  1. Does anyone know if there is a Boleros lounge on the Explorer of the Seas. I can't seem to find it on the deck plans for that ship. Thank you for any help
  2. My daughter is crew on EX, got this text from her this am... Our dry dock was canceled as of last night. We will port in miami on the 15th - the 18th (in and out not over night) and for the remaining time we were supposed to be in france we will be floating around Freeport. Docking when it's free. Ship is hoping everything changes by may and we will sail to europe for cruises without enhancements
  3. On the the open decks, which side of the Explorer of the Seas can you smoke?
  4. Hello! Does anyone know if the EOS has had an upgrade?
  5. Hi - we have a group of 3 couples booked on a Feb 2021 cruise on Explorer. We have been told that the balconies can be opened to become one "long' balcony. Looking for confirmation that they can, indeed, be opened - OR if you know they cannot. Cabins are on deck 10 aft, but not the very back of the ship.
  6. Does anyone have any information about the redo of Explorer? I know it was put off from this May and we have a cruise scheduled for 2/12/21. If not do we have an option to switch our cruise to another ship?
  7. Hi Cruisers! Received this in an email from Royal Caribbean today: "We invite you to share a scenic sunset in Alaska this e‌v‌e‌n‌i‌ng — from the comfort of your home. Virtually transport yourself to the aft of Explorer of the Seas® and watch with us as the ‌s‌u‌n‌ dips below the mountaintops of The Last Frontier. Just visit the Royal Caribbean® Facebook page at ‌7‌:‌4‌5‌ ‌p‌.‌m‌. E‌S‌T ‌t‌o‌n‌i‌g‌ht." Don't miss it! ** May 22 Note: This video became available on May 20 and remains on the Facebook page to view whenever you'd like.
  8. We are booked on the Aug 30th sailing and hoping things are better by then. We are sailing with a 9 month old. We were told the ship is getting the Royal Tots nursery that will have babysitting if my wife and I decide to have a dinner by ourselves. The Drydock was cancelled and so the nursery seems to be on hold. I called RCL and they told me they will have alternate plans for the babysitting for the infants. Hopefully they will still have it for a few hours. If anyone has information about this I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks
  9. Has anyone heard when they are going to refurbish the Explorer?? Thank you.
  10. They were on the 80’s cruise charter that sailed from March 8th-15th.
  11. We're booked on the May 27 sailing on Explorer out of Rome. Somebody on our roll call just posted this from her daughter who is crew on the Explorer. Not sure what the plan is for our sailing however, we won't be on an Amped up ship if it does sail.
  12. Anyone who has recently been on the Explorer of the Seas, this question is for you. What is currently on Deck 11 forward of the solarium?
  13. Can the balcony partitions be opened on the Explorer?
  14. I know this is really far out but I’ve seen an ABC itinerary for Explorer leaving March 12, 2021 on a few different sites but it’s no where on Royal Caribbean’s site. Any ideas why? There are cruises before and after that date, it’s like that period is blocked out for EOTS. Possible charter pending? 🤔
  15. We booked this cruise in November and every once in awhile I take a look to check rates, available cabins, etc. The other day I noticed that all balconies on this cruise are sold out, and most ocean view cabins are sold. Most inside cabins also seem to be booked. And looks like half or more of the suites are booked. This seems very odd to me, this far out. I am on the RCCL Meet & Mingle thread for the cruise, and there are several individuals/small groups booked. So I'm wondering what the reason could be that the ship is so booked up this far out. Is it -- -- a RCCL theme cruise? -- a very large group that has many cabins either sold or held until a certain date? -- is it just a wonderful itinerary and good time of year to cruise? I called RCCL Crown & Anchor number the other day and had their recording about the new cancellation policy re coronavirus, and to expect longer than usual wait times to speak with someone, and they ask that if the call is about a cruise more than two weeks out, to call back later. So I'll call back later. I'm sure they are swamped dealing with questions of "right now." If any of you know why the Feb 12 cruise is so booked, I'd love to hear! Thanks.
