  1. It’s time to start getting super excited about our upcoming cruise to Alaska on the Grand Princess! We have cruised to this part of the world a few times before and are looking forward to visiting this awesome place for the first time with Princess. We have booked some pretty cool wildlife excursions and will be visiting Glacier Bay National Park three times! 8-Day Inside Passage 14-Day Voyage of the Glaciers Date Destination Arrive Depart Date Destination Arrive Depart 4/29 Fly to Vancouver BC 10:30 PM 5/8 Port of Vancouver 7:30 AM 4:00 PM Fairmont Hotel 5/9 Inside Passage 4/30 Port of Vancouver 9:30 AM 4:00 PM 5/10 Ketchikan AK 6:00 AM 2:00 PM 5/1 Johnstone Strait 5/11 Juneau AK 8:00 AM 9:00 PM 5/2 Sitka AK 10:00 AM 6:00 PM 5/12 Skagway AK 7:00 AM 8:30 PM 5/3 Juneau AK 8:00 AM 9:00 PM 5/13 Glacier Bay NP 6:00 AM 3:00 PM 5/4 Skagway AK 7:00 AM 8:30 PM 5/14 College Fjord 6:00 PM 8:30 PM 5/5 Glacier Bay NP 6:00 AM 3:00 PM 5/15 Whittier AK 12:30 AM 8:30 PM 5/6 Ketchikan AK 9:00 AM 6:00 PM 5/16 Hubbard Glacier 3:00 PM 8:00 PM 5/7 Inside Passage 5/17 Glacier Bay NP 9:15 AM 7:30 PM 5/8 Port of Vancouver 7:30 AM 4:00 PM 5/18 Skagway AK 7:00 AM 8:30 PM 5/19 Juneau AK 6:30 AM 4:00 PM 5/20 Ketchikan AK 10:00 AM 6:00 PM 5/21 Inside Passage 5/22 Port of Vancouver 7:30 AM Fairmont Hotel 3:00 PM 5/23 Fly Home 9:15 AM Some of the wildlife we are hoping to see along the way includes migrating Gray and Humpback whales & resident Orcas, various seals & sea lions, a wide variety of birds to include Bald Eagles, and if we’re lucky maybe even a bear or moose, all the while surrounded by awesome scenery everywhere! 2. Does anyone know if this cruise route hugs the coastline or is it further out to sea ? I was wondering if cell phones are close enough to cell towers on land ?
  3. Was wondering if anyone has stayed in one of these inside cabins and can comment on the noise coming from the theater below? I know there will be noise but curious as to how bad it could be. Thank you!
  4. I will be going on my first Princess cruise aboard the Grand. I have tried the search function to no avail so.... Can the balcony dividers be opened between cabins on his ship? Travelling with family and would like connected balconies if it is possible.
  5. TLDR; Does the Grand have cabins on certain decks that seem "newer" and more "refreshed" compared to other decks? I'm 90% certain I'm going to book a Caribe deck cabin on the Grand to take advantage of the extended balcony. My 10% uncertainty stems from my recent experience with the Caribe deck on the Ruby (another Grand class, as you all already know). Maybe it was just luck of the, unfortunate, draw but our stateroom was really dingy, all light bulbs were dim, carpets were heavily stained, bathroom floors looked like a car shop floor, the list goes on. I want to clarify that this has NOTHING to do with the exceptional service of our steward, he even warned us as we approached the cabin for the first time that he apologizes the cabin looks dreary but he assures us that anything that seemed dirty is just stained and battered. Maybe it's because it's a 4-person cabin and gets a lot more wear than other cabins? On the second leg of this B2B on the Ruby we moved up to Aloha and it was a night & day difference. It was like I was on a new Royal class ship. Brand new carpet, bathroom fixtures, everything was pristine not only in that stateroom but even out to the hallways (wallpaper, hand rails). Is this the same case on the Grand? I can assure you I do not spend my vacation fixated on if my stateroom looks new vs old. What I did notice though was that it elevated my experience a bit more when I came back to my cabin for the night and everything felt nice and shiny. Lighting plays a big role and it was nice not having to question if I can lay my toothbrush on the brownish sink counter ha! Just a little comfort feature is all. Anyways, let me know if this is the same case on the Grand or if you have any idea what may have happened on the Ruby. Perhaps some decks were prioritized in the dry docks more than others?
