  4. We are starting to plan a return trip to Alaska. Our first one was on the Eurodam and we absolutely loved it. Just saw Oosterdam has a slightly different itinerary and a tad more expensive. So my question is has anyone tried both and which did you prefer and why? We just look forward to relaxing and try the different dining options.
  5. My wife and I just returned from an Alaska cruise on the Eurodam. I've scanned the daily "When & Where" activity guides for that cruise. I hope that some people who will be sailing on the Eurodam this summer will find it useful. Here's the link:

  7. https://www.cruiselawnews.com/2019/06/articles/cruelty-murder-of-animals/hals-eurodam-ignores-calls-to-reduce-speed-while-approaching-whales/ Article with video of eurodam apparently comming very close to a pod of feeding whales, being warned of it in advance and not slowing or steering away. Anyone currently on her that can comment?
  8. After sailing on other lines,we've now sailed on HAL twice, and now booked a sailing on Eurodam for January. I've looked at Youtube, and been impressed by what I see. For those that have been on her, what are the good and bad points?ts?
  9. Let me start by saying most of the really ugly had nothing to do with the ship. The good is the outstanding crew especially Guest Relations for service above and beyond. I know the reasons not to fly in the day of sailing but it wasn’t possible to fly earlier. My AA flight from PHILADELPHIA backed off the gate ontime and then it happened, we ended up with 2 mechanical delays on 2 different aircraft, bottom line we took off 4 hours late. We landed in Seattle at 2:40 pm and were told the ship was waiting but we couldn’t wait for luggage. It will be sent to Juneau and to buy what is necessary onboard. I had noticed but what I was wearing, sandals, t shirt, pants and a light sweater. Once onboard, the fantastic front office crew gave me an emergency toiletries kit. i had to buy a T shirt in the shop to sleep in .We wee offered free laundry with expedited service, but I had nothing to change into. There’s nothing like Gala night in the Pinnacle in a pair of dirty slacks and a long sleeve top from the gift shop. The really ugly part with the ship involved my cell phone . My charger was in my packed luggage, so I had to purchase one in the shop. The bottom line was either the charger was defective or the outlet in the cabin was bad and it fried my I phone. i ended up buying a prepaid cell in Juneau to have a phone for the week. My luggage showed in Juneau and I’m now walking to hear the status of 2 claims filed with Seattle for the phone and the onboard purchases. It’s an experience I never want to repeat, but again the crew , especially ABY from Guest Service and Julianne and Lizka from Shore Ex went way above to assist me.
  10. We are on the Eurodam in March of 2019, 28 days RT San Diego Hawaii/Tahiti. We have 15 sea days and have been thinking about the Retreat on the Eurodam. Have any of you booked one of the Cabanas? If so do you have a recommendation as to where to like to be? We were able to book the retreat on the K'dam a year ago on sea days. My DH and I loved the whole experience. I know the retreat is not for everyone but would appreciate any comments from those of you who have experienced the retreat on the Eurodam.
  11. This will be my first cruise with HAL. I cruised with Celebrity a couple of times and loved it. On both Celebrity cruises I was on an AFT cabin, Deck 7 for the first one and Deck 8 for the second one. For this Panama cruise on Eurodam. I tried to book an AFT cabin on Deck 7. The travel website I was using will not allow me to select an AFT cabin on Deck 7. The best I could do was pick a guaranteed VE cabin. I called the travel agent associated with the website to confirm that a guaranteed VE would be on Deck 7, hopefully port side too. The travel agent told me VE could be on Deck 4, 7, or 8. I don’t see any VE cabins on Deck 4 and 8. Anyone know where these cabins are or what I might end up getting?
  12. Eurodam will be at the AS dock from 1300-2300 and Nieuw Amsterdam at the CT dock from 1300-2200. Also in port are Ruby Princess at the FKL dock from 1100-2215 and Solstice at the AJ dock from 1330-2200. The nice weather continues with only a 20% chance of rain and a high of 66F/19C and a low of 49F/9C. Sunrise is at 3:52 am and sunset at 10:09 pm. The PTZtv webcam can be found at https://www.juneauharborwebcam.com/. Next up: Oosterdam on Tuesday.
  13. Hi there, we're just booking our first HAL cruise, an R/T Vancouver to Hawaii at the end of September and the category we're looking at is on deck 8. Directly above the stateroom is the Lido pool. My assumption is that it should be fine as we're not likely to have too many young kids but our other cruises have always had us on a deck that has cabins above and below. Has anyone had experience with cabins on deck 8 under the pool? Any advice is appreciated!
  14. does anyone know why the Eurodam was late getting into Seattle today, June 15. Ships usually arrive around 6 am but today the Eurodam arrived late afternoon.
  15. Making their regular Monday visit to Juneau are the Signature Sisters. Both are due in at 1300 with NA leaving the CT dock at 2200 and Eurodam leaving the AS dock at 2300. "Himself" will be on NA. Also in port are Ruby Princess at the FKL dock from 1100-2215, Solstice at the AJ dock from 1330-2200, and Azamara Quest tendering from 1330-2300. Another yucky day in Juneau with a 100% chance of rain. The predicted high is 57F/14C and the low 49F/9C. Sunrise is at 3:51 am and sunset at 10:07 pm. The PTZtv webcam can be found at https://www.juneauharborwebcam.com/. Next up: Oosterdam on Tuesday.
