  1. We left MIA on Monday , May, 27th flying on a British Air 747-400 for our first transatlantic flight on BA . A train runs out from beneath the lounge to the gate . We were flying Business Class on the upper deck which seats only 20 passengers It has an unusual seating arrangement where one rides forward and the next seat backward facing each other . My seat facing my wife's seat and my foot rest Seat instructions
  2. Hi! I'm getting around to booking another Holland America cruise. I'm looking at the 10-day Panama Canal Sunfarer aboard the Zuiderdam. ALL of the aft-corner SB Neptune suites are currently available. Which would you pick? Thanks!
  3. I just saw the post about flowers and it got me to thinking that our daughter will turn 11 whilst on our transatlantic cruise - apparently there are few kids on these crossings - 5 last year I think. How else to people celebrate birthdays on-board? Anything special you would recommend either on-board or in Ålesund, Norway? We eat out a lot as a family - is there somewhere special on the Zuiderdam to eat out for dinner? Or would the MDR be better with our usual waiters? Hit me with your best suggestions 🙂
  4. The Zuiderdam will dry dock in early December. Does anyone know what is planned? We will be on the first cruise after the dry dock. Just wondering what to expect.
  5. Does anyone have the name and email addrress of the Ships Services Director of the Zuiderdam? Thanks!
  6. We will be sailing October 9, 2019. I read some posts that there is no longer singing and dancing shows on board. Is this accurate on the Zuiderdam? What do they have at night?
  7. My first visit to this beautiful Norwegian fjord town. Wonderful walking trails from the dock. I highly approve! These pics were all taken with in walking distance of the pier. There are three marked walking trails, one of which goes along a river connecting a lake to the fjord.
  8. I noticed the VB cabins at deck 10 Observation deck are not fully booked up as the rest of the veranda cabins (VA and VB are all gone in deck 4 and 5). Are these cabins less desirable? Only thing I noticed is that they are sandwiched between Explorations cafe and Sliding Dome Cover. Thanks in advance!
  9. I was surprised there is not already a roll call for this cruise. Please let me know if I overlooked ir.
  10. Can anyone who has been on the Zuiderdam recently tell me what kind of hairdryer they have! On the wall or regular one in a drawer??? I have thick hair and need a good dryer! Thanks
  11. As Club Orange rolls out, does anyone know if it’s on Zuiderdam yet?
  12. The Zuiderdam is currently being prevented from sailing away from Kiel , Germany . Protesters in boats have moved next to the ship blockading us from leaving .
  13. Hi there! My boyfriend and I are into dancing (think waltz, foxtrot, rumba...etc) and are wondering if there is any opportunity to do so on this ship? We are traveling the Baltic in June! Thank you 🙂
  14. Very excited about our Panama Canal Sunfarer trip. Do all staterooms have refrigerators? We need one for dietary needs. Three calls to HAL and three different answers. One person said the cabin didn't have one but we could request one. Then I got a form to fill out for "Special Medical Requests" which didn't work. I was then shuttled to someone in ADA Compliance who said he only handled medical needs not dietary ones. He transferred me to "Ship Services" who said Zuiderdam is a Vista ship and all rooms have refrigerators. Can anyone confirm this? Thanks.
  15. Is anyone doing the Zuiderdam on Sept. 15th to Canada??? It leaves Quebec City and then returns to New York City on Sept. 27th. It has many really nice stops. If anyone is going on this we are a couple in the mid 60's and would love to hear from you. Also if anyone has any advice or words of wisdom we would love to hear from you. I know its going to be chilly up there so we plan on bringing good quality hoodies and caps, etc etc.
  16. We are new to HAL - Wondering about the table set-up in the Dining Room on the Zuiderdam I see that there are two levels (?) Can you request a table for two ? - Are there many ? How do you do a request ? THANK YOU !
