  1. Which deck on the Island has the larger balcony? I thought Caribe but it almost looks like the Dolphin decks are larger on the deck plan? Thanks in advance!
  2. Does anyone know the configuration of E733 or 732 on the Island Princess?
  3. Caribe Deck.......are the balconies standard size or half covered, half open?
  4. I have always wanted to visit Jerusalem and Israel, via a cruise. In Nov., 2021, Island Princess is scheduled to visit Jerusalem on a cruise that also visits the Greek Isles and some other Med ports. Of course, as luck would have it, we now have Covid 19, not to mention recent EU rulings concerning Americans, and other proposed regulations. I would love to hear anyone's experiences on Holy Land cruises. I would also love to hear any speculation about whether this cruise will eventually go for Americans, or not. Any thoughts on the Island Princess would also be welcome. (I know that the Island was renovated, in an unfavorable way. Would it still be OK if it is my only way to go on a Holy Land cruise?) Thanks in advance, all. Shalom!
  5. Does anyone have photos or know what the cabin configuration is for Cabin E733 on Island Princess?
  6. Princess spent the day transferring crew members between various ships to the Crown and Island ships. The Island is going on a 39 day trip starting tomorrow, around the South African Cape and on towards Asia, with the Philippines as the final port. One of the crew members that we have sailed with came off the Regal and got a nice balcony cabin for the trip. Because he is a transfer between ships, he goes into 14 day quarantine for now. After that he will be assigned duties and get back to work. No idea of any port stops for fuel & provisions along the way. Not 100% certain if it is the Crown, but one ship is taking crew back to Europe, final port uncertain. I'm going to try and stay in touch via Messenger and I'll post anything else that comes up. Not sure if their WiFi will work well away from the States and the Caribbean areas.
  7. I know this boat is older and not as big as many cruise ships, but does it feel cramped and small? Does it feel like too many people in too small of space? Over crowded dining rooms, theaters, pools, etc?
  8. Is there an observation deck on Caribe deck of the Island Princess? How does one access it?
  9. I had an old link describing the good and not-so-good balconies on the Island and Coral. It was from 2013 so not a surprise that it doesn't seem to work any longer. Does anyone have a newer link? Thanks! http://mysite.verizon.net/res76zxu/princessbalconies/id6.html
  10. RT - FLL/PE - guess we'll have to pass on that for now at least ...
  11. Island Princess shows 2 Obstructed View Balcony cabins on Deck 8 forward. I was wondering how they compared in cost to a Premium Ocean View cabin so I was doing a mock booking at the Princess site. I can't find any way to get pricing for those cabins. They don't show up when I select Balcony so I tried selecting Ocean View. Nope. I tried Interior and Mini Suite just to be thorough but I can't find any way to select those two cabins. Can anybody tell me how to see Cabins E207 and E208 on Island Princess? They clearly show on the deck plans but aren't "selectable" under any type of booking I can figure out. I'm likely just having a senior moment and it's not really important but it's annoying.
  12. Can anyone with recent Island Princess usage advise on internet speed please.
  13. Help. please!! It's been quite some time since I have sailed on the Island or her sister, the Coral. Considering a minisuite on Dolphin deck, but need to know if those balconies are covered (hopefully), or uncovered as is true of many other Princess ships. I need to know for sure before pursuing this, and doubt that Princess agents are apt to know with certainty.
  14. On some ships, the balconies on the Carib deck are larger than others. Are there any balcony larger than others on the Coral/Island?
  15. Welcome to my “Live From” travelogue of the fabulous Island Princess 59-day circle South America cruise. The last 2 winters my wife and I have spent a good part of the winter bouncing around the Caribbean doing multiple cruises on multiple Princess ships. We were planning to do the same again this winter when I came across this voyage. My wife needs an accessible cabin and every time last spring when I checked they were all booked. Finally, I talked to a cruise travel agent I had used before and in a couple hours we had a cabin. To start I’ll give a little of our personal history in order to give some perspective of where we are coming from an experience point. We are a couple of Canadians, lifelong in Toronto, 66 and 64 years old. Our first cruise was a 5-day Caribbean cruise on Royal Caribbean in 2000. We now have 1 Carnival, 4 RCI, 1 180-day world cruise on Oceania as well as 46 Princess cruises with Princess totaling 496 days. My wife (Freda) will be using a wheelchair around the ship and in ports. We recognize how very fortunate we are to be able to still have cruising as part of our lives. For her, much of this voyage this will simply be a wonderful escape from winter weather as she will be staying on the ship in most ports. My hope is that through this travelogue readers will get an idea of what experiencing a grand voyage is like and that you will feel that you are actually experiencing part of this special journey with us. Hopefully for those planning a similar future adventure it will also help them. Maybe with this report I can convey some of our impressions and take you with me to South America. Maybe it entices you to go and experience the excitement of this journey yourself. It's all part of the payback for all the help I've received here on Cruise Critic. Some of my post will be on the long side but for me it serves as a permanent record which I need considering I have a photographic memory but with the lens cap glued on. We get some free internet as Princess elite members, but on a long voyage (3 segments) the minutes go fast so I will start with a few post in order to get some details out of the way.