  16. We are looking at the partially obstructed cabins on deck 4 near the midship elevators. We have never considered this location before so any help will be appreciated. What is the noise level like in these cabins? We were thinking of a large inside but I recently learned that I really don't like not being able to see outside. Thanks Marcia
  17. Hello, I have a few questions for the partial view stateroom experts please: -I have googled a few reviews of these rooms and it looks like you stare out at ugly lifeboat/tender equipment, I'm assuming there is some type of view though? -Will tender prep wake us at some ungodly hour? -Any problem with noise from the shops below? -I noticed several rooms mid-ship are for crew, and I thought I saw the cruise director coming out of one once while waiting for an elevator; any noise issues since crew come/go at all hours? -I don't get the floor to ceiling window concept, is it for people to be able to see above/below and around the lifeboats? Did you like/dislike it? -Would you consider them to be a good value? What you book these rooms again? Or steer clear? -Anything else important to pass along. Thank you so much, happy Father's Day and happy sailing! (Forgive me if this has already been discussed, I have trouble searching for older threads since they revamped this site, so feel free to link). Many of the reviews were 10 years old too, so some info is no longer relevant, ie. the tv's are all different now I believe.
  18. What non-alcoholic beer is served on Eurodam / HAL? Although I still occasionally drink wine and liquor, I have switched to non-alcoholic beer. My fave is Clausthaler, with Beck's coming in second. http://www.clausthaler.com/ I have tricked my beer-loving friends into thinking Clausthaler is a craft beer. It's perfect when I "feel like a beer" or when I want something different than water, tea, coffee. Here in Texas you can find it at Specs and Total Wine (I always call first) and more rarely, some HEB grocery stores. I would guess that I could bring on my own non-alcoholic beer since... Via goog, on a 3'rd party web site about what beverages are allowed to be brought on board HAL >> Bottled Water and soda is also allowed (no limit) as long as you carry it on board with you on embarkation day. I tried to find answer to this on Know Before You Go PDF, but only saw the info about how 1 bottle of wine is OK then more at $18 per bottle. So much to read and learn as a first-time HAL cruiser!
  19. we have booked the Eurodam to Alaska the end of July. We cruise all the time (mid 40's couple)... but we like to hang out by the pool, have cocktails, listen to music while soaking up the sun.. Now that we have booked this Alaska cruise, I'm 2nd guessing and think I may get bored during sea days, etc... What is there to do during the day for people who normally like to party by the pool and soak up the sun? T.I.A.
  20. Hi all, Sailing on Eurodam for Alaskan cruise in August. Is there a way I can see what wines are offered by the bottle (and price). I adore Meomi Pinot Noir and typically like to have a glass or two with dinner. I was going to bring a couple of bottles and pay corkage but if the wine is already offered on the ship the price might be about the same as purchasing on my own and bringing . I am also planning on bringing a bottle of Rose for the cabin and understand that if consumed in the cabin one does not pay corkage fee. Thanks for any assist!
  21. With an unusual visit to Juneau, Maasdam gives us three HAL ships to watch. Nieuw Amsterdam will be at the CT dock from 1300-2200. Eurodam will be at the AS dock from 1300-2300. Maasdam will be tendering from 1400-2300. Also in port are Ruby Princess at the FKL dock from 1100-2215 and Solstice at the AJ dock from 1330-2200. We are back to typical weather in Juneau with a 90% chance of rain (1/4 inch predicted) and a high of only 56F/13C and a low of 52F/11C. Sunrise is at 3:53 am and sunset at 10:02 pm. The PTZtv webcam can be found at https://www.juneauharborwebcam.com/. Next up: Oosterdam on Tuesday.
  22. I just put a hold on a Eurodam June 15 cruise. We’ve cruised witH HAL several times (never aboard the Eurodam however). Never cruised with celebrity. How would these two different ships compare? I need to make up my mind soon. Thank you.
  23. I am looking at 8041 8045 and 8037 on the navigation deck. I can't tell from the posted pictures, is it easy to watch television from bed ? It is a strange question but that is how I fall asleep at night. Thanks Marcia
  24. We are looking at booking the Eurodam for a September, 2020 Alaskan cruise and Panama Canal cruise. We have cruised on Princess and Royal Caribbean with the kids. What can you tell me about the Eurodam? How does it compare to Princess? We were looking at a deck 6 Verandah balcony cabin. What is the best deck to be on? Thanks!
  25. Eurodam will be at the AS dock from 1300-2300 and Nieuw Amsterdam at the CT dock from 1300-2200. Also in port are Ruby Princess at the FKL dock from 1100-2215 and Solstice at the AJ dock from 1330-2200. There is a 50% chance of rain with the forecast for occasional showers. High will be 58F/14C and the low 47F/8C. Sunrise is at 3:59 am and sunset at 9:54 pm. The PTZtv webcam can be found at https://www.juneauharborwebcam.com/. Next up: Oosterdam on Tuesday.