  16. Does anyone know if the forward facing cabins on Explorer - 9502,9504, 9202,9204 are the same size? (I know the central ones are bigger because they are family cabins.) I am wondering if you lose square footage if you take the cabins on the end.
  17. Since I enjoy hearing what people have to say about their cruises, I thought I would give some quick feedback on our recent one. DH and I were on the Feb. 7 9 night sailing of the Explorer of the Seas and had a wonderful time. We were a little concerned after some recent reviews, but we were pleasantly pleased with how the cruise went. The ship is still in great shape getting ready to go into dry dock. The service was terrific and we both agreed that the food was very good. Main dining room was great the first night. We went there a few other times, but found we preferred the food in the Windjammer more. Desserts were very good and this was actually the first cruise ever that I have thought that. I do feel the main dining room is definitely more rushed. We were pretty much out of there in about 40 minutes at the most every time, while still taking our time to linger. It just feels rushed to us. Order everything at once and it all comes out one after the other. As soon as you put your fork down they bring you the next course. It kind of felt like they were watching to see how fast they could feed us.😀 They did offer the 10 drink card for $75 on day 4 I believe. We did take advantage of that. I also purchased the coffee card which if I have to be honest, could have been handled a little better. When you buy it, there was no mention of certain drinks counting as two drinks. Many people were taken aback by this. For instance, I ordered large cappuccino and they counted it as two drinks. If you are going to do that, post it somewhere or at least tell people. Last time on the Freedom, they did not count it as two drinks so this took me by surprise. Not a big deal, but still. We did find some of the entertainment lacking with blocks of time with nothing going on but a classical guitar player. She was extremely talented, but we thought another venue besides the Schooner bar would be better....maybe the R bar for example. She also played for like three hours straight every day which we felt was a bit much without anything else going on. Don’t get me wrong, she was terrific and talented, but whoever decides the entertainment schedule needs to do some re-working of things and add more. Also..I wish they would have more going on during the afternoons and evenings in Dizzy’s. It is a great spot, but totally under utilized. Some music and dancing around cocktail and dinner time would be great as an example. Best show is the ice show! Wonderful. We went to see it twice. Main theatre we were kind of underwhelmed and seemed to hear that from a lot of other people as well. Nothing against juggling, but that did not scream WOW to us for a final show. The 9 nights are awesome as are the long port days in Labadee and the ABC islands. We enjoyed that so much we may book the same thing for next year. Overall, it was a wonderful trip and I’m sure the Explorer will be even better after drydock. For anyone sailing the next couple weeks, I hope this helps put your mind at ease. It is a great ship and I hope you have a wonderful time too!
  18. Looking to book a Southern Caribbean for 2021. The two cruises that come up that meet what we are looking for is the NCL Breakaway and RCCL Explorer on the seas. They both sail out of Miami and do all but one port the same. Looking for personal opinion on which you would pick and why! We have sailed both cruise lines. We feel they both have goods and bads. But can not decide. Any help in selling one or the other would be appreciated. Quote Edit
  19. Grettings RC CC's, Here's a video we made that you might find entertaining. DW and I have racked up 18 cruises in the last 10 years including getting engaged on Carnival Glory and married on Celebrity Summit. We've been making cruises video recently and stumbled on footage from our very first cruise on Explorer of the Seas in 2010 that started it all. Here's the link below to the RCL video as well as our Viking, Oceania, Norwegian videos with more on the way. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v0JSZXzoNOA Please do subscribe if you like it! Enjoy!
