  1. Hello We were thinking of booking a cruise on the new Ascent until I read some people saying that they were hearing noises from their cabin at night, like someone banging on a pipe. These complaints were coming from both ships. A friend of mine got off of the Beyond last month and she said the same thing. So I'm wondering if it's just certain cabins or certain areas on the ship that are experiencing this noise or are all cabins hearing it? Your feedback, especially anyone who's been on the Ascent is greatly appreciated.
  2. I’d like input from anyone that has actually stayed in one of these cabins on either the Beyond or Ascent. I know most of these are classified as obstructive view cabins, and I’ve seen a couple of YouTube videos of a few. I’m particularly interested in cabin 8333 and wonder just how much this cabin is obstructed. One cruise website I often use does not have this particular cabin listed as obstructed. I’m wondering since it is not the end room, maybe it isn’t as obstructed as some of the others?? Any cruisers out there that have stayed in this cabin on Beyond or Ascent would be a great help with information! Thanks!
  3. Hi! My favorite part of Cruise Critic is reading the live reports. After being particularly inspired by @jam19872016's recent food-focused adventure, I have decided to tip my toe into the LIVE waters. We set sail on Sunday on the Ascent, but our vacation starts tomorrow when we fly to Ft. Lauderdale. I've been cruising for over 30 years, with my first cruise being on Sovereign of the Seas (in my opinion the most perfect ship ever built). After many years with Royal, we are now Celebrity Cruisers due to the food and entertainment, along with the reasonable ship sizes. We sail on average of once a year, and we sail in regular cabins as we just don't feel Retreat is worth the extra cost for us, so any experiences I share will be in the regular parts of the ship. We enjoy eating, so much of the focus on this live will be on food! This will be our third E-Class voyage. It is controversial, but I am a big fan of the infinite veranda. This will be our first cruise in a concierge cabin, bought simply because the financials made sense. Our last cruise was last April on Beyond, and while the entertainment was the best I have ever experienced on a cruise the food left a LOT to be desired. The food situation was so disappointing that we actually started looking into new lines. But I am hopeful based on more recent reviews that Celebrity has "righted the ship" and the food will be improved. We have 2 kids, 3 dogs, and 2 cats at home, so my husband and I are looking forward to a calm and fun week away from the chaos. 😉 I can't promise I will be quick with updates throughout the week, but I will try my best. Feel free to ask any questions you have and I'll try to get you answers.
  4. Hi How come they still offer fixed dining on the Edge class ships? In my experience on both the Beyond and the Ascent everyone has anytime dining once they board. I am trying to add a room to our reservation and I can only get fixed dining for the 2nd room while we have anytime dining. Should I be concerned or once we get on the ship it won't matter anyway. And if that's the case then why don't they change the dining up front when you book instead of saying anytime is closed out? Any insights would be appreciated Thanks
  5. Had a good cruise with 4 other friends. We liked our cabin as bed was by the balcony. Fine cut steak was excellent. My filet cut like butter. I know there have been good and bad reviews on this restaurant but we all enjoyed it. Buffet was good, enough choices, just wish the food was warmer. Desserts all around the ship were terrible. In Blu, service was good, food just ok. Cold rubbery pancakes for breakfast! Dinner choices were not always to our liking. Service was good everywhere on the ship. Shows and entertainment were just ok. The last night was Residency and was great. Last sea day was big buffet and that was good. It was a good cruise but the only thing I can give a 10 to is service. We have been on all the Edge class ships numerous times and our expectations were too high IMO.
