balcony or on the door for a while in the am and the pm. I just don't want it hitting the door all day making the room hotter than those with at least a little overhang. This will be in the Baltic in May. We already have aft cabin 9660 which is deeper so I'm thinking that will help with the sun more than corner aft cabin 7172. What we do like about 7172 is the little/tiny wrap that it has to see to the side. Debating if we should change or not. Thanks
  18. Preface/Warning My trip reviews tend to be very long-winded and I’m writing this one as much for myself, to help capture the memories, as for CC readers. Therefore, some parts will undoubtedly be uninteresting to the general public. I’m also including photos for the first time and will likely post way too many. Hopefully, there will be enough info and interesting stories for everyone to make up for the more personal aspects. But if it’s too long or you find it uninteresting, oh well, my feelings won’t be hurt. Background My wife and I are both 40 and had cruised eight times since our honeymoon cruise back in 2002 (which was my first but my wife had cruised several times growing up), all on Royal, and all on Voyager class and above 7-night Caribbean cruises outside of one 4-night Bahamas cruise on Enchantment when we were sitting on 76 points and wanted to get to Diamond. So while we definitely know the ins and outs of cruising with RCI, Radiance and Alaska were very much new to us. This trip was entirely my wife’s idea and, as such, she did 95% of the planning and deserves 100% of the credit for taking me on an adventure on which I never even knew I wanted to go. As I’ve told her several times already, I can’t thank her enough for giving me a gift I had no idea I wanted. We rationalized it as a joint 40th birthday celebration but she came up with the idea a long time ago and got serious about it before our Caribbean cruise last June so that’s when we booked it onboard Oasis to take advantage of some NextCruise perks before they were scheduled to change on July 1st of that year. The fact that we both turned 40 between then and Alaska was more of a coincidence. The original version included a 6-day pre-tour through RCI but as my wife did more and more research she decided six days wasn’t long enough and RCI didn’t offer the flexibility that a DIY would. She’s way more adventurous than I am so even though I had no argument with her opinion, the structure and organization of going through RCI appealed to me. I only made peace with the DIY version after she found an outside company that was willing and able to help plan and book our entire trip from hotel rooms (several at properties they own) to train tickets to excursions. Our consultant, Sharilyn, could not have been nicer or more helpful with every aspect of our trip. The number of questions she answered via e-mail or phone had to extend well into the triple digits. Each new version of our itinerary came with a number attached and the final one was #58. She was even happy to give advice regarding the smaller things like restaurants. Of course she was doing her job and some sort of commission factors into her paycheck but we could quickly tell that she genuinely wanted to help create the best experience for us that she possibly could. My wife has even been in contact with her a few times since our trip ended. Our final itinerary was as follows: Two nights in Fairbanks at Pike’s Waterfront Lodge, three nights in Denali (two at the back of the park at the Denali Backcountry Lodge and one at the Denali Cabins closer to the front), one night in Anchorage at the Downtown Clarion Suites, two nights in Girdwood at the Alyeska Resort, and finally two nights in Seward at the Seward Windsong Lodge before boarding Radiance Southbound with stops at Hubbard Glacier, Juneau, Skagway, Icy Straight Point, Ketchikan, and finally Vancouver. On to the review…
  19. We are going to be arriving in Seward, Alaska on the Radiance on 6/21 and I'm looking at ground transportation options. The earliest, and most reasonably priced that I've found leaves the port in Seward for the Anchorage Airport at 8:00 a.m. Their website says they do this every day and that we will have no problem getting off the ship and to their bus by 8:00, but that makes me a little nervous, especially since they don't appear to have a later bus. The company is Alaska Cruise Transportation. Can anyone familiar with the debarkation process in Seward advise if it is reasonable to arrange ground transport for 8:00? Thanks in advance!
  20. Anyone already booked? So far we have two cruises booked for 2021 The Carnival Elation on January 9th and the brand NEW Carnival RADIANCE for February 13th.
  21. TYI! We are going on the Radiance of the Seas in 25 days, we have MTD and do you have to make advance reservations for dinner each night?

  23. I just checked the Carnival website for our May 30, 2020 cruise and it will not come up. We still had some family wanting to book. Do you think it could be sold out so soon.
  24. Gutting the old Victory and turning it into the NEW Radiance. We are booked on it for February 2021. First-ever Big Chicken restaurant at sea, serving up favorites from Shaq, Carnival’s Chief Fun Officer and huge fried chicken fan! It is to be open very long hours including all day breakfast. several different chicken offerings. Hopefully it turns out great and will be put on other ships. it is complementary.
  25. Just booked an 11-night on the Radiance- Sydney to New Zealand. The cruise is in January of 2020 and there is only one person on the Roll Call....which got me to wondering who my fellow passengers would be. Any idea?