  6. Is there a problem with strong smoke smell with these cabins? They are located next to the casino. We have stayed in window suites on the Golden Princess, but they were not next to the casino. I know there is a hidden hallway with a door. I am hoping that is enough of a barrier to keep most of the smoke out of the staterooms. Thanks so much. jan
  7. For those who are interested, current status of the following on Grand Princess as of today: Lotus Spa Pool-Drained since 9/23 Neptune, Conservatory, and Aft Pools all open. Spa Hot Tubs open but jets broken. Conservatory Hot Tubs open but jets broken. Aft Hot Tubs open but jets broken. Neptune Pool Hot Tubs open and jets working. Lotus Men’s Steam Bath broken. Lotus Men’s Sauna working. Lotus Women’s Steam Bath working. Lotus Women’s Sauna working. Just a lot of broken jets in hot tubs if you like those like we do and the Lotus Pool area where we like to hang out is very disappointing without water in the pool.
  8. Grand Princess is now 26 years old. Is she still ship shape?
  9. Hi all - does anyone know if all ships have the same fitness classes? Does the grand princes offer cycling? We are wondering if cycling is an option for our princess plus fitness classes. Thank you.
  10. I have usually book directly, deck 8 (Emerald) mini suites on Grand class ships. With my last reservation on the Ruby mini suite cabins on deck 8 were not an option. Does any one know why?
  11. I booked an Interior Guarantee Cabin aboard Grand Princess recently. I've booked Interiors many, many times before on a range of Princess ships and have never before had an issue with the layout. I was initially advised that ALL the Interior cabins on the Grand could be configured as twin singles or queen bed and also that some had 4 berths... 2 of which dropped down from the side walls. My booking was for a queen bed configuration. When I embarked the Cabin (Plaza 227) was configured as a twin bed bunkroom i.e 2 singles made up with 2 drop down beds folded away. I advised the Cabin steward and housekeeping steward that I required a queen bed and was told that the room couldn't be successfully reconfigured to a queen as I'd hit my head on the bunk beds when entering or exiting the bed because there was insufficient accessway either side of the queen bed. Also that there was only one bedside cabinet (with 2 fixed bedside lamps) designed to go between the 2 single beds..... pushing the 2 singles together in the centre of the cabin meant there was insufficient room to one side for the single bedside cabinet which would then have to be placed sideways meaning the drawers could NOT be opened! The option of a single bed, potential brain damage from bashing my head on a protruding folded bunk and an unusable bedside cabinet resulted in my agreeing to have both singles pushed together hard against one wall beneath the overhanging bunk. This allowed a wider walkway down the other side of the bed and also gave sufficient room to have the single bedside cabinet facing the correct way. This left it almost impossible for the poor steward to make the bed without climbing all over it and of course allowing entry to the queen bed from one side only! Definitely NOT an ideal situation and I don't believe Princess should be marketing these particular cabins as suitable for a Queen configuration so have posted this in the hope that it may help someone else in the future 🙂 The first pic shows the cabin with the queen bed centered and the second with the bed pushed to one side to allow better access (for ONE person) and the use of the bedside cabinet drawers!
  12. I sent an email inquiry to Princess in February....yes, it's now March (after several resent attempts). I apologize for the PDF format, but there was no other way to transcribe the voice message that Robert left. This was my phones AI attempt at "translating" voice to text. I wanted documentation to take on my next cruise. Feel free to print and take with you also. Very interesting that "Robert" called me instead of replied by email. I didn't pick up the unknown number (not Princess) so it went to voicemail. Bottom line: There is no concierge's lounge on Grand/GEM class ships (I knew that). Suite passengers do have access to a concierge through guest services (I knew that too). If you have PLUS or Premier, you will not be charged the $5 Room Service Delivery Charge for ordering off the MDR menu. concierge services redacted.pdf
  13. We will be on a 7 Day Alaska, Northbound cruise in August (148 days!!! but who is counting). We are comfortable with our "excursion" selections. And we feel we have our dining set. What was your experience during the same cruise? What recommendations do you have for the Sea Days? We figure we will do a lot of sitting on our balcony during the while traveling the inside passage. But what activity got you out of the cabin and exploring the ship? We do plan on attending the National Park Service enrichment talks. But what else you recommned? Did something sound good, look good on paper but when you got there was not as desired, expected or hoped for?