  6. I just got a great upgrade deal from a concierge to a guaranteed suite, which turned out to be an aqua suite on deck 10. However, it is the one most forward and is a little obstructed. I did a search here and on the internet in general, and it seems like the obstruction isn't bad but the bridge can see down on you? I'm asking my TA if it's possible to switch because there are other open aqua suites very close to that one. But I just thought I'd see if anyone has been in one of those rooms. Either way I'm going to be very happy. It was a very good price for the upgrade to a sky suite, and with the aqua now I can try Blu too and use the spa. 🙂
  7. Hi. I booked cabin 8291 on the Ascent and was wondering if anyone stayed there if there is a walk through to either starboard or port side. It looks like there is a hallway to either side. Any information will be great. Thanks
  8. Everything is relative and the past is the past but there are three Ascent sailings that have reasonable— by current standards— suite prices. All three are under $400pppd for a Sky Suite, or about $5,500. On the 12/1 sailing, the Sky Suite is less than the Magic Carpet suite. As I promised, I will tag my previous fellow E-class sailing friends. @Mrs_Tiki, @GenerationX, @Irishredhead21, @KKB, @Silkroad. Currently we are suppose to be on the Oceania Vista during that time, but that may change for other reasons. mac_tlc
  9. Hi, I just booked my first suite on the brand new Ascent! It was a suite guaranteed and we got a middle cabin assigned but quickly moved to 7112, which has the balcony and window on the side! Does anyone know where the bed is located? Right or left? By the balcony or bathroom? I'm so excited for this cruise! Thanks
  10. Was on Ascent the week of March 24th with the kiddos and had a great time. Heard there were around 400 kids on the ship, and noticed a wide age range from infants to high-school aged kids. We were on Beyond last year and Ascent is virtually the same. The food on Ascent seemed better. Oceanview buffet was great, and only really seemed crowded on the last day for lunch with the seafood buffet. We ate at Le Petit Chef, Eden, and Rooftop Garden Grill. The kids liked the animations of Petit Chef and ate the food, but I wouldn't say it was kid friendly. Eden was good but the music from the bar (a solo guitar player) kind of killed the vibe. Rooftop Grill was the best, plenty of food, you could order as much as you wanted - the steak was the best. We ate in all four of the main dining rooms. We had 6 PM reservations for each night but showed up between 5:45 and 6 and never had a wait. Dinner in the dining rooms did take long and averaged over 90 minutes, but lots of down time between courses (especially desert). We had the classic drink package and stuck with beer, wine, frozen drinks and coffees and never received an up charge. Entertainment was good, this was the first cruise after Luigi (Cruise Director) left for vacation. We didn't attend any of the large production shows, but the comedian and magician were a hit. The kids club was crowded (as expected), but unlike we experienced on RCCL a few months ago, they did not have a capacity limit. The staff there was great and would take the kids to the boarding area on deck 2 to play games and run around. We had two adjoining IV cabins on deck 8. On the second to last night we were apparently moving fast to get around some weather and the creaking and moving of the cabin was very loud and woke us up. Other than that, no issues.
  11. Is it possible to get a kettle in a balcony cabin? we like a coffee when we wake and not when room service decided to come. thanks
  12. Onboard Ascent. Yesterday at Cellar Masters ordered a champagne. $17/glass. NP. We have Premium package. Tonight, same place, same Champagne, both DH and I had to sign for it. Bartender said started today. having to sign for it. Didn’t apply to other drinks. Hmmmm??? Very interesting Bill showed 0 charge 0 gratuity.
  13. In the Celebrity app it appears that Le Grand Bistro is open for lunch on embarkation day. Can anyone verify that this is the case? We are sailing on the Ascent next week and would like to eat there as soon as we get on board the ship. Are any of the main dining rooms open for lunch on embarkation day?
  14. Hello all, woukd anyone that has been on the ascent would have any menus that show the Champagne by the glass that are offered on this ship ? FYI we’ve got premium package and are wondering what I’d offered and if we are 4 ordering will they just bring a bottle as well ? thanks all
  15. I have been checking on the speciality dining reservations every day for this sailing hoping to schedule early dining and all I see is “nothing yet check back later”. How early do they make this available to purchase? Has anyone else seen this type of message for upcoming cruises?