  20. On Explorer now - currently day 8 of a 9 Day cruise. My fifth cruise with RC. This a not a full review, Just a couple of observations that have stuck out to us this time: 1. Service is exceptional. The crew in the dining room is our favorite so far, and everyone goes out of their way to please you. 2. Drink card was offered starting on day 4! That’s is the first time we’ve seen it offered so early. It was posted on the first page the the compass the night before (night 3). 3. The cruise compass has significantly shrunk. It is only 4 pages compared to the novels we used to get. For me, this has been a welcomed change. 😉 4. Unfortunately, what we read before cruising seems to be true. The food in the main dining room hasn’t been as good as all our other cruises with RC. Not sure what it is. A lot of dishes are over cooked and bland. Appetizers are pretty good and deserts have been ok, but main dishes are not what we have come to expect on RC. Windjammer has been good! 5. On the same note, the drinks are not great on this cruise. Many of us agree the drinks seem “watered down.” We have the drink package, so we have tried many things. Some bars are better than others. If you are getting drinks with a straight liquor cocktail, no fillers, drinks are good! Mixed drinks seem off. Our beloved mojitos and pina coladas on this cruise are not good. 6. Get up early if you want a chair, in the sun, in the solarium. They go fast. And, don’t leave your towel alone for too long. They are very diligent on the ship about chair hogs. We watched many people have all their belongings bagged and taken away if they were gone for more than 30 minutes. Again, we think this is a welcomed change. 😉 7. We haven’t done any shows or games, so I can’t comment on those. Hope this helps some people wondering about reviews they have seen leading up to their cruise. They were helpful to us before we left, so I wanted to share what we experienced.
  21. Down to fewer than 10 days before we cruise, so of course I'm thinking about the FOOD! I heard a podcaster mention the yummy smoothies available at the Vitality Spa on the bigger ships. Does anyone know if something like this can be found on Explorer? We have the Deluxe Drink Package, so I'm looking to get the most out of it, including beyond alcohol. Also, on less healthy note - are there donuts anywhere? Thanks! Fa
  22. Last minute packing review, and it occurred to me: am I going to freeze while watching the ice skating show? Like pack jeans and a jacket? Or will a light sweater over a cotton dress be ok? I know everyone has different levels of cold tolerance, so somewhat subjective. I rarely feel the need to wear a sweater on the ship in general though so didn’t think about it while I packed. thanks!
  23. Hello. We just arrived back from a sailing on the Explorer (1/24-2/2). Had a wonderful time. Must say the staff onboard was exceptional. Very friendly and went above and beyond to be pleasant and helpful. Have not seen this on a ship in quite a while. It was noticeable and impressive. Also thought they are doing a better job in the Windjammer for lunch. Lots of easy to eat foods, like burgers and nachos, but also had a few different items every day to make it interesting. And nice big salad bar. The one big negative that we found was that they did not open the Diamond Lounge in the evening out into the bar area. It was cramped in that little room and there seemed to be an attitude that RCL does not care about its top cruisers. We were sent a letter at the beginning of the cruise that there were 700+ Diamond and above that would be using the lounge and just to use our vouchers. As per usual, that did not go over very well. RCL knows they have a problem and just don't want to do anything about it. There is a second, minor negative. The Cruise Director, Mike Witte, was boring, grumpy and not very entertaining. He even chastised one of the contestants during the Love and Marriage Game Show. It is an ADULT themed event and he should expect that. He is way to sensitive! He seemed to be quite a drag the whole week. Other than that, the ship atmosphere was much better than Inde and Anthem, which we recently sailed. Overall fantastic cruise and reminded us of what it used to be like.
  24. Looking for main dining room menus leaving on 9 day cruise on the explorer- to ABC ISLANDS?
  25. Need some help. I'm putting together a group of 12 people. 9 adults. Most are veteran cruisers. 3 children. 8, 7, and 4 (first cruise for the kids). It looks like I have it down to Explorer (9 night) or Oasis (7 night). For me, nine nights is always better than 7, but the price goes up too. I've sailed oasis class so I know the pros and cons, but I have never sailed voyager class. Which would you select for the kids? Why? Which would you select for the adults? Why? tia
