  1. Greetings CC brains trust 🙂 Does anyone have any information about the Sea Princess and possible upgrades / dry dock happening before she starts sailing again? I notice that her sister ship, the Sun, has both a new Koi Seafood Bar as well as SHARE by Curtis Stone restaurant... yet my poor Sea Princess still only has the Sterling Steakhouse (which is just a cordoned off part of the Horizon Court Buffet). The Sun class ships are my favourite Princess ship by far, but I'm feeling a bit disappointed that my poor old Sea is getting left out. Any clues? Thanks all! Cheers, Vickie.
  2. When we were on Sea Princess one year ago sailing around Australia, the poolside bar had been configured to serve draft beer. Has Sun princess been modified the same way?
  3. Need to ask for some help from you mega cruisers. We’re still newbies. We’ve been on the Coral and just love it. Our fav so far. We have the Sun booked for an Alaska cruise in 2021. First time on the Sun. Realizing that they are different ships (and I was reminded of this by a mega poster but with nothing beyond that single somewhat caustic reply) but I also see a lot of similarities when looking at the deck plans on the Princess website. In particular, the buffet on the Sun seems to resemble the buffet on the Coral. We found the Coral’s buffet to be light years better than those on the Grand Class ships we’ve been on. On the Emerald now. Ho-Hum.........Hoping the Sun is kinda like the Coral. Noticed the Sun isn’t Medallion Class nor does that seem to be planned. That’s OK. Also, no MedallionNet either on the Sun. As this is an Alaska cruise and so far north that MEO satellites aren’t going to work anyway, we’re OK with that too. Any and all other thoughts and opinions will be appreciated.
  4. Is anyone on board the Sun Princess? How bad was the COVID 19 riot? https://www.news.com.au/travel/travel-updates/health-safety/violent-protests-meet-cruise-ship-full-of-australians-and-new-zealanders-at-runion-island/news-story/bea212b73787a3691f3ed59f789134cc
  5. We will be cruising the 10 day Gold Coast cruise on the Sun on Easter. Does Princess do anything special, any special events or menu?
  6. I am new to Princess and am looking at Alaskan cruises 2021. The Sun princess is quite a bit cheaper than other ships. I realize it is an older ship but I am looking for opinions. Will I regret booking on the Sun? I really like the looks of the Coral but it is quite a bit more than the Star. I am looking at a 7 day out of Vancouver. This will be our first Alaskan cruise so I am trying to concentrate on the itenerary more than the ship. All opinions are greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.
  7. Hi All, I'm considering a cruise on the Sun Princess in a balcony cabin for around 14 or 15 days, and it appears they are pretty small. Could anybody here give me some feedback as to whether they are worth it? Cheers' Rick
  8. Posted on Princess website the MODIFICATIONS & CANCELLATIONS are listed for the Sun Princess, Sapphire Princess & Diamond Princess. Here: 02/10/2020 Health Advisory on Coronavirus 02/10/2020 Letter from CDC to Diamond Princess 02/10/2020 Caribbean Princess Itinerary Change 02/09/2020 Updates on Diamond Princess 02/08/2020 Guest Experience on Diamond Princess
  9. We are planning to book the 28-day circumnavigation of Australia when bookings open for 2022. Assuming that will be on either the Sea or the Sun. Can anyone tell me where the smoking areas are? Since I can't seem to get my husband to quit that nasty habit, we try to book a cabin somewhat close to a smoking area. Thanks for any help! Lynn
  10. Just booked an Alaska cruise on the Sun for July of 2021. Never been on the Sun but its general layout seems nearly identical to the Coral. We love the Coral. Sun doesn't appear to have MedallionNet presently operational nor on the list of those ships scheduled to get MN or OM. Normally we'd pass on a ship not having MN but given the fact that the sailing to Alaska is so far north, MD isn't likely to work anyway. Interested in thoughts anyone may have on the Sun in general and on sailing to Alaska. I'd prefer the Coral but the timing of the Coral sailings in 2021 don't work for us.
  11. Has anyone stayed in a suite on the Golden Princess Sun deck (15)? Because this is the only grand class ship with cabins on the Sun deck, I cannot find much information about these cabins. Any feedback would be appreciated.
  12. I've done a fair number of 4 or 5 night Pacific Coastal cruises on various lines (Princess, NCL, HAL), and I'm looking at one for late June/early July of 2021 on the Sun Princess. The price is right (it offers the "Best.Sale.Yet." benefits, including the premium beverage package, which I would pay for anyway), and I like the size of the ship (2000 guests). I also like the time of year---warm and probably sunny on the coast but a nice break from the intense heat of southern Arizona). The only thing holding me back are the large number of negative reviews. However, most of the negativity seems to be directed to the abysmal port conditions in many of the southeast Asian countries the ship usually sails to (e.g., Cambodia) and to outbreaks of norovirus (which can happen, unfortunately, on any ship). My question is: is the ship itself in good shape? I know it's old (1995) but it was refurbished in 2018. Has anyone been on the ship since then? If so, I'd be grateful for any comments regarding the condition of the cabins and the public area and the quality (or lack thereof) of the food and service in the International Cafe, the specialty restaurants, and the MDR. Thanks!