  16. Just back from a wonderful week aboard the Ascent. A little background before I start my review. Wife(62) and I(63) took are second Celebrity cruise. Both have been on Edge class ships and both have been in suites after being successful on MoveUp bids. This was our seventh cruise overall, with the others on RCI, Princess and Carnival. I'll start with the ship. She was beautiful. Every venue was wonderful. We spent most of our time in the Retreat, in Eden and at the Martini bar. The ship rates 10/10. We stayed in a Celebrity Suite. A beautiful room. Lots of room, a great split bathroom and a really large balcony. Our Butler was terrific. We saw him every day when he brought coffee and a fruit plate every morning. He left treats every afternoon(strawberries, cookies, crackers and cheese, etc.). Our room attendant was awesome. I still don't know how he knew we out of the room, sometimes, completing his tasks in less than 20 minutes! Room rating is 10/10. We ate in Luminae, Fine Cut Steak House, Rooftop Grill and Le Bistro with the Rooftop Grill being our favorite. I would rate it a "can't miss". I had a grilled filet that was my best meal of the week. DW had the Seafood kabob and said it was her favorite of the week. All food was served hot and seasoned very well. Food rating is 10/10. The entertainment was excellent. If you sail Ascent, do not miss "Here Comes the Sun" - a Beatles tribute band. They had the entire theatre on their feet for 50 minutes. Entertainment rating is 10/10 - I guess you are noticing a pattern here. Finally the service, short and sweet - a 10/10. I read many, many posts on this board prior to sailing. Now that I have experienced the cruise, I have to ask, "what does it take for some people to be satisfied??? I would be glad to answer any questions you might have about this ship.
  17. I've been trying to find the answer but have been have problems. I know what "Wi-Fi" means but I wasn't sure if it was literally "Wi-Fi" services vs an internet option. Can for example a laptop be connected, in your room, via a cable, hardwired? I doubt it due to the cost of that type of construction but, we are not sure. As far as signal, we will be on Ascent. Is it fairly strong for the deluxe option? Thanks in advance! and HOWDY!
  18. Booked last minute cruise on Ascent. Paperwork and App say late dining. Can we go to any of the dining rooms earlier or do we have to try to change once we board?
  19. Does anyone know how much a Day Pass to the Thermal Suite on the Ascent will cost? We would love to book a week pass but at $300 CAN pp, it is too expensive for two of us. I don't suppose it's possible to share a pass with someone, lol?
  20. We are going on the Ascent on 3/31, and I cannot seem to find anywhere a copy of the Daily Planner. I was interested in knowing if they have any themed evenings or formal nights. Helps with the packing you know? Any help would be appreciated. Thank you!
  21. My husband saw an advertisement for the Ascent that showed a seafood buffet night at the Oceanview Cafe. It pictured lovely fresh seafood towers. Is this a routine thing and if so, anyone know when it happens?
  22. We have a back-to-back lined up on the Ascent leaving New Years Eve. I know the watch boutique on the Edge and Apex were amazing. I’m assuming that the Ascent’s will be at least as good, but curious if any watch aficionados have had the chance to visit yet and can comment?
  23. Hi! This will be our first time cruising with Celebrity. Here are some of my questions… I am comparing it with the MSC yacht club. 1. tender priority: so the cruise will tender at santorini, I wonder if being in retreat gives you priority tender.. this is actually the main reason we will opt for Retreat, to get on the first tender boat so we have longer time to enjoy! For anyone who cruised to Santorini before, if you don’t book suite class, how long do you usually wait to get tendered to the port? 2. will the concierge book special dinning and escort you to the theatre? 3. Can we eat at blu and other main dining restaurant if we are just booking the most basic retreat suite? 4. Are there any specific area of the boat you’d avoid? We like quite rooms… 5. are there any unlimited or other specialty dining package available? What’s the price like? 6. is the wifi 2 per cabin or 2 per person? 7. are fresh squeezed juice and smoothie included or part of drinking package? thanks in advance!
  24. Trying to figure out the layout of the couch/bed on Ascent ships that have space for 3rd passenger Have not found a picture any help appreciated
