  1. Just got a "here is " new ports email from Royal via my travel agent changing 3 days on the 5 day Brilliance out of tampa in Feb and Mar 2020 as follows: WAS: "7 pm Key West Departure, 1 sea day, Cozumel" IS NOW: "5 pm Key West departure, Nassau 11-10 then Cococay 7-5" They only refund Cozumel shore excursions. Here is the whole email received today June 24 2019
  2. In my research for my cruise next year I stumbled upon some 7N NE/Canada cruises on Brilliance our of Boston in sept/oct 2020. I’ve never done a NE cruise, and am possibly considering it over a Bahamas itinerary for something different. Couple questions: 1) on my last cruise out of Southampton I found the food lacking compared to my previous cruises out of Baltimore & Fort Lauderdale. My thoughts were maybe this was due to the departure port. Specifically I found a lack of good seafood options. Would a cruise out of Boston going north have menus that reflect that region? Will there be more abundance of seafood options? On independence out of Southampton the only venue I could find scallops on the ship was in Izumi hibachi. 2) what are some overall opinions on radiance class ships? I’ve sailed on vision, freedom & oasis class. I liked the layout of grandeur (vision class). From some videos it seems like brilliance is an upgraded vision class ship, is that the overall feel? Much appreciated
  3. For dining as a solo on Brilliance, would you recommend requesting late traditional dining and requesting a shared table or booking MTD at a later time (based on tours) and asking for shared table then? Have a friend going, and they are hoping to meet other solo travelers and maybe eventually join a group for regular meals but to start do you think late traditional dining is better than choosing a MTD based on tours planned?
  4. Anyone know how many formal nights on the 12 night Baltics cruise? How about “theme” nights? ( other than the ubiquitous 70’s disco party)
  5. Hi Everyone, We’re currently aboard Brilliance and, having found these forums helpful, I thought I’d do a Semi-Live Blog as we make our way through the 12 night Baltic. It’s semi-Live as we don’t have an internet package, but I’ll try and space the days out...for dramatic effect and all that! Callum
  6. Hi guys, I will be going on a cruise with the Brilliance of the Seas and I would like to know any tips regarding complimentary food options. So you have the MDR and Windjammer, but do you also have certain spots for things like ice cream, pizza, hot dogs, snacks, pastries and those sort of things? Sometimes those things are complimentary on a cruise, but 'hidden' in a certain small bar, coffee corner or something like that. What (and where) is available on the Brilliance of the Seas regarding complimentary food options? Thank you!
  7. I just noticed this as available in my planner for our August Cruise. Probably was there before but did not notice. Price is cheap, and only found a few references to it doing a search of the forum and the most recent mention was from last year. It mentions it is in the MDR, but was hoping for a more intimate venue. I'm hoping that since this is during a Baltic cruise, am I safe to assume that some of the cheese and snacks served with the wines will originate from Europe, and not serve Velveeta and Cracker Barrel 😉 It is during a sea day. My wife and I already have the DBP and I guess I could get better wines at vintages, but just for the fun of it and since price is cheap, I thought we'd join in and meet other guests that also like wine. If this activity is just so-so or even just a bit worth it, I'm ok with that. But if you think it is totally useless and they only serve cheap cheese and corner store wines, then maybe we'll pass. Any thoughts? Thanks dp PS, We also booked for Chef's Table... my expectations are a bit higher for that event 😉
  8. Hi everybody, I just got home a couple of days ago from an excellent bucket list 12-day British Isles cruise aboard Brilliance: June 21 - Amsterdam June 22 - at sea June 23 - Edinburgh (Scotland) June 24 - Invergordon (Loch Ness) June 25 - at sea June 26 - Greenock (Glascow) June 27 - Dublin June 28 - Dublin June 29 - Holyhead (Wales) June 30 - at sea July 1 - St. Peter Port (Guernsey, Channel Islands) July 2 - Dover, England July 3 - Amsterdam Jetlag has been a little rough on me this time around, and I've had a super heavy work load on my return... besides sorting through a couple thousand photos and a few videos (nowhere close to being finished doing this!) and a wedding to go to Saturday, I haven't had time to start a review. Hopefully I'll start by Sunday or Monday. I hope you enjoy coming along for the ride! For now, here's a few teaser photos.... can you guess where they are?