  16. We are interested in learning about cabins PR712, PR716 on Island Princess. Never sailed Island and have heard conflicting opinions about her; we will be on the ship for 28 days so my cabin (sanctuary) is important to me. Thanks
  17. DH would like to know if there is a library on Island. Or should he just load up the Kindle?
  18. We are thinking of booking Vista suite A726 on Island Princess. We have a few questions we wondered if anyone could help with please. Firstly is there any noise issues as the "Camp Discovery Youth Center" is nearby and can anyone confirm that although on the side this cabin has a wrap around balcony to the aft. Any other information about this cabin or it's situation would be very welcome.
  19. Does anyone have pictures of a mini suite on Island they can share? I am wanting to see what the main area of the cabin and the shower looks like. Upgrade fairy came and like to know if should take a mini suite
  20. The last couple of cruises I have gone on, we have had the medallions. I'm used to them and like it. My next cruise is on the Island Princess. Is the Island using the medallions or just the regular old cruise card? Thanks!
  21. Very disappointing to read that this is in fact what is happening right now on the first Royal cruise north of the season - they went west around Vancouver Island (reported in a different thread). We planned our trip to leave out of Vancouver precisely to be able to sail through the Inside Passage vs. out to sea. Perhaps I missed it but I don't recall seeing that disclaimer in the itinerary description when we booked in November. I do believe it was marketed as an "inside passage" cruise. Do any other ships that originate in Vancouver head west of Vancouver Island? Is anyone currently on board Royal able to comment on this change in itinerary? Was there any sort of announcement? We are still excited about our upcoming trip and certainly won't let this spoil it but had really hoped to enjoy some beautiful scenery on that first full sea day instead of looking out at Pacific ocean from our portside balconies. Many people have said that the Royal is just too big for Alaska - could this be the reason for the change in itinerary or was there any other specific reason given? I'm just wondering if this is going to be the norm for the Royal.
  22. Greetings! What nights are formal nights for Island Princess for the 10-day Panama Canal cruise? I did my due diligence in contacting Princess and searching this forum. Princess did not give any information. Also, does anyone have a current Patter for the same? Thanks everyone in advance.
  23. We were upgraded to an oceanview minisuite on the Island for our upcoming Tahiti cruise (C202). I have not found any pix or videos of this style cabin. I have seen the videos of a balcony minisuite. The question is the space on the other side of the sofa where the balcony would be. Is it just open space with full length windows? Any furniture added to the area? Extra chair? Hopefully still has at least 1 chair. Any pix or videos you can send me? patrickmoran150 at gmail dot com. Thanks
  24. We are currently on the Island and dining in the Club Class area on this cruise. However, on our next two on the Island, we will be dining in the MDR. We’ve noticed on this cruise at 5 pm, when we like to dine, there is a LONG line waiting to be seated in the Open Dining section when it opens. Because of this and since we like dining at a table for 2, we’re thinking on future cruises we should try to reserve an early fixed seating table for 2 which on the Island is in a separate dining room directly above us. But we’re curious, what is the reason why there are so many folks in line when the Open Seating MDR opens at 5 pm? Is it because you need to reserve those early fixed seating tables for 2 at least 12+ months in advance or is there some other reason for this?
  25. Just cannot find this. Someone who has been on the Island Princess recently. Where is Trivia played and bingo? Do they offer pads with 36 cards In addition to the paper cards? The max best offering on the Sky was $69.00 You got the pad, 3 paper cards for 4 games and a $5.00 scratch off. If you can remember. How many bingo sessions did they have on the Panama Canal 10 night cruise? Needless to say we do bingo and love the trivia. Always nice to see how much I do not know. Like Jeopardy. Many thought the $69.00 was expensive. That lasted at least 45min. $69.00 in a slot might last as long as 5 min. If your are lucky, maybe 30min. So we did not think it was that bad. The winnings were a good amount. The very last morning coverall was for a free cruise, in the afternoon coverall was for $2,700.00 three people shared that. Nice! Thanks
