Just in case your use to the old hours Formal night..Some really dressed up others looked nice. Smart Casual..lets say it means a lot of different things to people Being hot it's been more casual I would say Blue Brothers show is a good one to see (new with Steve and Lee) Still lots of music around the ship Trivia and other games still played Some elevators and bathroom stalls out at different time....and they didn't build a center stair case...so just go with it...Relax..Enjoy! I've been on the Grand since 9-13, getting off 10-13 (plus sailed Grand many times) If you have any question I'll answer if I can.
  2. On the Grand 04/14 from San Fran. Since I still have an investment business to run, I’m going to need internet fast enough for calls from my iPhone as well as moderate email/data updates. I don’t need streaming and I won’t be on it all day. Suggestions?
  3. So, first time I'm sailing on Princess. Grand Princess out of SF next January. When I go to purchase internet access online, the only option is "In Cabin Calling to Shore" (10 minutes for $49.50). I understand this is an older ship that doesn't have the latest and greatest connectivity, but it's incredibly vague as to what I'm actually purchasing. Ship-to-shore calling (don't need)? 10 minutes of WiFi access (that would be crazy)?
  4. Was the removal of the barrel chairs and small tables in cabins fleet wide or are they still on some ships? I'm sailing Friday on Grand Princess and would like to know if they were left on after the refurb.
  5. Can someone please define "Tableside Preparations" as stated on Princess website for our Club Class Minisuite, Hawaii cruise Nov. 2019. Does this mean I can expect a tableside prepared and tossed romaine lettuce, fresh egg, Caesar salad in the traditional style? Or a hand tossed spinach salad with tableside warm dressing? Is this service provided in the main dining room?
  6. Hi everyone, My check-in time tomorrow is 1pm on the Grand Princess at Pier 27 in San Francisco. I've read that you can come earlier to sort of beat the crowds like around 11am or even later like 2:30pm when the crowds have died down. What has been your experiences? Thanks in advance!
  7. Hi Please let me know your inside tips for the Grand Princess Please share your favorite: spot, food, restaurant, inside tips, bar, favorite place, pool, secret place, etc also tips traveling with children All tips are welcome.
  8. Hello: we will be traveling with my 95-year-old mother who has limited mobility but can climb stairs and walk with a walker. If anyone has been to Cabo, can you tell us if we should expect any problems getting off the ship, taking the tender, and getting off the tender in Port. Also any suggestions for limited mobility activities for shore excursions would be appreciated. Thx.
  9. It's been 17 years since we were last on Grand Princess so my memory is a little hazy. Are there footstools on Caribe deck balconies? TIA
  10. At the moment the price on Grand Princess is about 20% less than Coral for the same itinerary (Whittier to Vancouver) and same room class that I would book. I am thinking that Coral is probably a little nicer however is it worth 20%???
  11. We have found a 30 day cruise on the Grand where we can actually afford booking a Penthouse. But there is a $20 per person per day difference between an aft-facing one and one found in the center of the ship. From what I can tell from the website description, the ones in the center are approximately 76 sq ft larger than the aft-facing ones. Are the views from the aft-facing penthouse suites really worth the additional cost or is there something else we are missing?
  12. Does anyone have any up to date photos of either L301/302 - am especially interested in whether the sofa now coverts into an extra bed or if they still place a roll-away into the room if you have 3 people? Thanks
  13. Greetings everyone! We are less than a week from departure and so it is time to get this "Live" up and running. I will be traveling with my wife and this is an anniversary cruise of sorts. We embarked on our first cruise together, 12 years ago this summer. That trip was also a 10 day roundtrip from San Francisco on the old Dawn Princess in the summer of 2007. Most importantly, we got engaged the night before we departed on that trip. After I proposed, and she said yes, we had dinner at John's Grill in San Francisco. We are both experienced cruisers and world travelers, with 14 cruises as a couple completed to date. Generally, we are very relaxed when we sail, taking advantage of sea days for naps, walks on deck, reading and of course, eating. In port, we are planning on a mix of excursions and some on our own exploration. We have sailed to Alaska many times before, including a rather memorable pair of 7 days trips from Seattle separated by just a week. Our plan is to fly from Southern California to San Francisco the night before departure, have a celebratory dinner at John's Grill and then embark the next morning. Subject to internet speeds and the behavior of Tapatalk, the intention is to update daily and post pictures as possible.
  14. Any word on modifications being made to the ship or public areas this DD? Sailing 5/16 this year and excited to hear it will be freshened up for us.
  15. I am considering this excursion in Grenada on our February 2020 cruise. Can anyone who has done this advise how difficult this is? Princess notes on this indicate that you need to be in "excellent physical condition". Also, they note that hiking boots or sturdy shoes are needed. I'm wondering if a pair of the closed toe Keen Sandals would be sufficient for this trek.
  16. Getting ready for an Alaskan cruise on the Grand and would like recommendations on the best indoor areas on the ship that have great views. I loved Skywalkers on the CB, but the Grand doesn't have that lounge. I like a comfy, quiet area that I can go to enjoy the sea views without being cold. Thanks!
  17. We will be taking a 10 day Alaskan cruise in Sept on the Grand Princess and we are planning to pack light. Is anyone familiar with laundry facilities on board or cost to have items cleaned. Can't seem to find any information on Princess website.
  18. Hello, I am on the Grand in a few weeks out of San Francisco. I work 3 block from the port and would like to work up until I need to board. I see that the ship sails at 4pm but I do not see any instruction on when I need to be on board by. Can I board at 3:20 without any problem. I wanted to put in an 8 hour day at work. Thanks for your help, Liny
  19. It’s been a while since I’ve been on a cruise. Before the bingo games were on one square push outs ( folding down the number). I’ve read they now have machines. Do they also have the paper you fold the numbers? Or do you have to have a dauber? Or do they have the cardboard type you slide a window to cover the number?
  20. I've been on a couple Grand Class cruises (Ruby, Grand) and yes they are nice ships but seems like many here have the opinion they are the "do all, end all" Yes, I know promenade deck, Horizon pool......but getting long in the tooth to be honest. What happens when the last Grand Class is retired?
  21. Can anyone tell me the cost of a wine package...how many bottles, etc. I’d appreciate any info. Thanks!
  22. Two new Princess cruise ships to me. They are both coming to sail from Southampton in 2020 & 2021 What can you tell me about them good and bad, pictures too if you wish. What can I look forward to?
  23. This is my first time staying in an interior cabin. These 4 cabins look like a great choice for my next solo Alaska cruise due to location to lido and bigger size. Has anyone stayed in these cabins and has any thoughts about them? Is there much noise from the Calypso Pool above and is the extra room a big difference maker? I love the location and easy access to outside viewing areas because I normally have a balcony. Any other inside cabin advise for the Grand on an Alaska cruise, especially easy outside viewing access would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Jamie
  24. I have a question on the Sky deck there is the sport court and big chess board Ilove both pretending I can shoot a basketball (pretty form bad aim) and chess (im decent for a beginner but forget a lot because i got weeks and months without playing) are the used very much to be crowded at times? Going on a 14 day Hawaii in January on the aforementioned Grand. Just curious how much they are used.
  25. Does anyone remember which bottled water is available on the Grand? I seem to recall it was Calistoga. Recently on HAL it was Evian, so I thought maybe Carnival Corp. has changed. Also, Princess' Water Package seems to only be 12 500ml bottles. Has anyone seen liter or quart-sized bottles available? Thanks! Kathy