  9. Anyone stay in Cabin 9222 on the Brilliance? Any info greatly appreciated
  10. Hi everyone! Welcome to my review of Brilliance of the Seas! This trip our itinerary is Cozumel and Grand Cayman, including 2 sea days. I am a 38 year old Emergency Room nurse from Cleveland, Ohio and I will be sailing with my 35 year old husband who works in the Film Library in the same hospital. This is our second time sailing this gorgeous ship, our first being March of 2015, where my husband proposed!! This will be our 4th cruise on Royal, having also sailed on Enchantment and Adventure. Thanks for following along!
  11. We are planning a 5 day cruise for our 20th wedding Anniversary next year. How formal is formal night? My husband will not dress up at all. He will wear black pants and a polo shirt. Is that acceptable? Is formal night mandatory? Will we get kicked out the main restaurant if we aren't dressed up?
  12. Currently cruising on Brilliance of the Sea and I have been a long time fan of RCCL. Our cabin has dust and dirt everywhere from prior cruisers. There no longer seems to be any kind of luxary to our room or the ship in general. Everywhere I look there is rust. It seems to have become a party boat as all I could hear were several passengers screaming and partying by the spa as well as our neighbors at 2am.....not to mention the heavy smoked air throughout the ship.....I convinced my friend of how amazing RCCL is and it is her 1st time cruising with them. We are both GREATLY disappointed!!!!
  13. Is there a functioning Diamond Club on the Brilliance? I have read that overcrowding has forced alternative arrangements-
  14. Anyone been on Brilliance of the Seas lately? Is the ship still "smoky"? Did they solve this problem? We can not go on a ship that smells of smoke everywhere. This is a deal breaker for us.
  15. Hello Royal Caribbean Blog members! My wife Corin and and I will be embarking on our first cruise which happens to be a TA. Go big or go home I guess. I will be doing a daily blog with a few photos and updates starting on the 4th. Stay tuned! *Crossposted on *****.com under CruisingWithMatt
  16. Hi Everyone, Any one interested to play Mah Jongg on sea days? Let me know and I will bring my set. diane
  17. What type of drinks are offered, and what times of day? Is there at least one single malt scotch :-) Similar question about hors d'oeuvres I know it's different on different classes of ship, I've found the info for newer ships but not for the Brilliance class. Thanks!
  18. On 5 night cruises, how many/when are formal nights? And the cafe in solarium, are there snacks on boarding day? If so, what type? Any specific tips for Brilliance?
  19. I'm looking at these 2 cabins. Anyone stay in either of them since last drydock (April 2018)? Wondering about noise or any other issues that I should know about. Thanks
  20. My husband and I are sailing Brilliance next April. It’s been about 4 years since we sailed with Royal and I was wondering are we able to carry on a 12 pack of Diet Cokes? We do plan to purchase the coke card also. We just like to have them readily available in our stateroom whenever we want one.
  21. Hi All- Going on Brilliance this weekend but just realized Game of Thrones in on Sunday. Anyone know where they may show this? It is on HBO. May just need to get the Zoom for 1 device and watch on HBO Now. Any ideas?
  22. Hi everyone! We've just booked an RCCL sailing after having sailed only on HAL for quite awhile. We've been on RCCL a few times, but it was many years ago and I'm sure most things have changed. I notice that our ship has a spa area which includes the thermal chairs, steam, sauna and a therapy pool as does HAL. Does RCCL offer a pass (for purchase) for access to this area for the length of the cruise? Thanks.
  23. Deck Plans show Jewel Deck 7, Starboard side as unobstructed stateroom cabins. We are currently on Jewel, and views from ashore also show no basic obstruction. Brilliance deck plans show just about all the staterooms on Deck 7, Starboard side as obstructed. I want to book a stateroom on Brilliance, 7592, and wondering just what is the obstruction? Anybody been on board and has personal knowledge of any or what the obstruction is? I know on some Celebrity ships the obstruction might be the top of a lifeboat davit. Jewel and Brilliance are the same class ships, so just wondering. If the obstruction is minor, I just might go ahead and book as I like the location and larger balcony on the bump out.
  24. Hi, This is my 1st post here so here goes. Is there a lot of cigarette smoke in the air on the Brilliance of the Seas? Considering going on a Canada-New England cruise in Oct 2020, but have allergic reaction to lots of smoke. Any help would be appreciated. 🛳️
  25. Is this an adults only place? What is the age limit here? Do we need to pay to go there? Are kids allowed in here at any time? Is this open 24/7?