  17. It has been a few years since we have sailed on HAL. We love the smaller ships, however for the Mediterranean there appears to be two options that I am seeing for spring 2020 - Niew Amsterdam and Zuiderdam. I am looking at three different 24 day itineraries. Each double up their visit to ports we have been to previously with the B2B co-mingled. I think that our preferred itinerary may be sailed by Zuiderdam. I realize NA is the newest ship and that is attractive. That said, all three itineraries have bonus ports for us. Several we have visited and several we have not. We most likely will book a Verandah and all three are super limited on availability, therefore we need to decide quickly. Particularly with the latest promotion. Suites are just as limited in availability on all three. I would really appreciate some some input on these two ships - we don’t care about casinos, art auctions, photos, shopping, and honestly the entertainment is not huge although we typically enjoy a few shows. Food & restaurants, wine selections, our stateroom, our deck, outside promenade for walking are more important to us. Any insights or feedback would sure be appreciated. Thank you so much for assistance
  18. Warning: Public transport strike Netherlands May 28th effecting Zuiderdam visit to Amsterdam! A Public transport strike is planned for May 28th in the Netherlands. There will be 24 hours strike effecting all trains and also all city public transport in Amsterdam, Rotterdam and The Hague. Strike could be spreading to other sectors, they are related to the pension age, so affecting all working sectors in the Netherlands. If you do a ships tour, these most probably won’t be effected, but if you plan to go on your own, do not expect any public transport within the mentioned city’s, nor trains in the whole country. Also expect an increase in road traffic, due to the absence of public transport, more people will have to use cars, that normally would travel by public transport. News media in Dutch, but you can use google translate; https://www.nu.nl/economie/5881119/grote-staking-ns-en-stadsvervoer-in-drie-grootste-steden-op-28-mei.html https://www.ad.nl/binnenland/treinverkeer-en-ov-grote-steden-plat-op-28-mei~a8530fd4/
  19. Does anyone know if there are Mah Jongg game on board the Zuiderdam? Thanks.
  20. Will be taking my C-PAP machine on a 17 night Zuiderdam cruise. Are there electric outlets close to the bed? Do I need to bring an extension chord? It is a verandah cabin.
  21. We have never sailed HAL. But just booked a TA/19 day cruise for August of 2020. I’d like to know just what are the pros and cons of this ship? Has it been refurbished? And are the SS Suites worth the extra $ ?
  22. Two more of our HAL ships head off for the summer season in Europe. These two will be in port together May 3, 4, and 5. Nieuw Statendam will be at pier 26 (port to) from 0530-1600. She is headed out for a 14-day Azores and Normandy Expedition repositioning cruise. We will be waving goodbye to our fellow sail-away addict, Roy. Praia Da Vitoria, Azores (28 Apr 1000-1800); Ponta Delgada, Azores (29 Apr 0800-1800); Cherbourg, France (03 May 0700-1900); Zeebrugge (Bruges), Belgium (04 May 1000-1900); Amsterdam, Holland (05 May a0800) Zuiderdam will be at pier 21 (starboard to) from 0545-1600. Her 16-day repositioning cruise is also called the Azores and Normandy Expedition. Kings Wharf, Bermuda (24 Apr 0800-1700); Praia Da Vitoria, Azores (29 Apr 0800-1800); Cherbourg, France (03 May 0700-1900); Zeebrugge (Bruges), Belgium (04 May 1000-1900); Amsterdam, Holland (05 May 0800-1800); Copenhagen, Denmark (07 May a0700) Also in port are Adventure OTS at pier 29 (0430-1730), Carnival Conquest at pier 19 (0400-1600), Celebrity Edge at pier 25 (0600-1600), and Harmony OTS at pier 18 (0515-1630). Doubtless there will be some delays with four ships scheduled to leave at 1600. The PTZtv webcams can be found at https://www.portevergladeswebcam.com/ and https://www.ftlauderdalewebcam.com/. Next up: Zaandam on April 24.