  13. I have just returned from a wonderful five weeks in Europe which included a couple of days in Rome, four days in Malta, a great two weeks on Sapphire Princess on the Land of the Midnight Sun cruise to Norway and followed by ten days in the UK. We are a couple in our fifties who love to travel and usually travel a month or so combining a cruise and independent travel. We don't particularly like large bus shore excursions and try to organise independent tours or DIY where possible. We were blessed to be part of an active roll call where many members shared information, ideas and advice. There were also a number of members who organised independent tours. We even had a member who was on last year's Land of the Midnight Sun cruise who was wonderful with her advice and personal experience. I will start with a brief overview of our Rome and Malta visits as they are both cruise ports before I go on to the Norway cruise. We flew from Australia to Rome via Doha and arrived in Rome after nearly 24 hours of travel. We love Rome and have been there a number of times for up to a week at a time. This was just a quick visit on our way to Malta. As we had been there before there was no need to go into any of the big sites such as the Colosseum or St Peters but we just wandered around seeing some of our favourite places and visiting some of the less visited churches and sites. We popped into or past the Trevi Fountain, the Pantheon, the Colosseum, the Arch of Constantine and Piazza Navonna. I also had to visit my favourite statue in Rome - the elephant obelisk in Piazza Della Minerva just near the Pantheon.
  14. So, considering another Alaska cruise for May 2021 for a round trip and looks like there are 3 choices: 1). Sun out of Vancouver. This has 2 advantages. First, it looks like it goes up the East side of Vancouver Island, so it would do a “full” inside passage. Second, it goes to Glacier Bay during the timeframe we are going (for some reason, Emerald is also doing Endicott Arm as is Regal that week). Third, if we do this one, I may just go for the Mini-Suite as they are so much better on the Sun class. Also, for nostalgia, our first ever cruise was on Dawn Princess! The hesitancy on this is one, it takes more to get to Vancouver versus Seattle. Two, if we go with a regular room, the rooms are smaller and potentially more dated. Three, will they “re-North Americanize” the ship for Alaska? Right now, there’s no free soft serve and no pizza place. Potential deal breakers for the kids. Also, is the buffet as good as the other ships? 2). Emerald out of Seattle. Emerald is newer and has more food options and the rooms are bigger. The downside is that we did this exact cruise two summers ago on the Emerald. Also, it’s easier to get in and out of Seattle (I.e. Southwest Airlines)... 3) Regal out of Seattle Regal is the newer ship with the best buffet, plus, it has an Alfredo’s! However, we sailed her twice in the Caribbean this year, so not sure if I want to sail her 3 times in a row... I am kind of leaning towards the Sun, but the lack of pizza and free on-deck ice cream (two of my favorite things on a cruise!) do make me worry. Which would y’all go for?
  15. We are booked for August 14 ,2021 on the 14 night Alaska cruise ,round trip Alaska from San Pedro (Los Angeles area ) port ,in B310 mini suite. My question is directed to those who have had recent experiences on long cruises on this ship in a Mini suite . 16. Can anyone give me the e mail for these two ships please Thank you
  17. We will be sailing a 14 night Alaska cruise in August 2021 (booked in a mini suite ) What are the secrets we should be aware of on this ship ? how is the food & service & any other pertinent items ? TIA for your replies
  18. Is there a separate shower in the Mini-suite on the Sun Princess in addition to the tub? We would appreciate knowing. The verbal description and photos do not match. Thanks.
  19. Dec 18 ,2019 we booked a mini suite for this 13 night round trip Alaska cruise . We have been to all the ports during our past 6 Alaska cruises & inside alaska on our own land tours However , there is a new Canadian port ,Prince Rupert ;which is our last stop before the 3 sea days back to San Pedro . What are some of the best things that you have experienced at this port ? We have just 7 hours there
  20. We will be on the Sky at the end of January for a B2B Caribbean cruise. For the second leg (Feb 1, 2020) we will have to switch to one of those new forward PH (S4) suites on the Sun deck (around the retreat pool) from our first cabin. I know these suites are new to the Sky and I was trying to find some pictures of them. I've searched here and on the web but have struck out so far. Any help would be appreciated.....😊😊😊 Bob

  22. Anyone on board in one of these cabins in the front of the ship who can speak to how much movement you could feel being on those upper level decks and that far forward? Thanks!
  23. Thinking about an Asian cruise late 2020/2021. Singapore to Tokyo. Which ship do you prefer, Diamond or Sun? Heard the balconies on the Sun are metal and cannot be seen through while sitting. True?
  24. Does Princess offer a dedicated sun deck space for suite guests?
  25. I am going to book land of the midnight Sun. Would the port or starboard offer a better view.