  14. Upfront I realize this request may be outrageous or impossible but if there is such a place I'm sure this group will be able to provide me the best options. Family going on Alaskan cruise this summer on the Grand Princess. We do have a balcony room (port side) Dolphin deck. Looking for recommendations of where to go during Glacier Bay/College Fjord for best viewing (unobstructed if possible with little crowds). I understand it takes some time for the cruise to get to these locations and camping out all day watching the scenery go by may not be an option (but if it is let me know!). Thank you in advance!
  15. I’m looking at the Grand for May 2024 in Alaska. I know it is the oldest in the fleet, but would like to know if there any drydock or refurbishment planned between now and May 2024. Finally looking to resume cruising. Yay! TIA
  16. My husband had gastric bypass surgery so he cannot eat alot. I am curious if we could share a meal in Crown Grill or if both people must pay for their meals if we did not purchase the Premier plan.
  17. Hello. We are looking to book a Hawaiian cruise on Ruby out of San Francisco or Grand out of Los Angeles. Pros and cons of both ships and ports, please? What should a first-time Princess mariner know?
  18. Hi all, We are going to be sailing on the grand princess in Alaska for a family member’s milestone birthday. Is chef’s table worth the $95pp price, or would we have just as good of a dinner at one of the two speciality restaurants? If we were to do one speciality dining experience over the week, would you recommend chefs table and crown grill? Are both worth it? Is the chefs table menu the same week to week on the grand princess? Is it the same menu on each ship? If it is the same, I’d love to see a recent menu if anyone has one. Thanks so much.
  19. Looking at the 2024 Grand Princess to Tahiti from LA for 33 nights...but not sure about the ship, given its age and not-so-great recent reviews - but the itinerary is amazing.... So, would you go for it or take a pass, given the ship. Would love to hear from some recent Grand travellers! We aren't fussy people, looking at a balcony or mini-suite - don't need a whole lot of bells and whistles! Appreciate the input!
  20. Pretty much as the topic states. My wife and I are in the process of trying to book our dinner times for our Alaska trip on the Grand Princess. We were thinking 7pm each night based on the times of our various ports of call. But we were trying to find out what times the evening shows are in the main theatre. Not having much success locating this information. Any one have ideas on that time or some recent princess patters that may show it? Thanks!
  21. Good day! I am finally booked for my next Princess cruise in May 2025 to Alaska. I am booked in C242 a forward balcony and just wondered anyone’s experience with forward balconies in Alaska. I usually book more midship, but this one fit into my requirements mor for this trip. thank you and I cannot wait until next year and sharing my experiences!
  22. Well, I'm currently on the Grand Princess in Fiji and there has been absolutely no AC on most of the ship, including cabins, the dance floor, stores, restaurants, hallways for 2 days. To be fair I felt limited AC in the art space, but definitely not normal. I have cruised on 30 + ships. This has been the worst experience for me. This ship is sad in other ways, too. But, no AC in a hot place is dreadful.
  23. Anyone that may have been on the Grand Princess recently, still have a library and does it have any books? Been on a couple Carnival ships and found you better bring something from home. Thanks once again.
  24. Thinking about a mini suite on Grand Princess. LA to Hawaii on December 3, 2024, 16 days. As I understand Grand class ships have uncovered mini's. Specifically on Grand Princess mini's are on two decks: Emerald (8) and Dolphin (9). Emerald mini's have covered balconies - and are sold out on this sailing with no wait list any longer available. Thus, only option is Dolphin mini's - which are all uncovered balconies. I can think of some pros and some cons - I'd welcome any pro and con ideas from the community.
  25. I disembarked last Monday from a Grand 7-nighter out of Melbourne. I attended the Crown Grill one evening courtesy of my travel agent A few years ago I had a disappointing speciality meal at Jamies on RCL, however, the experience last week left that in the shade. Once seated, I sat there for forty minutes without being offered a drink and had difficulty flagging down my waiter to ask for one. No wine list was presented and I wasn't chancing asking for one and waiting further. The meal arrived eventually and after a disappointing soup, my main course of lamb chops followed. The first one I tried couldn't be cut without effort but the other two were more acceptable. At this point the Maitre'd appeared and asked how things were and I told him. He offered to arrange for a replacement chop which I declined and that was the last I saw of him that evening. With my unfinished meal sitting before me for some further time, no other staff member appeared, so I left in disgust. Two days later, I happened to be sitting beside the Hotel Manager at the Most Traveled Guest Luncheon and when I told her about my experience, she saId that it was unacceptable and that was that. Luckily, for me, the rest of the cruise was up to the usual standard I have come to expect from Princess.
